Sometimes when I play a game, read a book, watch a TV show I occasionally become infatuated with a character who's pretty qt. Like, when I played Bioshock Infinite I crushed on Elizabeth for a few weeks after.

Do you guys ever crush on people from history? If so, who? I just feel I'd do it if I were learning about cool people from the past.

It may be because I grew up in a wealthier area, but all the teachers that I had in high school that had been there for a while were actually better and more enthusiastic at their jobs. I think attitude and location have a lot to do with it though. My uncle's a History teacher and he loves it.

Most people get biz degrees from shitty schools but the school you go to for business matters a lot because all the networking comes from on campus recruiting and shit moreso than other majors

Business is fine, but to me (and all the other people who always put business in shit) is that it's such a general, non-specific degree filled with normies who just do it for the sake of doing a degree.

Put the effort in? Do internships? Specialise in a type of business? Great, you'll do well.

>>
>>24133092
I find the word "networking" deeply revolting.
It sums up everything I hate about normies. It implies the only reason they are interacting with people is to benefit themselves, to get ahead of others. They don't care about you, just what you can do for them. Any personal interest they feign is purely superficial.
>>
>>24133130
>spend your days looking at peoples infected body parts

>>
>>24133117
>Also, fuck engineers.
Ay now settle down, anon.

There are engineers and then there are Engineers.

Engineers like me absolutely adore the shit you make because you understand what we need to make the plants work. We're the guys who generate power/produce the materials with the gear you create. We would suck your dick if it wasn't awkward.

Design engineers, they can suck my asshole. I get you. They are the retarded fucks who think putting a necessary valve 30 feet above the nearest flat surface is a good idea...

>>
>>24133197
Networking works in a way that if the person is good at what they're doing the company and the person who refers them also gets benefit out of it also.

Of course it works like that hypothetically but mostly it's who can suck that dick best and talk the loudest. It sucks but that's how the game is played

>>24133702
In US right now engineering of most types except like Aerospace/Nuclear are employable almost anywhere with above average salary, with those 2 being ones you just need to make sure you live in the right place for.

There is a new meme on here to troll engineers (I guess EE in particular) by mocking them in comparison to medicine.

I mean, doctors are telling people to not go into medicine now and it just doesn't seem like it would be as fun to do unless you get to be Dr. House and take painkillers all day, but that's just me.

Honestly the concept of any hard science being above most engineering degrees in terms of employment or salary is almost laughable. Engineering is the practical stuff that employers actually want. Unless you want to do research for a Uni nobody cares about string theory.

How is your business gonna make enough money to sustain yourself while also benefiting from it in a way that is more meaningful that working a job when you have no qualifications?

This isnt about degrees in general. Its about STEM. This is about STEM majors being extremely arrogant for people who are merely wage slaves.

How is a guy who doesnt even own his own life that arrogant?

You are never going to be more than middle managment regardless of your STEM degree and you think you are better than anybody else?

You are never going to be anything more than some dork working 24 hours a day getting cholera sticking your fingers up some single moms vagina....

Guy pissed me off saying his position is more respectable. He is a fucking wage slave his degree doesnt matter, he is a slave, he comes in at 8:00 am and leaves whenever the fucking manager says he should.

Guys who own their own businesses, making money for themselves are in respectable positions which can also be deemed lucrative, not some guy in an office on some capped salary.

Grown ups who arent out here wage slaving would invest capital into finding solutions to the issue of people dying of prostate cancer.

Capitalists would solve that problem. Some guy in a white coat would form apart of the solution process started and operated by business owners investing their capital, again in this you'd just be a wage slave. A cog.

Hold another L.

Studying by yourself in any serious subject is very difficult. I never had any friends before uni or during the first year, but I forced myself to approach a group of people that I know are studying together and ask if I could study with them. It was either that or failing the education. They were skeptical of me at first but eventually got integrated pretty well. They're not really my friends and I don't hang out with them outside of studies, but they help a lot with the work. Bottom line is you really need to find a group to work in at least. Make yourself as presentable as possible (hygiene, clothing, facial expression etc) and approach people. They will never, ever approach you, this much I can promise. You have to take the initiative. That's my advice and the only thing I know.

Its really a huge waste of time to join a cesspool of FOBs and asshats that will probably work in desk jobs any way
You might as well get an easier degree for the same job. Literally business and economics will get you farther than STEM.

Especially if yourean entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs invent invest and find the people to make their plans a reality. Those people are the STEM majors. Know what you're getting yourself into. If you aren't living a comfortable life now don't go into STEM. STEM success also is primarily determined by how much your parents think you're autistic and leave you alone. You can live fine off a blue-collar wage, society just tells you you need to be a doctor earning six figures because they need your labour. Once you get the six figures society comes up with all kinds of materialistic bullshit to part you from your money so that you think you actually need the job. Once you have saved up for a house and car what more do you fucking need?
>>
>>24140629
Still wasting your time. I dropped out and set up a business within the time it would have taken me to do the degree. They teach you so much bullshit, anyone who thinks university is to prepare you for work is deluded, it's just there to teach you random shit, employers just happen to use it as a yard-stick now.

