who /stockingshelves/ here?

Why isn't this done with automation yet?
>>
Is this a good job for socially anxious people?
If you work after closing time and you don't really have to talk to anyone, right?
>>
>>24082611
pretty much senpai
>>
>>24082546
Why have the price tags been automated yet? That's my question.

One of my shifts just involves going around the store changing the price tags. Even more mind numbing than stocking. Should just have an electric display that automatically updates tbqh.

>Asks "so do I get t his for 14.99?"
>Say "No, I literally just told you it's 20.99 and the scanners correct, go to a cashier for more info"

>It's the dumbass
>Go to them and tell the cashier I already told her the price multiple times
>Dumbass looks defeated
>Walk away
>>
>>24084378
She's not a dumbass, people do that shit intentionally just to see if they can get one over the cashier.

I used to work at a car wash. One day the ticketing system was down and a lady used that to her advantage to get free detailing services from the guys at the front of the tunnel. Both myself and the cashier told her these services were extra but she still lied to the guy that I promised them to her.

It's the only time I ever confronted a customer.
>>
>>24084541

Eh, well in the end she lost. And made a fool of herself in the process.

I already had a feeling she was trying to get over, that's why I started being more blunt.
>>
>>24083645

Was thinking about this the other day. LCD/LED screens that can be easily snapped onto and off of a shelf. Would save about 16-24 hours of time per week.

Not even our job, dumb old bitch is supposed to do it but won't.
>>
We need a proper map or something in retail.

The amount of time i get asked where a certain product is is infuriating. It wouldn't bother me so much if people didn't get so indignant if i don't know. It's like, i don't even work on the shop floor, so how the hell am i meant to know where a specific product is?

The minute i step on to the shop floor i just get bombarded though. Why i'm glad i'm not a stocker or anything. Customers must get so annoying.
>>
I did that for a while at an industrial supply store in an ancient falling apart warehouse. Was pretty interesting actually. Longest job I ever worked because I never really stopped learning about stuff. Eventually was in charge of plumbing and mill supply.

Helped fix and design everything from chlorine pump systems for water treatment plants , rural fire trucks, custom preheater rigs for large welding projects, rail car refurbishment.

Was mostly just picking the appropriate materials , but several times ended up engineering stuff for guys because I had a reputation for this type of work.

Too bad my boss was an idiot. Wouldn't pay me commission , just hourly. Left that job to learn more stuff and get paid better

Unfeasible so far. You'd need a lot of space for the machinery, which I'm assuming would stock product from behind the shelf.

>>24082611

I work overnight, only have to deal with customers for the first 2 hours of my shift, feels good.

Floor cleaners work overnight too, used to be this Mexican husband and wife. Eventually the husband has to go a different store to clean, that's when me and his 6/10 wife would sneak away upstairs to this small room next to the break room and fuck bareback. She would always wrap her legs around me tight when she knew I was going to cum and make me pump every drop into her. Eventually she got pregnant and they moved away, now I look at her Facebook and they've had a kid that doesn't quite looks more like me than him, but could be someone else's for all I know.

>If you work after closing time
You won't have a shift that short. Usually you work about 6 to 8 hours a day, occasionally that means you are in the store after closing but you will still have to deal with customers sometimes.
Knowing where everything is in the store and guiding people to it is part of the job so you need to be able to handle those exchanges.

I actually like this job, but I don't have to stock shelves much any more.
>>

No. Superviser and that generally leave me alone. Most people i know clock out an hour early too. People just don't clock out on their break like they are supposed to and just clock out an hour early instead. It's never been brought up.

They only get uppity if you don't clock out at all (like before i have stayed clocked in for the whole 9 hours) and they just take an hour off anyway.

