It's a mental illness. There's a reason why trans people have a higher rate of suicide than any other demographic, despite the fact that they don't get any more verbal abuse than homosexuals or minorities. If you honestly believe mutilating your genetals and pretending that you're a girl is "who you really are", while everyone around you pats themselves on the back for allowing you to live your glaringly obvious delusion is "forward thinking", you are going to have a traumatic and scarring clash with reality very soon.
Picking your gender also isn't a replacement for your identity. Personalities are obviously influenced by the fact that you are male or female, but you can spend all your time and money trying to convince yourself and others that you are a girl and expect to ever achieve it, or even have any defining characteristics beyond it. Do you think actual women spend so much time worrying about "passing"?
Truth is, you have failed as a person and feel that your gender is to blame, because its the trendy thing to do. You''ll soon regret having the surgery or taking the hormones, but you'll be so delusional and invested in the treatment that you'll absolutely refuse to accept this, and keep telling yourself this is who you really are.
I fully expect this post to hurt whatever trans people that read it to the bone and maybe even consider suicide. Fact is, I'm the only person who cares enough about you to tell you the truth.
