I don't understand how people who make over $50k/yr continue working for more than 5 years.

You can get a decent house and car for $170k. That's ~4 years work after taxes. With the rest of the money they can just save it or buy property and rent it out.

Why the fuck do people continue working for another 25 years? What does one do with so much money?
>>
>>24093930
Family values etc...
>>
Bills
Food
Clothing

And dare I say it, socialising
>>
>>24093930
Because it gives me something to do
I lived the NEET life and I hated it. At first it was easy to keep up a social lufe, but eventually that lead to boredom, which lead to depression, so I isolated myself.
The only reason I work is to keep myself occupied. I hate it, but its better than nothing
>>
>>24094048
This.

I make anywhere between 50-60k a year but all of that comes up.
Plus im putting a sibling through college and on average the area i want to buy a house in is 350k for a house.
>>
Property taxes alone on a $170K house will probably be several thousand every year, not even considering utilities, insurance, food, etc.
>>
>>24093930
Me either.

I make $45k/yr now, and I'm planning on working about another 5 years, NEETing until ~50 when I'll kill myself since my health will start going to shit anyway.

It also matters where you live, too. I'm a dirt poor area where I can live on about $15k/year.
>>
>>24093930

>people should settle for abject poverty and mediocrity
>>
>You can get a decent house and car for $170k
Okay, how about:

>Food
>Utilities
>Car Maintenance
>Car, health and house insurance
>Clothes
>Health and beauty supplies
>Taxes
>HOA fees
>Gas
>Entertainment/socializing
>Furniture
>House repairs

And that's not even including getting a GF, kids or pets, which many people want.
>>
>>24093930
Slave mindset.
>>
My dad makes like 80k Australian dollars per year and has minimal assets. He's bitching and whining about having to buy me a 3k car. Basically he maxes out his expenses and doesn't save anything. He could stop being retarded and save a fuck ton of money but he's a pro at wage slaving at this point. It's been his whole life. I don't even know what the fuck he spends it all on. Big house loan (literally pointless, he could live in a cheap place) and I don't know what else? His company pays for his car too. But he literally has borrowed money against his house to get random shit like motorbike stuff. What a fucking retard. Who would willingly work full time and not fucking save any money. He could retire and live in cabin. Hell he could live in a cabin and keep his job since he works from home most of the time.
>>
>>24094218
Most of that can be avoided or minimised if you really want to.
>>
>>24094302

>I'm a child and have no concept of the actual cost of living

>I think 80k before tax is a lot of money in Oz
>>
>>24094458
Iived on my own on centreline before. I made it. 80k is a lot of money if you don't waste it on dumb shit.
>>
Your forgetting about property taxes man. Just because you own a house doesn't mean you don't pay rent.
>>
>>24094507

>living in abject poverty on welfare is possible, which is the same as owning property, supporting a family, and all the expenses of day to day life
>>
>>24093930

Idk where you live but in Murica you need a lot of money if you want any decent healthcare. I woke up with kidney stone pain (didn't know at the time) went to the hospital to get diagnosed. They scanned me once and gave me some percs. Bill was 10k
>>
>>24094440
Sure, if you want to live like a welfare nigger.

But most people have more wants in life than just to live bare bones in life for 50 years.
>>
>>24094596
This

I got a sprained ankle a few years ago playing basketball. Waited 3 hours for a doctor to give me an ankle brace and crutches and to be billed $2300. Had insurance so I think it was $700. Still fucked up.
>>
>>24093930

I worked 5 years for like 40k/yr and bought 2 places to rent out and now just live off that. It sucks and I am going back to work soon. After all bills are paid I have about as much free cash as a welfare leech
>>
>>24094646
Go live in the woods then faggot. It's that or be a literal slave.
>>24094570
Not sure what you're trying to say m8. All those years wage slaving have probably fried your brain.
>>
>>24094596
Lmao, nigga drink water. Fucking put down the dr.pepper.
>>
>>24094714
>Go live in the woods then faggot. It's that or be a literal slave.
Nah, I'm good.

But you have fun in the woods.
>>
>>24094714

What I'm saying is your notion that people should be content to live as if they were on welfare is ridiculous and you seemingly have no concept of the real costs of life when you're an adult.

But you knew that - you're just being a cunt.
>>
>>24094137

louisiana has low property tax
>>
>>24094874
>real costs of life when you're an adult.
That's not an absolute. "Real cost of life" can be anything depending on ones choices. . What are you even doing here normie?
>>
>>24093930
> living the rest of your life with 50k
Anon, that sounds like such a miserable existence. Why the fuck would you do all day? Sure anime and vidya are cool but there's an entire fucking planet to explore. You don't have to be a slave to your work either.many people get paid for doing shit they actually like doing. Why can't neets understand this?
>>
>>24094091
Umm... maybe get a hobby or work towards a passion that you've always wanted to pursue. If all you know is wagekeking I feel terrible for you.
>>
>>24094993
Louisiana is also a complete shithole.
>>
>>24095139
So what do you do that you just can't wait to get up early monday morning for?
>>
>>24094160
if you're going to kill yourself than why the fuck are you even bothering to stick around now? Idiot.
>>
>>24093930
>What does one do with so much money?
They live above their means or just barely within it.

