So you spend years waiting for this thing that you love, the only thing that loves you, to die. And not only die, but odds are you are the one that has to take it to be put to sleep. i had dogs growing up, but i can't bring myself to get a pet. if i ever were to get one, even something like a turtle or a fish, i'd feel like shit whenever i couldn't be with it. also, i'd feel bad picking out a pet, cause it's like i'd be rating all these animals and saying only one is good enough for me, which would make them and me feel bad.

I think you're exaggerating or I have a poor memory.
a lot of people choose dogs by the looks or by what dog is "cool" and thats retarded. you should adopt a dog by its breed's typical personality. then you can choose the pup that has the fine tuned personality that you want. if you arent an active person, then you should get a less active dog breed, like a great dane. big dogs tend to be lazy. then, if def want a chilled out great dane, go for the pup that is subdued and not hyper. hyper is cute when theyre young, but a boisterous dog isnt fun if your laid back. also, test the pup for anxiety, trust and calmness by holding/balancing it on the palms of your hands with it on its back. if it squirms a lot or straight hops off, pass. it should just lay there with little to no squirming.
this would all be true if a dog, in general, fits your personality. some people just arent dog people and might be better off with a gold fish.

Pet ownership has risen dramatically, spending on pet products has risen even faster. It's a recent thing that people see their pets as part of the family and spoil them. My dog's 4, a botched vaccine has left him prone to violent seizures. We've tried various medications but things aren't looking good for the little guy.
