Most of the advanced sciences that are studied today, such as complex analysis, is vain knowledge. Things that will not serve much purpose in the extreme long run since the real problems are rarely addressed or done so haphazardly.
The same goes for regular conversation most of the time. That most of the words said have no real bearing of significance like what they saw on T.V. If you try to bring up real topics concerning theology or philosophy, or perhaps the current economics affairs of the world, you're seen as strange. Even trying to give them good words of encouragement is sometimes viewed as strange because I don't consider those to be wasted words.
