Suffering. Radical unforeseen traumatic change in a man's life. My entire view of the world was permanently altered when my doctor carelessly threw me into opiate/ benzo withdrawal. I used to believe the world was a fair and good place by default, that things were handed to me just because. Now I understand that things can only become that way if you fight for them. My life changed when my mind was altered against my will, and I was forced into withdrawal. I realized that nowhere is safe and that nothing is sacred; that to live a happy and fulfilling life, you must fight and give the world no other choice but for things to turn out that way. If I wasn't able to do that I would have died a long time ago.
