I have friends that I've made online that I still talk to years later, but conversation with them is never forced or uncomfortable. For the majority of people that I've met online, though, it's been extremely awkward after a few times talking to them (not their fault, I take full responsibility) and I disappear to avoid making things any more uncomfortable than they already are.