When I was a small child, I remember money was kind of a big deal. We didn't go hungry but we didn't live extravagantly either.
My mom got into real estate. She ended up being one of the lucky few who was good at it. She made quite a bit of money.
And she SPENT it. Remodeled the house, hired lawn mexicans, took pointless vacations, bought a lot of jewelry, a new car. Always buying shit.
She works constantly, trying to make enough to cover all the pointless expenses and then barely ever having time to enjoy any of it.
If she'd just kept living below her means after lucking out in real estate she could have retired by now. You'll find the same story all over the place.
>>
I've spent so long without money I know how to entertain and sustain myself on the cheap

Normies just don't understand when they're constantly going out to consume masses of shit they don't need and want to show off.

>>24095139
>just get outside and explore and have fun
Fucking scum
>>
>>24093930
>you can save your entire after-tax salary every year for major purchases
>once you have a house and a car you have no more expenses
>>
>>24095368
Yes. Live in a car for that time. Shower at a gym with a yearly membership.

Once you own property off the grid your cost of living is almost nothing. Everyone is either paying rent or interest on loans. Once that expense is gone you're golden. Most people never pay off a house though.
>>
>>24095212
Software development. Learn new shit nearly everyday, co workers are chill, free beer in the office cuz startup, nice salary. Sure there are some days when I don't feel like going in but I certainly wouldn't want to be unemployed for an extended period of time unless I'm traveling. I've done the whole NEET thing after college and it was fucking soul sucking. Never again. If you actually enjoy being a neet, you're a slave to mindless entertainment.
>>
>>24095354
That's great if you can get by cheaply, but are you happy with that lifestyle?
>>
>>24095481
>you're a slave to mindless entertainment.
I guess reading is mindless.
>>
>>24095539
No it's not mindless (depending on what you're reading). Do you apply what you read to create something new our provide some sort of service? Does it give you a true sense of purpose?
>>
>>24093930
You can move to a cheaper country and buy a nice apartment for 30-50k, and live very nicely for $500-800/month just fine. This means you only need about 150k for the rest of your life.
>>
>>24094830

You never know it's a problem till it is a problem. Living clean now
>>
Houses in my city cost $800K for a shoddy detached. Or you can buy a detached for $500K that is one hour from downtown. So basically we have to work until the end of time. Feels bad man
>>
>>24093930
Taxes bring you down to $35k/yr.
>>
>>24096708
My father is actually considering moving to Nicaragua because the cost of living is so low, and apparently the US will still send expats their social security payments.
>>
>>24095481
>>Software development.
No, what do you actually do with your life, not what is your job? What are these wonderful things that you pay for by slaving your life away?
>>
A cheap house costs 1million where I live
>>
>>24095449
Living in a car is illegal stupid
>>
>>24093930
NEETs confirmed for not understanding how much nonsense the state forces onto people.

My home is worth 1.7 million. The property taxes are ridiculous, more than any rent or mortgage I've heard of.
>>
I plan on buying a lakeshore condo in the spring, I like guns and fast cars and drugs, and fast food
these things need money
>>
>>24095539
No shit, look what we're doing right now
>>
>>24093930
>NEET Economics

Looks like we have a new theory people!
>>
>>24093930
>all these retarded answers to this retarded question

Anon there is a lot more shit you have to pay for than a house and one car. Things like property taxes, various forms of insurance, food, clothing, fuel, maintenance, electricity, water, gas, internet, cell, etc. If you have a wife and kids they spend pretty much all of it just by living in western society. This completely discounts any hobbies, vacations, or pets.

Property isn't a fool proof investment either. Shit tenants wreck your house and don't pay? Tough shot for you. Economy goes to crap and everyone's moving away? Too bad, you still have to pay the bills or the bank will repo it.
>>
>>24097609
None of this is actually true if you're not a massive jewkek.
>>
>>24094218
>>Food
Not too expensive if you shop right.
>>Utilities
Yeah that's true.
>>Car Maintenance
Yep
>>Car, health and house insurance
kek
>>Clothes
I spend $100 max a year on clothes
>>Health and beauty supplies
huh?
>>Taxes
Pain in the ass
>>HOA fees
why?
>>Gas
yep
>>Entertainment/socializing
sure anon, that really costs a fortune....
>>Furniture
I only get used furniture from dumpsters
>>House repairs
who cares
>>And that's not even including getting a GF, kids or pets, which many people want.
>implying
>>
>>24095481

Do you have a degree?
>>
>>24093930
In Kekifornia, $50k a year is barely living wage if you rent a studio apartment in the ghetto of a small ass town and have any denbts to pay.