Accounting major here. I transferred from community college to a small school mid-year and I feel like it fucked me up.

>do one shitty summer internship
>It's mostly accounts payable, want to kill myself every day
>working with some normie asshole from bigger college
>home for the summer so he gets this internship in his wealthy suburban hometown
>see on linkedin he's working for PWC now

I hate this motherfucker. Gets into big 4 because both his parents are CPAs and he goes to a big school where they actually recruit. Literally no accounting firms recruit at my school, we have to take a bus to a career fair elsewhere and big firms don't even give me the time of day. Oh well, he got his gf pregnant so I guess I win in the long run.

Now due to some stupid graduation requirement I find out I can actually graduate in december instead of spring like I thought (dropping my minor helped). Only this isn't really a good thing because I have no practical experience and I have no jobs lined up or anything. I was planning on interning for a firm and then getting hired after graduation, but it looks like that might be out the window.

>want to work audit
>interview with large national firm, not big 4 but just large enough to be good for me
>really want to work here, mail out thank you notes and everything
>just got turned down on friday
>feeling shitty ever since
>also interviewed with a small local tax firm
>don't want to do tax, don't want to work there, but feel like I nailed the interview
>still waiting to hear back

I'm so anxious waiting to hear from these guys, it feel like my only chance at actually having a decent career. Otherwise I guess I'll have to try to apply with my terrible resume for full-time work. I don't even know how that works.

Sorry for the wall of text, I'm really stressing about this and I wanted to get it off my chest. I fucking hate accounting, I have no idea why I picked this shitty profession. I should have just done IT or been a janitor.

Limit it to specific times when everything else you should be doing that day is done. Set this habit now and you'll end up saving an extra 300 days of wasted time by the end of undergrad.

oh shit the brainwashing never ends, this is another load of bollocks that the university you go to matters. Outside of Law, economics it doesn't fucking matter. You know why schools push kids into Oxbridge? Because it makes them look good. That is it. What grade you get in university is far more important. "top" universities are actually worse at teaching undergrad subjects because they are so wrapped up in their research. Universities that claim to be "top in undergrad studies" it's all marketing, the university I dropped out of was a top one and my department were letting in people with Bs when I applied then they suddenly hiked it up to A*s. Why? Because management told them to improve their image. The department stayed adamant that they never had a problem with B students but management decided they had to keep up with the joneses.

I have more evidence, After I dropped out I was pretty lost and applied to some apprenticeships. One was with a global engineering firm called Arup. I didn't get the job so I was considering returning to university and asked them where I should go, they said it didn't matter all they care about is what modules I did and my final degree class.

Over time I realized that I busted my arse in A levels just to please others. Could have chilled and got AAB but no they had to whip me into getting A*A*A as if there's really a difference in quality between universities who ask for the former and latter.

However, the selection at the entry is quite hard and you have the obligation to work for the state after you graduated.

Fucking retard just because there wasn't a gun to your head doesn't mean you weren't obliged to do it. It's like military service in some places. Even if it's not mandatory there is a lot of social pressure, you're not a man if you don't go etc. Likewise with high achieving kids you're basically branded a failure if you voice opinions about not wanting to go to university. I think I I did mention it to my aunt once and she was entierely adamant that I go. I remember before A levels in GCSE this smart kid shocked everyone by deciding to do an apprenticeship instead of A levels because his dad had a connection. Everyone said shit about him behind his back INCLUDING ME about how he was wasting his talent. You're entitled to that opinion, I even agree that women studies is pointless but I think Communication has way more value. I'll admit Communication isn't very popular but for instance my college has a lot of kineseology majors, I think that's a retarded major.

The majority of them want to do physical therapy and I agree that job makes a lot of money but I still think in terms of academic and knowledge it provides you nothing other then learning how to fix muscle issues. You're not learning anything of long term value....

My point is if 100 people said Communications is a shit major and 10 people said it was a decent major then I would still find value in it, I know it's a cliche thought but honestly if you value your major and choices then you'll never care what others think.

Do I think STEM majors are faggots? Not necessarily, Am I jealous? Most likely but at the end of the day I'm studying something I enjoy. I mean I'm not sure how much you actually know about Communications and if I took the time to tell you everything I know about it you'd most likely just say "Oh I already knew all that" or something like "Oh I don't see the benefit in learning that" I mean honestly there are a myriad of things you could say about it.

TL;DR Basically if you like your major and what you are learning then it doesn't matter what others say, granted most people will say if you aren't learning a trade/skill like STEM then your degree is shit.

> I just couldn't love myself if I studied something that stupid.

Again your opinion, I don't know what your major is but I could easily call your major stupid or view is as worthless. How would that make you feel? If you say that you wouldn't care then you most likely understand how I felt when you said my major was worthless and stupid, opinions, everyone has them.

