tbqh i really dont care for it. played for about 10-12 hours, and it feels like a fps like far cry or something. the levelup system is gay, the ghouls look gay, the dialogue wheel is gay, the voiced character is gay, the "desperate dad looking for babby" thing is gay, the crafting system is cumbersome and gay, the tiny map is gay, it's all gay

There are some good side quests, but it's no New Vegas. I've played both of the original Fallouts and still think New Vegas is the gold standard. I do like the level up system. It is more organized and in line with Skyrims. Skills are replaced with more perks. There is a perk for ever SPECIAL attribute and every level over 3. Each perk has different ranks. There are a load of ways to make a different character. It's not just a FPS. I don't even use guns on my character. Just bash them with a sledge hammer.

I agree with you, NV felt pretty empty and uninspired. Not that Fallout 3 wasn't, but at least you had the DC ruins to explore when the wasteland got boring. The "city" of New Vegas was like the biggest anticlimax ever compared to that.

I knew it was going to be a bad game when I shot Preston Garvey and he just fell over. Remember how in New Vegas you could kill literally every single character you meet and still complete the story? The Yes Man enters a new body so that you can still get his ending, but everyone else is fair game. Fallout 4 on the other hand railroads and hand-holds you through their "super cinematic" story. Fuck that, let me beat my wife to death at the start of the game and slaughter my way to Vault 111. Fallout New Vegas is literally god tier compared to the utter trash of Fallout 4.

Fallout 3 is definitely the weakest of the three most recent games. New Vegas took a lot of really great directions for the game, and implemented them the best and really maximized the engine. Fallout 4 has taken the lessons learned from New Vegas and really given a great experience.
The perks system you mentioned was a huge improvement. They extrapolated that by getting rid of the boring skill munchers for more perks. There are still the number crunching power gamer perks for those who want them, but in a way that doesn't interrupt those who don't.
The FPS aspect is far superior in F4, to such a degree that it's going to be hard for me to go back and play the others.
What I think is some people are missing is that Bethesda didn't just create a game, they created an engine. While it hasn't been released yet, and we'll have to see how good it is when it comes out, they have announced mod tools, like they do with their other games. Mods give you the complete, customized experience that will really allow you to play this game to the fullest.
So yeah, Bethesda took some short cuts on Fallout 4. Some of them are a little cumbersome, like the weak and poorly balanced Workshop System. (although it is amazing that it is implemented into the main game, and is by far my favorite aspect of F4).
Still, I think it is the strongest game in the series, although I'm caught between that and Witcher 3 for my favorite game of 2015.

I'll have to agree with you on some of that, for instance, the combat in fallout 4 doesn't seem like fallout. The clunkiness was a part of the fallout experience. The dialogue system is really shitty. And that Fallout 3 was definitely better than NV.
But the thing about 4 is it shares a lot in common with 3, which is why most people don't like it.
For one, it shares the dark, depressing atmosphere that made me fall in love with 3 instead of the populated desert that NV had.
It also re-introduces small groups of raiders, instead of tribes, which is great because it seems like you are in an actual wasteland and not the wild west.
There also isn't a huge ass populated city, like in New Vegas. Instead, its has Diamond city, which is like Megaton or Rivet city, and a few small settlements sprinkled around the map, with no allegiance to anyone but themselves (aside from the minutemen), so you don't feel dwarfed by the size of these massive factions.
4 also has a nice big city for you to loot, which New Vegas deprived us of. Hell, New Vegas didn't have shit to loot compared to 3.
The technology in 4 is also reasonable. Alot of the Technology in New Vegas I thought was pretty lame because it seemed too advanced for the area. But because I live near Boston, I can tell you that the whole city is basically one big university. You have Harvard, MIT, and many other prestigious colleges, so it makes sense that all this advanced tech would be made up here instead of in the middle of the desert near a bunch of casinos.
4 also has vaults to loot. New Vegas barely had any.
And finally, the map may be small, but it is still twice the size of the Capital Wasteland. And the New Vegas map is only larger because it is a big, open, boring desert, with hardly anything in it, just like real life, while fallout 4 has a much denser map.
