One theory say you should put the gun in your mouth and aim up and slightly back, to try to hit the brainstem / medula oblongata. The other theory says that you should shoot yourself in the temple or behind the ear to try to destroy both hemispheres of your brain.
I don't think I'd use a shot gun, personally. It seems unwieldy and easy to fuck up. My choice would be a .40 / .45 / .357 hollowpoint. I think I'd tape my nose and mouth shut with heavy tape and then shoot myself in the side of the head - that way, you either die instantly / fall unconscious / paralyzed and suffocate, or just shoot again.
