I know a guy who played sax all through grade/high school and switched to piano and is able to read anything at sight. So I think some people can do it.

the only thing he would have to learn is bass clef, and if you understand treble clef from years of playing sax it's not too difficult to learn, basically it's just switching notes around on the staff
