Childhood plays a big part in it, I guess. I was pressured into eating often so that I would "grow up big and strong" and we had no meal times at all. Potato chips and junk food was commonplace when watching TV and now I have hard time watching TV without stuffing my face. Even when I was visibly overweight as a teenager, I was constantly asked if I had remembered to eat enough.

Now I'm in my mid-twenties and struggle with my weight all the time. Used to be obese, dropped to thin level and now fattened back up because my better looks resulted in about zero net benefit overall. Read a lot about nutrition when I was exercising a lot some years back and lost over 80lbs in a year, so I'm not clueless. Deeply ingrained habits are just sometimes hard to fight for extended periods of time without external support.

Me. 18, a manlet (5'7) and fat at 215 and like 25% or more bodyfat. If i could bring myself to cut i could probably look damned good around 170 lbs but im scared to lose the gains that i made lifting, and i think i hated being weak and skinny even more than i hate being fat. 500 cal defecit is too slow, plus it's too easy to overeat when you are eating, I would rather simply avoid the temptation to eat entirely, like quitting cigarettes. No. Not really. You count your calories and *that* isn't hard. For the uninitiated, download myfitnesspal and it'll calculate your macros. Plug in everything you want to eat into it and if you're eating stupid, it'll tell you as much.

Just because some idiot attempted an insane stunt like that and managed to pull it off, does not mean it's advisable in any way for you to do it as well. Go to the gym and lift some weights, get some cardio in, and eat at a 500 deficit. You will get results. Muscle will help burn fat, additionally. Don't do something stupid that's unsustainable that you'll inevitably bounce back from (and gain even more weight during the rebound). Don't be stupid. If you want to do this, do it right.

Same here. Last year I began going out for an hour long walk each day. Lost 15 lbs in barely a couple months.
Afterwards I got depressed again and couldn't bring myself to go out much so I regained most of the weight.
I wish I could force myself out again, but i just can't do it for some reason.

I'm back down to 160 now but holy god almighty is it hard to control your appetite after you get fat. Even today I have the appetite of a fat ass. Your brain adjusts to being fat and that isn't something that ever seems to go away. So I feel sympathy for fatties who have lapses in discipline. It's one of the hardest mental challenges a person can face.

Hey. >>24314015 here. Funny you say that, as I had quit tennis due to emotional baggage and picked up bad habits leading me to get to 210 at 5'10. I got on /fit/ half a year ago after /soc/ slammed me in a rate me thread for being fat and I'm down to 158. So. We're sort of living the same life.

The appitite was very hard for me for about... a good month and a half to two months. I quit the junk (soda/chips/candy/etc.) cold turkey and weaned myself into healthier meals, but the withdrawal and cravings were ridiculous. But working hard at the gym and eating away your gains is so fucking awful, that overcame the urges for me more than anything. To work that hard at the gym just to lose it all... was too awful to bare. Although I'd say the urges are much more manageable now at 158. It is a mental challenge. But anything worth having never comes easy. If this was easy, every fat person would lose the weight. This is a test of character, of discipline and of resolve to see things through. It's taking charge of your life instead of letting your carnal urges control you. Getting your life back. Becoming the person you dream of being through sheer determination.

Fellow food addict here, I found intermittent fasting helped me break me addiction to food. You don't need to do the specific things they say to do, just avoid eating for the first 16 hours after you go to bed. By that time even if you binge for the rest of the day you won't actually be able to eat very much. This helped me break away from my addiction and get used to eating less in a day. Now I eat normally but I'm much better at having self control.

I'm sorry, but that is absolutely not my experience with /fit/ at all. They love to hate on fat logic but when a fatty legitimately wants to take back their life and asks for help, they're willing to take them in. That's what makes /fit/ so great - they'll take you in despite your faults and make you great so long as you remain devoted to the cause. There's people that lift daily. Roids discussion is always confined to a /fraud/ thread. Red pill cancerous threads occasionally pop up, sure. I kind of had two phases, one with raw junk food quitting and then one with getting the meals in better shape. Both fucked with me bad in their own ways. Yeah. It's insane.
