It's time for comfy

I'm always down for some comfy.
Pour yourself a nice cup of tea and chat about your feels
>>24472244
I feel quite numb lately. The only thing that manages to somewhat satisfy me is wrapping myself in a blanket in my bedroom and watching anime/movies/browsing 4chan. I'm less and less motivated to do stuff and it seems that the only lingering emotion I have is mild melancholia. Feels quite bad, man.
>>24472281
I'm there with you. Doing a shitty degree, stuck an a wagekek office job and perpetually disappointed by everything I look forward to.
Melancholia is a drag. Watch anything good lately?
>>24472316
Ever wonder if we could break out of this? Just seeing you and the other anon chatting about this reminded me. There used to be a time I didn't feel like this. Life used to be much more intense than this, so what happened?
What's stopping us from literally closing the browser and going outside?
>>24472316
>Doing a shitty degree
Yeah, me too. What's your major?
>perpetually disappointed by everything I look forward to
Man, it sucks. It's really hard, if not downright impossible, to actually find a path that corresponds to your expectations. Every option seems to lead to a dead-end, boring as shit life and "career".
>Watch anything good lately?
I really liked Mulholland Drive, very comfy neo-noir, surrealistic movie. If you're into anime you should try Kiki's Delivery Service too (most Ghibli movies are nice).
>>24472356
Of course you can. The only question is if you are brave enough to try again.
>>24472356
There was actually a thread yesterday about that. It ended with two anons just talking about philosophy while derailing from the original subject, but the OP post got me.
desustorage.org/r9k/thread/24421940/
>>24472382
Guess I must find a way to not slip into the comfort of my dark room again when shit hits the fan. It seems like it's extremely easy to just shut myself in and forget about everything.
But it's not the right path.
>>24472378
>Yeah, me too. What's your major?
Film. I know, I know. I'm surrounded by pretentious faggots who I mostly hate. On the plus side I get to see a lot of cool movies and the costs aren't as bad as other universities. What about you, anon?
>Man, it sucks.
Expectations play a huge role, you're right. We don't want to settle for the mundane, but we aren't rational enough to cast off our naivete.
>Mulholland Drive
David Lynch certainly is a trip. I haven't gotten into the whole anime thing, but I'll take a look.
If you liked Mulholland Drive, check out Maps to the Stars, Enemy, Under the Skin, and Sexy Beast. All good surrealistic films while still having roots in reality.
Dropped out and i am going back next year to do who knows what.
Anybody have any idea what a comfy degree would be? I'm so conflicted.
>>24472413
If you want some instant feel-better formula, buy some cheap weights and lift a bit. I bet robots on here have told you before that lifting does wonders for inactivity.
>>24472473
Depends what you're interested in. Comfy-ness will coincide with what you enjoy.
Also Waltz With Bashir was a cool movie (inb4 jews)
I submit the following gif I find to be comfy
>>24472454
>Film
That's pretty cool, man. If I weren't so introverted I probably would've studied that as well. Do you want to work in the movie industry?
I'm doing economics, it's soul-crushingly boring, but I'll finish the degree anyway.
Thinking about getting in the army afterwards, but I don't know if that's a good idea.
Well, as soon as you've "settled" for something, you've already lost, haven't you? The problem, I think, isn't that we're too naive, it's that everything around us exists only to make society go on. We can't afford to dream anymore.
>Maps to the Stars
Yeah, that was a great movie. From the same filmmaker, did you see Cosmopolis?
I'll take a look at the ones you recommended, thanks.
>>24472527
I hope he's got a lil rug or mat to put under his tooshie
>>24472517
Agreed. it was beautiful.
Well im tempted to go down the whole computer science path because computers are all i do really.
But i hear a lot of anons saying that it's not worth it.

I would love to, and still might someday, but it isn't what it once was. I've still got two years left so we will see.
>Army
I used to want to, now less so. I don't know whether I'd want to get in because nationalism, or because I'm just looking for a purpose.
>Settled
Maybe. Maybe there's some tranquility in settling, though.

>a small apartment high above the city streets

>small private detective business
A man can dream.
>>24472683
Heh, now that I've started my degree I told myself I'd finish it as quickly as possible, just to move on.
>it isn't what it once was
How so?
The army does provide you with a very simple purpose, which is nice. It also seems to be a good way to avoid routine, at least the desk job type of routine.
I meant "settling" as in, settling for something less than what you originally hoped for.
Yeah, Cosmopolis is nice. Quite similar to Maps to the Stars in terms of ambiance, although it focuses on the corporate elite rather than the dark side of Hollywood.
If you like surrealism, you should look into Jodorowsky (if you don't already know him). Some find his stuff tacky, I think it's very refreshing. His latest film, the Dance of Reality, was quite moving

super comfy Gif related.
>>24472700
Just general negativity towards it. saying that the job prospects arent what they are being made out to be.
>>24472796
It isn't how it once was in the way that it is much harder to make a living from it. In the 70s and 80s there was a great demand for trained personnel in film jobs. Now, not so much. I don't care about money THAT much, but even enough to get by just on a film job is hard.
It isn't so much the struggle that dissuades me, it's the people. So many are just self-righteous SJW types who can't bear to hear anything even mildly subversive from their way of thinking.
>>24472796
Oh, and yes, I have heard of Jodorowsky. He's great. You have some good taste, anon.
Which army would you join?
>>24472793
Fuck man I love Cyberpunk. You read Neuromancer? It's max comfy.

