I have technical books. Both maunfacturer-written and third-party, the serious stuff used by professionals.
Sure, they work, but it might take you fifteen minutes to find out how to do something that Google could show you in thirty seconds. Besides, there's always the chance that it's glossed over or straight-up not covered.
On that note, there's also a lot of unofficial shortcuts and tips that a manual would never tell you, that online communities like the countless mechanics' and enthusiasts' boards will give. I'm not about to walk up to a biker dude on his Harley and ask him for tips on rewiring my '86 wheeler, but if he goes home and does a photoset on how he rewired his Jeep then he's basically sitting down and showing me how to do it step-by-step instead of calling me a faggot in the parking lot and driving off IRL.
