This faggot put $15,000 into climbing everest, and is ignoring the fact that so many people much more experienced than him have died in its death zone, he was at the time 210lbs and is presumed to be training currently

What do you robots think are his chances?
>>
>I will succeed, and I'll come back here afterwards and post a picture of myself standing atop the summit of Everest, not to rub it in or anything, but to prove that anything is possible, even when everyone is betting against you.

dont most people die on the way down?

I hope he takes you along so you both die

Yes, but this fag will probably die going up before he can even summit
>>
Does anyone else here think climbing Everest is one of the most retarded things you can do?
>>
>>24333711
I just want to know what you guys think his chances are
>>

What a cunt. That's not inspirational at all. That's saying "Hey, I dropped $15k to make this possible. Anything is possible with money"

I'd like to see that cunt make it possible without the investment.

The fatality rate on Everest is ridiculously low. I'm not a mountaineer, but I have done a bit of reading on the difficulty of the world's various high summits. The impression I've gotten is that Mt. Everest is something which rich people with relatively little climbing experience can do, provided they hire the right guide and take things slowly.

I'd love to climb a big mountain like Everest some day, but I don't think you're accomplishing much when you're inexperienced and haven't conquered any truly difficult summits like K2, Annapurna, or Nanga Parbat. People who do the world's highest peak without having demonstrated any prior accomplishments are just throwing money at an adventure any rich, reasonably in-shape person could likely accomplish.

N-nn-no
>>
>>24333796
This.
It's not the 1920s anymore
>>
>>24333796
All the apparent mountain climbers are saying that ops guide isnt good and that it costs a lot more than 15k to be dragged up the mountain.
>>
>>24333796
But 15k is not nearly enough money for them to send Sherpas to drag you up
>>
>>24333744
yes.

It's the equivalent to disneyland for people in midlife crisis
>>
>>24333839
How much do Sherpas cost? Don't they literally heat their homes by burning hardened yak shit?
>>
>>24333865

It costs a lot, so far as I'm aware. I think the permits to climb Everest cost thousands of dollars alone.
>>
>>24333865
aww, poor guy. did sherpas steal your dinner to heat their homes with?
>>
>>24333865
It's not the sherpas themselves, it's the companies that charge for their services. Sherpas are paid shit compared to what the guy who owns the company gets.

But to answer the question, you have to shill out 55k-85k to get a sherpa
>>
>>24333908
It's a valid question. Mexicans cost nothing and they don't burn animal shit to keep their homes warm. It's tough to imagine hiring Sherpas to cost that much

How the hell do you drown on a mountain?
>>
>>24334052
In water
>>
>>24334063
Yeah but you have got to admit, that's the shittiest way to die, on Everest of all places, go out by avalanche would be much cooler
>>
did he actually drown in water or was it pulmonary edema? high altitude sickness is a thing
>>
>>24334142
naw he literally fell into some melted glacier water and drowned

>>
>>24334390
not to mention normal people who dont have hundreds of thousands to blow have to climb it 3 times in order to get all the gear up that you need to survive

They actually use all the dead bodies on the mountain as waypoint markers, most bodies are not recoverable

>David Sharp was another mountaineer, thought to be a bit inexperienced for the Everest trek. He stopped inside Green Boots cave to take a rest. But he stayed a little too long and found himself frozen. Later, a group of travelers passed by him, thinking him to be dead. It wasn't until one of the climbers saw him breath and whisper "help me" that they realized he was alive.

>But it was too late. David Sharp couldn't be moved or saved. They had to leave him there to die, as they were on limited time as well. This is a picture taken of him by the group. [cannot confirm if he is dead or alive in this pic]

Jesus Christ

As my EMT professor said, it's possible to drown in a bowl of soup.

All that's necessary for drowning is that your face be submerged and for you to not be able to get out.
>>
So what are his chances guise?

>Francys was climbing with her husband in 1998 when they became separated. They attempted to search for each other, but were unable to reunite. Two climbers found Francys while she was still alive. She begged them to not leave her, but they could not stay. Francys and her husband Sergei both died on the mountain. (He was found a year later. Apparently, he died after a fall)

>The two climbers were so overcome with guilt over having left Francys that they vowed to return to Everest to give her a more dignified resting place. The were able to return in 2007, 9 years after her passing. She was wrapped in an American flag, and pushed out of view of other climbers. Francys was the first American woman to summit Mt. Everest without the use of bottled oxygen.

Mixed feels. All these people risking their lives for glory, not realizing their legacy will infact be eternal.
>>
>>24335708
Well as a final resting place or suicide point Everest is as good as it gets, especially if you're a mountain climber.
>>
>>24333663
>>24333663
Mt. Everest is overrated as fuck, as far as I heard it's not a big deal.
Sherpas climb it while carrying people's shit constantly.
If you want a suicide tour, go for something like the K2.

You can probably do it after a couple months practice in the alps during winter or something.
>>
>>24335796
>as far as I heard it's not a big deal.
nigga just because a handgun isn't as dangerous as an assault rifle doesn't mean a handgun isn't dangerous
>>
Some mountains like K2, I believe have never been climbed in the winter

Some mad fucker has to do it, right?
ITS 2015 PEOPLE
>>
>>24335796
Yeah but this guy was 210lbs when he wrote that, I don't think that the guy could drop off that much weight so fast, his body's VO2 levels are probably very low, meaning he can't get as much oxygen to his cells as say another fit climber can
