When WoTLK came out, I was really fucking butthurt about TBC being over. I ended up doing only a couple of quests in GH before moving on to the 64 zone and didn't even have the music on for my entire first time through northrend. I would sit on skype and chat to people I had never met while I grinded shit for raids. My parents thought I was anti-social, and I guess I sort of was, but they had no idea that I was the fucking king inside that game, and that I had more status on my character than I would ever have in person.
The thought that vanilla/TBC will never, ever come back has actually almost led me to attempt suicide on multiple occasions. I have tried playing on private servers, but it quickly became dull, because it is the magical nostalgia and the feeling of everything being new and exciting that I miss, not the game itself.
I would seriously sacrifice my life just to go back and play vanilla/TBC again, even if it meant I would die afterwards. That is how much I loved the game.

I'd been through UO, EQ, DAOC, FFXI and a few others in between, and nearly all the aspects of WoW could be found in them. Some even did it better than WoW, but as a whole package WoW just blew them out of the water.

Mists was alright, though. Le panda meme aside, the whole "Okay, Cataclysm's over, time for us to kick shit out of each other again" theme was nice after spending so long working together for world peace. Ask any raider and they'll agree that Heroic Lei Shen is one of the toughest encounters in the game. The dailies were extensive, difficult and took ages to finish off.
The distinction between "I didn't like it" and "It's objectively bad" (i.e. the difference between Mists and WoD) needs to be drawn or everyone ends up looking bitter as fuck
I played ally on a pvp server that was like 20:1 horde to alliance.
Getting constantly ganked made it so frustrating but at the same time added a thrill to the whole leveling process.
As soon as I hit 70 it was payback time and I would patrol lowbie areas and slaughter every horde scumbag I could find.
Stranglethorn Vale and Hillsbrad were my main gank areas.

TBC was best expansion
I think a lot of the praise TBC gets is standing on the shoulders of vanilla. Kara was vanilla content that they moved to TBC because of time restraints, flying mounts were a bad idea, zones stopped using nature scenery and became orange/purple blotches such as hellfire and netherstorm.
TBC did however bring us zangarmarsh, difficult heroics, justice badges etc. and still had the open world plan for questing. Not to mention beautiful skies and sunshafts.

the xpacs are all shit, part of the reason vanilla did so well was it was just similar enough to and old style real life to be cool. There were natural enemies like bears and spiders and stuff, ghost stories etc. Redridge could almost be a place irl, as could elwynn or westfall. The enemies and zones were just far fetched enough to let you suspend your disbelief.

It was an awesome time-- my life was awful and I was being hazed in middle school by my peers constantly. Even my teachers were against me because I looked really weird and acted the part.
But I was a god in the game, at least for my level range. I started my own clan before they even had in game systems for that sort of thing, and when I say clan I mean full on CLAN.
We had our own ranking systems, I had generals, colonels, lieutenants, the works. Other players worshipped me, we went out leveling together, I started getting my stats high, I had my own private network of people to talk to and exchange ideas with. It was the only self confidence boost I had, and it kept me going at a time when life was miserable.

Women in Vanilla were the absolute worst, because 10 years ago it was less common to see girls in video-games, and thus seeing one in gchat made horny nerds horny as fuck.
Remember this whore who joined the guild and started flirting with me on day one. She wanted me to pick herbs for her (she could keep me company in whisper while I was doing it).
Turns out, she was flirting with everyone to get free stuff, and 2 months after joining the guild, she'd slept with one of the officers, which gave her first-prio on all items.
2 months later, the GM of the guild was burnt out and wanted to take a break. A big vote was cast on who should take his place, and after many days of arguing, I was chosen to be the new GM.
The first thing I did was kick that bitch straight out of the guild. The drama that followed was massive. I got death-threats from many male members, and the whole issue caused the guild to split in half.
Left the guild shortly after and joined a new one. I never wanted to be GM, I just wanted to kick that bitch out!

to be honest I would do it again but it is also good that I quit.In the beginning it was like heroin but it was ok since I had so much freetime as highschool studen.But things change.Also Blizzard truly killed the game all by them selfes,especially PvP.There where posted so many good Ideas to fix arena issues back in the day, in the forum.
You could also feel how the game got more boring by the day.More and more people quit,server legends,good friends and the community got so much worse.In classic and tbc I had the feeling of going into an adventure when I locked on.So many things to do,kill alliance all day from the noobs to the most well known guys.Or raid a little,with the guild.Do city raids (also when I was never that much of a raider ,but pve items ruled especially in Woltk).I never forgot my first moments ,truly a wonderful experience.So many memories may it be the crossroad chat or trade chat debates,trolls,getting glad,the first epic,doing that level 29 1k Ambush crit in classic.The game was truly the best from classic to Woltk ,but after that it went so downhill.
I did play WoW starting JUST before the release of BC, then quit after about 6-8 months and came back for another 8 during WOTLK. Never really got into the end game content, just loved being a dick ass serial killer in world PvP, forming ad hoc parties/raids to gank allies, and playing the battlegrounds, so I ended up with the 2nd grade purple PvP gear from the previous arena season. Fun game, but the only MMORPG I've played with PvE I've enjoyed was Tera because it plays like an action game rather than a spreadsheet.
The weird part was one of my characters, a human rogue, was female, and people definitely treated me differently.