My college has an unwritten/unspoken rule that if the professor doesn't show up after 15 minutes we all leave, granted I don't know if that rule is universal. We did the same thing in high school, actually the rule is that if it's a non PhD professor then you wait 15, but if they have a PhD then you wait like 25.

That's perfectly normal.
It's called "cum tempore", which is Latin for "with time".
All times in academia are usually given with it, when nothing else is denoted.
It means that from the time given the even starts within 15 minutes.

There's also sine tempore, which means on point.

i.e. 10am c.t. is actually "between 10:00am and 10:15am". 10am s.t. is "10:00am".

I may rant.

This kind of shit is what is wrong with society. Life is not some experience with objective social standards and tiers. If you live that way, you're living to make your parents happy, you're living for everyone else. Not yourself.

Life doesn't (or shouldn't) work that way. University doesn't have fucking tiers. You don't go to university to select your life's future outcome, or your potential success, even though that's a very common idea. You should be going to university to learn about something you love. If that's history, then great. If it's neuroscience, great. Don't do it because of the status. Don't do it so your mom can tell her friends "oh, my sons a DOCTOR". What the fuck, man. That's stupid. That idea of predetermination is what probably depresses most people going through uni. It's an idiotic philosophy to treat your life like a conveyor belt, where you're popped into the university machine, assigned a tier based off of what you did as a brain-dead teenager in highschool, and then proceed unrelentingly towards your retirement and death with a shiny metal badge that says "doctor" on it.

Fuck that. There are no rules. You can graduate with so-called shit-tier degrees and become hugely successful. The idea that you can't is just a comfortable little idea to prevent you from even trying. Unless your life goal is to impress other idiots who believe in the same thing, who cares. Your willpower determines your success, nothing else.

Go to the desert southwest and start making things with turquoise. Smoke weed. Take advantage of the regional traditions and do mescaline. Eat some mushrooms or drop acid and go to Vegas for a weekend. No rules. Fuck it. If you did that and died of an overdose, you'd have had a better idea of what life is than the people who pat themselves on the back for having a degree in pharmacology because it's a status symbol, and then go on to have a very by-the-books life because they're afraid of what people will think of them if they go wild and do something that THEY actually want to do.

Looking at life through such a deterministic lens will only give you anxiety about your future and regret over your past. Especially in the context of /r9k/, i can tell exactly why this shit was posted; so all of you can have a nice maudlin wank about how shitty your 'life choices' or lack thereof have been, or to lord over everyone else your shiny little badge that says Bachelor of Chemistry because it and its empty promise of prestige and success is the only thing you have in your empty miserable shell of a life.

Does that make any sense? I dropped 75 micrograms so don't take any of this shit too seriously.

I agree with what you're saying. But I'm more saying you should reject society's conventional goals and a large part of society too, namely the parts you just mentioned (money, capitalism).

imo, success is not measured by social standing or wealth. It's measured by satisfaction. The problem is that most people become satisfied with money and popularity, while ignoring most of the other ways. You can be dirt-poor and unknown, but if you have a woman/man in your life that you love in the truest, purest, and most profound way possible and they love you in that same way too, then you, my friend, are incredibly successful.

After success in things like love and family it gets progressively more fanciful and less reliant on society/money/etc. Travel and exploration, self-improvement, self-expression, spirituality, sex, and drugs are the ones that readily come to mind. It's a spectrum of positive life experiences, really; at one end, you get the ones that require more patience and judgement, like becoming wealthy, cultivating relationships, social stuff, and at the other end you get the really self-involved things like self-improvement, sex, and even impulsive and volatile stuff like drugs.

So all I have to say is that life is about success. Success is about satisfaction. Satisfaction is about positive life experiences. Money and wealth are a very common path to success, but there's so much more to success, and therefore LIFE, than that.

A very materialistic view. You're entitled to it of course, but I would not want to live my life that way. Money does not buy all the prerequisites to happiness, and for those prerequisites that it DOES buy, let's be honest. Most of those don't cost all that much. Most people believe the lie that artists don't get paid well so they steer clear of the field.

Those who choose to actually go into the arts soon realize that it's not just doing shit willy nilly and expressing yourself all the time in what ever way you want, so that cuts out even more people.

Then those who do graduate have to compete with those who are already in the field. The rule of thumb is that if you don't end up working in your artistic field in the first 18 months after graduating you won't end up working in the field at all, so that cuts out even more people.

Finally you're left with those who have made the cut and got lucky enough to work and they end up getting paid 60-75 bucks an hour because engineers and scientists don't know how to make their products look good.

MEDICINE IS NOT GOD TIER! Doctors are overpaid overrated faggots

I'd say "GREAT TIER" should be "GOD TIER" and vice versa. I'm a mathfag but a friend of mine is a statfag, so you should include "Statistics" too.
