Republican governors are pretty common in blue states. They have to govern like moderates tho, Mitt Romney was the governor of Massachusetts too.
the governors who state they aren't going to accept refugees are bluffing for the polls. they have no authority to make such a decision. its a moot point anyway because the US has managed to admit about 2000 due to bureaucratic incompetence. any part of any current or future coalition against ISIS will have to admit some refugees (see somalia, bosnia) since it will be impossible to conclude the war with millions of people languishing in camps.
if you are so terrified of being murdered by syrian for whatever reason (for some reason considered much worse than the 1,000,000x more likely scenario of being murdered by your neighbor) pressure your government to remove any pre-condition of the removal of bashar assad and tell them to stop selling weapons to saudi arabia (2 billion dollar deal today).
