Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight
Sideways
My Dinner with Andre
Peppermint Candy.
It perfectly shows what it's like seeing your life completely fall apart and the feeling of wanting to go back to a better time.

Another good /r9k/ Korean film is Hello Ghost. It looks like a Comedy movie at first, but gets really good. I definitely recommend it.
A Tale of Two Sisters is also an amazing Korean horror film. Oldboy is probably the most loved Korean film, but avoid the shitty American remake.
As far as Chinese films go, I mostly just know about comedy movies. Any Stephen Chow movie is great, Kung Fu Hustle, The God of Cookery, Shaolin Soccer, From Beijing With Love, Sixty Million Dollar Man, and Journey to the West should definitely be checked out.
If you like those films, I recommend watching all of his movies. A lot of them can be found on Youtube.
As far as sad movies go, To Live is a really great film.

It's basically about a Korean robot

Memories of Murder is one of the greatest crime thrillers ever
>>24413585
Forgot to add Tricky Brain to the list of Stephen Chow movies, not to be confused with The Tricky Master.
Watch Ben X
It's the embodiment of /r9k/, and a really good movie as well.

Thanks bro, you have cool taste.
Have you seen any Kar Wong-Wai films? They're romance (ree) but focus on urban melancholy and isolation. Also they're filmed really beautifully. Chungking Express is his best imo
don't mute me brobot

I saw the Devil
Yellow Sea
The Chaser
All really good Korean films
>>24413688
Yep, Chungking Express is phenomenal. He captures city life so well. In the Mood for Love is great, too.

love the guy's stuff. got turned onto him from the music video he did for DJ Shadow - "Six Days"
Someone reccommend to me good films that don't have any romance or sex scenes
I'm sick of pleb trash that panders to muh feels by just exploiting hackneyed romantic relationships for the nth time
There's a reason why 2001 is argued to be the greatest film of all time, because there was no pointless romance subplot

wong kar wai you idiot

what was that look the dad gave when he was watching him?
i always felt it was more of worry rather than amazed

Yeah, I love most things by Linklater. My favorite of the three is Sunset for similar reasons you mentioned. Also just feels like the writing is the strongest and the most down-to-earth. Sunrise has a bunch of wishy-washy "true love" bullshit (which to be fair I still enjoy in context) and Midnight is a stage I haven't reached in life yet.
Supposedly Criterion was supposed to make a bundle for the trilogy, but I don't know where that stands. Hopefully soon.

Only korean movie I know about a guy trying to solve a case is The Chaser but that's about a pimp trying to find out what happened to one of his whores after she was captured by a serial killer
>>24413739
Also Confession of Murder

I've seen some of the ridiculous action scenes, though I have yet to check it out. can see why T would like it
Speaking of action, have you guys seen The Raid? the choreography is kickass and the fights are incredibly well done, I like it even if the plot and characters are cardboard and I'm not a fan of ultraviolence
Who /documentary/ here?
This one right here... fuck.
Also, The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On
Don't remember the scene really, but I cried my eyes out at this one scene in this movie .
I think it involved Johnny Cash and his wife, and her family at his farm after he ODs or gets out of jail or something and just busts out crying because they're their for him and he feels just so broken.
