Any sampler/b/ros here?
Audio related I recorded just now
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0seqf8cmELg
Trying to get into sampling and not sure if on the right track. Feedback and tips much appreciated
>>
I've had a sp505 for 2 years, but it's a pain in the ass to use and it sounds like shit.
>>
>>24325734
That's not bad.
>>
>>24325734
no offense but it's a pretty bland beat

The "jazzy" style is nice though. But the track could use more sounds to keep it interesting

check out artists like Ta-ku, Flying Lotus, Nujabes, J Dilla, Clams Casino etc and get some ideas

I prefer working with voice samples and then toying with old recordings and synth arps etc
>>
Trap beat producer here
>>
Why does the sampler in OP look like it's from 1975, don't they have software based daws with 30 times the complexity and functions now?
>>
>>24326544
It's a 1990s 16-bit model mpc
People like it because it sounds bitcrushed and lofi
It has a certain charm to it

I was just reading up on it and it seems the physical daws have speed and pressure sensitivity built into the buttons which I assume you probably don't see with keyboard based software daws.

>im spending more time learning theory and sound design than making music honestly at the moment

Is this self study or coursework? Because I can't imagine someone studing music theory by themselves unless they had incredible passion for the art and science of.

I have schizophrenia and the only thing I can enjoy is music related shit and weed

everything else makes me want to just kill myself honestly

I get such a nujabes vibe from this, do you have a soundcloud or something?
>>
>>24326676
Yes but it's full of joke songs and I more than likely won't upload anything serious until a few months from now when I get around to make serious stuff

Computer software does have velocity/pressure/aftertouch capability. It's more based on whether or not the controller you have has those functions. Pressing a pad and hitting a key are essentially the same thing to the computer/

Cubase has vst expression where you can acess those parameters like after touch and modulation footpedal

in ableton you need to use the clip envelope in the midi track and you will see the controller parameters after touch is called channel pressure in ableotn tho

>>
>>24326664

Ahh so you enjoy it. Have you considered taking up programming too? Perhaps you'd be able to channel your knowledge of music theory and programming into some pretty complex creative endeavours.

>>24326740

Yeah but I don't think regular keyboards are made to sense and transmit the same subtle measuerments of force and pressure that a piano is supposed to pick up and relay to the rest of the mechanism. Surely they must have special keyboards for software daws that just plug in via USB?
>>
>>24326839
I have this shit in ableton live called max4live it is a visual programming language but you can only make for using in live unless you buy the full version max 7 to make standalone application
>>
>>24325734

terribly generic and bland beat
>>
I make a lot of music but I'm usually embarrassed by it since they're vidya remixes.

OP I like your song, keep it up.

Heh, tell that to saito and countless others...dabrye, prefuse, dimlite.

>>24325734

It's alright man, the shaker/ hat isn't great. There is no swing.
But the samples are ok and it's a good start.
>>
>>24327068
Also what kind of sampler and how are you bouncing it from the sampler to the pc?

>love my 404
>>
>>24327691
An MPC2000 I got from a friend and a 20$ behringer interface
>>
>>24327049
Video game remixes are where the cash is at, there is this one dude on youtube who has like $10k+ in gear and all he makes is video game covers.
>>
>>24327707
Awesome....definitely fuck with the swing more man how long have you been working with the mpc?

From the interface do you record in ableton, fl, audacity?
>>
>>24327777
About 3 weeks. I've had it forever but just decided to do something with it
I use audacity but I don't use it for much besides recording onto it

Your drums sound a little off beat. Youre either using a metronome and trying to hit it right at the beat or arent using one and just dont have that rhythm on you. You gotta feel the beat so the drums can have some swing to it. Other than that it sounds alright, just keep practicing man.

Try ableton unless you want to stick with hardware only (some people are into that...and mpc2k is super powerful on its own).

You can record each part of your beat (kicks, samples, hats) on an individual track, add reverb / compression / whatever - a lot of people I know do it this way (eg https://soundcloud.com/b_z_k_t)..Also gives you the option to use synth vsts which is fun..

Or just record the entire beat straight out of the mpc like you do with audacity..teebs does it this way if he's not using fl studio.

Either way pretty solid for three weeks man, that mpc is a gift put it to good use <3

>>24325734
meh...needs more of something. Definitely needs a bassline or some harder hitting drums. Try to go somewhere with your chops, make something that stands out and is memorable, even if it's repetitive. Ask yourself "are niggaz in tha streets gonna fuck wit it?" If you are just starting out then I guess you are on the right track. Just make more, listen to tracks you like and see what makes them so good.

Anyway here's my latest foray into beatmaking.
https://clyp.it/x4qrpx44

Was going to stretch it out into something bigger but you know what? I like it at the short length it is, doesn't need to be much longer. Maybe I'll mix it properly, maybe.

This is where I want to be but I don't know how to get there
Where do all these great usable sounds come from anyone?
I'm in an awkward stage where I can't find anything yet
Maybe it's just me not being able to use sounds to my ability though. I've been sticking around looking through old movies soundtracks and jazz albums but not much of what I want is found

Here man...40gb of drums...trust me.
All old vinyl samples.

Also check these two channels out.....you have to develop an ear for good samples. It also comes down to knowing how to cut / warp / pitch the samples right.

Yeah, I got a maschine mikro mk2 on a whim last month, been nothing but good times and fun since. It's annoying to set up in reason but the DAW it comes with is pretty good in itself

https://soundcloud.com/c-le-m/deep-trumpets
most recent track, I know that the drums need sharpening and that some more hi-hats wouldn't do any harm but has anyone got feedback beyond that?
>>
>>24328004
Just keep doing it dude. Don't get attatched to any one beat you make. Most of them will suck. Most of mine suck. What gear are you using?

If you don't have one already, get a DAW. That's something you'll always need as long as you are doing anything with music.
>>
i borrowed a microkorg from a friend but i have never made any music whatsoever and do not know how to use it. wat do?

that's pretty cool btw op! especially for a beginner
>>
>>24325734
Like someone else said: it's a horribly generic beat with no substance to it.
>>
>>24328158
Hell yeah. Maschine is the shit. I went that route too. I since picked up a used larger controller for 100 bucks (which brings the total to 449, still cheaper than buying the full maschine brand new would have been) and it made my workflow 100 times easier. Those extra knobs make trimming samples way faster
>>
>>24328165
Get a demo for a DAW (digital audio workstation) like Ableton, Reason or Fruityloops and just have a mess around with the midi controller plugged in. Youtube tutorials are a massive help as well as knowing a tiny bit about music theory!
>>
>>24328158
Needs some bass, it amazing what it can do for a song.

Also, I can't put my finger on it and don't know the words for it, but you might want to try mastering it again.
>>
>>24328186
The larger controller looks a ton better and I could have got it for like 100 more which isn't too bad (I paid 160 for the mikro). Would you recommend selling the mikro and getting the full size one when I progress a bit more?

Just the mikro alone has got me listening out for better samples, mastering them and editing the pitch and EQ. There's just so much to do it's amazing
>>
>>24328204
What sort of bass sound would you reccomend? I've always had trouble making it sound smooth and match the samples I use
>>
>>24327064
black people shouldn't exist to do anything other than serve the noble white man
>>
>>24328190
I have Ableton but I don't think I can connect the Korg to my PC without a seperate audio interface.. :c
>>
>>24325734

I have an MPC 2000, but I almost use it more for sequencing synths than sampling. It's a really great sequencer.
>>
>>24327864

Do you even quantize bro?
