You are probably looking for cool or modal jazz. Like mentioned before, Davis is a great choice (check out In a Silent Way). Also try Pharoah Sanders, Joe Henderson, Bill Evans and Gerry Mulligan.

I like Herbie, the new stuff is where it's at. The most talented jazz pianist of the last century. I grew up listening to his album with Ken Burns on my portable CD player
