so there was no option for my extremely anti-BoS character to tell Danse to go fuck himself. I had no option but to walk away awkwardly mid-conversation. Everyone is immortal. Seriously, over half of the people I've tried to murder are inexplicably unkillable. I was trying to roleplay as a chaotic-neutral serial murderer, but I gave up when I realized most characters just can't die. FO4 is a mostly linear adventure game, much like Borderlands or Rage, as opposed to an RPG, like FO1, FO2, and FONV are.

Like I inferred all it takes is imagination and spending most of your time either doing exploration or side quests. Is it a perfect role playing game? Hell no. But that doesn't mean you can't use your imagination.

FO4 is as linear as FO3 and to a lesser extent FNV was, there's nothing stopping you from gunning down the railroad when you first meet them, or any other faction for that matter.

What you imagine isn't actually part of the game. I shouldn't have to imagine that my actions have an impact on those around me, and I shouldn't have to skip the main quest in an effort to roleplay. I agree that FO3 was quite linear, but FONV wasn't, as every quest had multiple methods of solution, and your methods lead to consequences that you would subsequently need to deal with, making every character's run unique based on how they would handle different situations. I'm playing on console, so immortal characters are going to stay that way. To that point, their is something stopping me from gunning down most factions: many members are inevitably immortal. For example, I shot Preston in the face the second I saw him, and he didn't even get aggro'd by it. His whole crew had the same reaction upon shooting them in their respective faces. The ability to commit random murder is crucial to most chaotic-neutral characters, and I do not have that ability. I don't think this is a bad game, but the RPG elements have been toned down to such an extent that I find it impossible to roleplay. It's still fun as a "go here and shoot that" game, but, as someone exclusively into RPGs, I was really disappointed with it.
