Yogurt is generally a bad base for marinade, I strongly suggest you don't use it.
I think it's fairly amazing that he managed to figure caramelization on his own, though.
Generally if you are gonna prepare a marinade, you're always gonna focus on a sour-ish flavor alongside sugar and you are either using fat or water as a base.
Dairy products tend to taste awful when fried and they're a nightmare to clean up.
