I've definitely done that as well but I've found that I generally don't want to drink regardless earlier in the day or if I'm really on the fence I can pop one in later and seal the deal.
Its not ideal but its the best I have to work with.

I'm sure they know I'm deliberately avoiding them, and I know the topic of conversation is probably how much of a selfish asshole I am for not showing up to talk about trite garbage, but I'm happier this way
