Your odds of being a meaningful influential philosopher are far smaller even than your odds of being a professional sportsman, and the debates and arguments put forwards in theology beyond the introductory subjects are of absolutely no interest to the average believer.
In no way does anything you do or train for better society and it has essentially no direct vocational prospects, so they don't even contribute to providing for your family.
