It's comfy when he sleeps in my bed and walking the pupper twice a day actually forces me to get out of the house. I get sort of paternal when I watch over him playing in the park, you know, getting all worried about bad things happening.

in my neighborhood there is a family who had their son move into a house about 1/2 a mile away and instead of walking 10 minutes to get to his house i see them driving back and forth all the time. fucking lazy bastards.
Dogs are wonderful in every way imaginable. But if you get a puppy, they are a lot of work. Training them can be a challenge, especially in certain breeds, and puppies need to go outside like every half an hour. So if you're a first time owner, adopt an adult dog from a shelter. They, ah, weed out the dogs with behavior problems, so you pretty much have a guaranteed awesome dog all ready to go.
i have a female wheaten terrier and she is really awesome. she jumps up to greet me whenever i get home and she loves going on hikes. i've lost a ton of weight from getting a lot of exercise by taking her on long walks every day.

if you adopt a mutt they're generally healthier too since they have more genetic diversity. when i went to the shelter they had like 80% pit bulls though and i live in a neighborhood with a lot of little kids. not saying that pit bulls can't be really sweet dogs, it depends on the owner, but i wasn't willing to take a chance and ended up buying a purebred.
I have a 4 month old Cockerpoo and Whippet.
Had them both since 7 weeks.

But I disagree about the shelter comment.
I first tried to adopt 2 different dogs before I gave up and just got puppies so I would know their history and their problems.
First shelter dog was a Greyhound who was so dam abused he would freak the fuck out over any sight of a car or other dog.
So no taking him basically anywhere, it would absolutely destroy our apartment beyond what you would expect a new dog would.
It made my life miserable and I dreaded waking up because I knew it would be there.
The same for dog 2.
You do not know the problems these dogs have and they only get worse in the shelter. I would even go as far to say most as pretty mentally fucked up in there.
But I tried.

I'm a first time dog owner and ended up gong with a puppy, the dog is mostly for my father, he's retiring in a year or so and since I'm a worthless neet anyway I take care of her during the day, do all the walking and feeding, and he gets to play with her at night. This way he has a nice companion once he retires, one that's known him since she was a pupper.

But as mine have gotten older I sort of feel like they are more relaxed and I have more time to do my own thing.
They get better and I heard once they get desex'd it's all downhill from there.
But at the same time don't you feel like you now have a reason to be more responsibe? To wake up early? Clean and make sure your house is clean? Getting out of the house and getting some exercise?
