I don't like it here. I drink too much, often times alone. I'm lazy and my work is garbage. I don't enjoy the classes, and it's all probably my own fault.
I have some friends, but they aren't the types that I will keep in close contact with after I get out of my dorm next year. I do not really have any friends back home.
I haven't talked to people who live directly beside me.
I'll have to declare a major next year. I have no idea what to choose. I do not enjoy academics. I can't into science or math but I also can't read anything that i'm not reading on my own accord. I got by with this in high school but it's not really passing anymore.
I have multiple assignments due in the coming weeks and all I feel like doing is curling up into a ball and dying.

no joke though, if you go into it banking on being a professor you're basically fucking yourself in the ass. it's kind of like saying "i'm going to be the president." it's possible but usually you want to be a lawyer and career politician first, spend like 30 years doing that, and then if you're lucky you fall into presidency. you can't just go "my job that i will try to get is president" and take President Studies.
but if you have a massive passion for the subject and more importantly a talent for original research, just:
1) get a bunch of languages down pat ASAP, they will make any graduate application look 10x more impressive
2) start talking to every single professor you have, in every course, and making it very clear that you want to prepare for grad school, that you are canvassing for intellectual mentors, intellectual, direction, and letters of recommendation
3) start mastering a field now so that you can make your application and research proposal look convincingly expert and cutting edge
4) make goddamn sure you get a perfect GPA, and start practicing to ace the GREs asap
5) depending how far along you are, start researching the process of applying right now, because it costs shitloads of money and takes tons of time and work to get all the documentation together
6) research where to apply, and ask professors and graduate students at your uni for advice. look at the placement rates for the programs (these are often posted publically) and the prestige of the institution, as well as your academic fit there.
7) the year before applying, get in touch with potential supervisors in the places you're applying to
this should apply to most humanities fields
above all be 100% sure that you are going to look qualitatively exceptional and you're good enough to go to a top 30~ university for your field. if aiming for professorship, be okay with being broke for years afterward, working like a slave with no security, etc.