>that gaze
holy fuck
>>24472882
Well, I suppose it isn't far-fetched to assume that we'll see the advent of a cyberpunk world in our lifetimes, right?
>>24472852
I see. Is that the case even outside the US? As far as I know, the SJW movement is much less prevalent in Europe (except Sweden I suppose) than in America.
As for the money, I remember talking to a guy some time ago who worked on a film crew (not sure what he did exactly, though) and was always traveling around. He seemed to lead a decent lifestyle as well. Of course if you want to break into the Hollywood film industry, I suppose it's a whole other story.
>>24472879
Thanks. What filmmaker do you like the most?
>Which army
French. Although I'm definitely not sure if I'll do it, it just seems to be the only decent option I have.

>>24473023
I'm in Australia, which has an absolutely shit film industry. Like all universities, it seems, the SocJus movement infiltrates mine as well. I might move back to the states (I used to live there) to look for work, if it comes to that.
>What filmmaker do you like the most?
So many to choose from. I like John Carpenter, David Fincher, Johnathan Glazer, and Kurosawa to name a few. If there's one thing about Film school, it spoils you for choice.
What do you think of the French Foreign Legion? Seems like a cool detachment.
Mort garson - plantasia
>>24473091
Did you move to Australia simply for studying?
Have you looked into journalistic work in case you can't find anything in the movie industry? Reporting seems to be very interesting.
Fincher and Kurosawa are great. The latter made a movie called Dreams which I think is very underrated.
>French Foreign Legion
I actually haven't thought about it. Do you think it would be better to aim for the foreign legion rather than the "normal" army?
>>24473213
I was born in Australia, and had to move to the states for my dads work.
>Journalism
I used to want to do that. Might investigate again at some point. A hard industry, to be sure. Maybe harder than film.
There's a great documentary on YouTube about the French Foreign Legion. Talks about the great sense of camaraderie and pride that develops during training. Might be worth considering.
Anyway, Frenchbro, It's nearly 2AM here so I'm gonna crash. Hope to see you around here again and good luck for the future.
>>24473271
Alright then. Thanks, and good luck to you too. Hope you'll find something that makes you happy.
>>24472993
Ah man. Cyberpunk 2077. I stopped getting hopes for video games, as it always disappoints men.
>>24473085
Bladerunner was really unique. It had a tense and relaxing thing to it.
>>24473023
We are already living in a somewhat cyberpunk society. It's why cyberpunk is slowly dying, we've become it.
We as humans don't notice slow change, but as time passes we're more and more consumed by technology.
Hell, look around you right now. Everyone is on their smartphones, talking to their friends in another continent free of charge.
We're communicating online, you and me. This sort of technology was not even conceivable 200 years ago.
Shit, we live in a golden age without even realizing it. The entirety of human history we lived without all the technology we have today.
I can't feel sad when I understand this.
>>24473291
We're still a long way from GiTS or Deus Ex (just examples) in terms of technological integration and advancement, though.
I agree that we don't see changes happen, but we've just entered cyberpunk, if anything - we're in the early stages.
>tfw waking up before sunrise
>load up car in the twilight
>head down to the river
>surrounded by chilling air
>hot tea within reach
>cast out a line
>watch the sun rise over the trees
>listen to the forest slowly come to life
Damn I miss the South. Fuck Orange County
>>24473360
Oh for sure. We're at the onset of Cyberpunk.
Deus Ex is where we're headed to. We'll first gets augs for people with disabilities but as time passes we'll use augs to improve our abilities.
I wonder how we'll go through the moral dilemma of augs for improvement. I also wonder if the rejection of augs by the body will be as bad as in Deus Ex.
What do you lads thinks of augmentation for improvement?
>>24473091
I know that feel dude. i went that path in Australia too.
>>24473360
Do you think we have a chance of a cyberpunk lifestyle in our lifespans?
We already have incredible prosthetic limbs. and things like those new bionic eyes.
>>24473291
Indeed. Personally, Blade Runner is perhaps the best film I've ever seen. I just love the noir style. The immersion. The UNSPOKEN "dialogue", Films now a days explain every conflict verbally.
Completely different, but I very much liked The English Patient as well. Mostly for the same unspoken reasons
>>24473432
>the moral dilemma of augs for improvement
This is addressed pretty well in GiTS (1995). I think that we won't be able to stop it, even if there are protests concerning the moral ambiguity of augmentations.
>as bad as in Deus Ex
I don't think the market will be as opaque and shady, pretty sure corporations will have to maintain some level of transparency and ethics, even if it eventually degrades. I'm sure that the augmentations market will be safe at first, and probably not very intrusive. Then it'll certainly go downhill, especially if we ever reach a point where a human body can be completely replaced by mechanical and electronic components.
I'm wondering how augmentations are going to be made available, though; will you have to choose from big multinationals and compromise your privacy at the expense of physical improvement? Will you be able to buy parts from second-hand/black market sellers? Will augmentations be deeply linked to networks or will you still be able to be "off the grid"?
>>24473517
I'm sure we'll reach a point where augmentations are commonplace. I don't know if we'll ever see similar technology to what is depicted in famous cyberpunk movies in our lifetimes, though.

Here is one of my favorite videos, and one of my comfiest. I have no clue who this man is, but it seems deeply personal and his song is relaxing. Part of me wishes I could do something similar, or have a similar experience of sitting with friends late at night (perhaps while a little tipsy) and just being happy in each other's company. When it pans arounds to his friends and family, it tears at my heart. I've rarely seen a more innocent evening. Maybe one of you guys will enjoy it as well.

I could listen to this song on repeat all day. Somehow it captures my feelings of inadequacy and crushing loneliness, especially from 8 minutes onward. No one wants to talk to me, but I also don't want to talk to anyone. I don't want to get burned again. I fear I'll be living with this avoidant personality disorder for the rest of my life. I've lost the will to live completely, but I still fear death. I merely persist in distracting myself until I live to see another day. At least I'll exactly know what to expect from it.
