Fight back against an army that has trillions of dollars and the most high tech military equipment known to man?
The people massacred today have about as much chance of fighting back as those barefoot peasants living in mud huts in the poorest countries in the world. And we have to worship soldiers who commit far worse atrocities like a cult or everyone wants to kill you or throw you out of the country (at least that's how it is in the U.S.).
No matter how much information, power, and freedom the people have, they have shown no conscience or humanity. As long as it's not happening in their countries they don't care.
95% of the Jews who were killed during the Holocaust were killed outside of Germany. If you were in Germany you had a 50% chance of living because even the Nazis knew they had to put on this veneer of civility where they lived. In Ukraine, Poland, and Russia, if you were Jewish then you had a 5% chance of living.
The same principle applies today. These 'innocent people' simply do not give a shit unless it happens like it's happening now in their own countries. Why should there be any sympathy when, after they are given all the information, power, and freedom they currently enjoy, they still don't care about atrocities they are currently carrying out? In the U.S. and Europe the people are protected from the military and given human rights. You can allow yourself rights but not others? And that's somehow just?
All the west ever had to do was give those people basic human rights. It would have solved everything, but instead you treat them like they're subhuman. There's no other way they're going to respond. They're not going to bow and say, "You're Allah now! We worship you!" This will be endless until those people are treated so same as us. It's the only way.
And before you say that liberal bullshit, you can find a thousand times more pedophiles and nonazis than you can find people who believe those people deserve the same rights as us.

We don't have to kill them, but we DO need to start recognizing the serious threat of allowing the religion to continue to spread. The western world needs to actively start dismantling Islam within our own nations: at the very least, the political dialog needs to change to the point where EVERYONE recognizes that islam is dangerous and should no longer be supported in western nations. No new mosques should be built, and people that openly practice islam should not be allowed to immigrate to the West.
