nah m8 i had a much better time with 3 than new vegas. new vegas may be superior with the combat mechanics/guns and factions, but i still preferred 3 and had many, many more hours into it. it just captured my interest a lot more. nv is just a big boring desert with le cowboys xd, but i thought the capital wastland was cool as fuck

Man FallOut did not age very well graphically.
3 was pretty bad but I liked being able to explore the metro tunnels in DC because I actual ride those everyday, that said they got a lot of stuff about DC and the surrounding area wrong.

You can start anywhere you want, the games aren't really connected in any way apart from being in the same world, and the lore is just sort of out there.
I'd recommend New Vegas the most, but a lot of people started with 3, so you might just want to do that and go chronologically, if you don't want to play the first 2.
3 also has a really, horror-like atmosphere, it really feels post-apocalyptic, whereas New Vegas feels more 'alive'. I'd say go for Vegas if you want the full Fallout experience with factions and a wealth of RPG elements, and 3 if you want a more survival horror type game.
I haven't played much of Fallout 4 but it's made by the same people who made 3 and so far it feels quite similar, I'd say it's definitely not worth paying $50 or whatever for imo, so you might want to either wait or get a pirated version.
I liked 3, hated new Vegas, 4 is decent. Beat it on normal after doing tons of side shit - replaying on survival now.