I did stocking for about 6 weeks at 16. It was shit so I went back to cutting grass. When it came time to get a real job I only applied for fuck off type jobs. Pay is low but still above minimum wage. I briefly worked at a wine store because I love alcohol but instead of discussing my passion it college shits looking for cheapest alcohol to dollar ratio who wouldn't believe it was franzia chillable red even after showing the math. Stupid fucking kid wanted vodkavodka but didn't ask for it. I showed them 1.75L aristocrat, and they get 750ml of taka instead. Middle aged women were just as bad. They mispronounce styles and regions to sound smart, then argue when you say something is shit and they buy it anyway. I understand if I were pushing them towards a mere expensive wine, but the superior wine was like $0.25 cheaper. Jokes on them though, they brought that shit as a gift and probably looked like a huge cunt to the host. My favorite was the old men who just grabbed bourbon and walked out. They usually knew what they wanted but they actually listened when they asked for suggestions. I won't even dwell on the thieving. Fucking bums and niggers is why I quit. Jesus christ JUST fuck my shit up senpai, neetkeks just take my money I'm worthless

It's been three years since I worked at a grocery store. It sure as hell doesn't feel like it though. I'm not sure how I feel about my time there now. On the flip side though I got banned for life about a year ago due to political bullshit.

You have it completely wrong dude.
I am a commercial /industrial exterminator, and half of the job is discretion.

Call Steritech, Presto X or Ecolab and they can come in after close and clean the place out.

Smashing them is more humane and sanitary than letting them die on glue boards or poison. There is suprisingly little blood in them and if you roll them as you smash them they usually just kind of pop open and there isn't any blood really.

Letting them piss and shit everywhere is what's gross

If you're a stocker & not a merchandiser you are seriously missing out. I get paid 2x as much+ mileage for basically the same job & im a vendor so people leave me alone
>>

I do this
>supposed to clock out for hour-long lunch
>never do

No one notices cause I bring my lunch anyway
>>
>>24084937

I go to the library & apply to other jobs while "working"
>>
>>24082611
Yeah, you work alone. It's very easy.
>>
>>24082482
I used to do this for Walmart. It's really not that bad. Night shift kind of sucked though. I can't really sleep during the day like that. Now I have a cubicle job making more money with even less social contact and better hours. It all worked out I guess.
>>
>>24084937
>have to clock out for an hour for lunch
>spend 15 minutes in the bathroom before clocking out
>clock out for 30 minutes
>clock back in
>sit in the breakroom for another 30 minutes
>get to leave work a half hour early

>tfw some of the boys and men that stock shelves have nice arms

OP here, facing is the best imo, the hours just fly by and you don't even have to pay attention, you just start daydreaming while you do it

Frozen/dairy at a semi-upscale local place. It has its perks, not many tho.

We have a starbucks in our store and when people decide they're done with their coffee they just set the cup down wherever. It pisses me off and when I see somebody do it I pick it up and chase after them saying "sir/maam, you forgot your coffee!" even though it's obviously empty.

>face frozen
>this entire arrangement of products has no organization at all, there are no dividers or slots for anything except the drinks
>the freezers are jammed to overflowing and boxes spill over the sides to fall down to the bottom of the doors
>attempt to stock/face/do anything
>knock an entire row of shitty frozen dinners off the shelf trying to reach behind something
>arm gets stuck in between pile of frozen peas and some jagged plastic thing holding the upper shelf up
>these same plastic supports are placed randomly around, and if one happens to be in the way of a product that comes in a box then that's too bad, it won't fit in that spot and will have to be turned sideways/stacked on its back, bringing with it another range of problems
>nobody else who ever works in these aisles of hell bother to rotate items because they just want to be gone from it as soon as possible (I can understand that)
>as a result I keep finding mummified foods dating from like 2011 when I reach way in the back
>those products that come in weird boxes that DON'T FUCKING STACK RIGHT >>24086688

>BOXES THAT DON'T FUCKING STACK RIGHT
>PRODUCTS THAT GET PACKED IN BOXES IN A WAY THAT PUTS ALL THE WEIGHT FORWARD AND CAUSES BOXES TO JUST FALL FACE FIRST OFF THE SHELF AND TO THE BOTTOM LIKE AN OLYMPIC DIVER
>only half of the ice cream was allowed to use special cages to hold it, all the rest is just supposed to be lined up in a row on the bottom according to the tags
>none of the ice cream is in the right place for the tag
>we don't carry half of the ice cream listed on the tags
>it's just a fucking mess of random shit, go through and fix it carefully winding up with something like 3 french vanilla rows where the tag says 'Blueberry Bukkake'
>the doors are supposed to lock open but half are broken and can't, get smacked in the head by heavy glass doors closing on their own

I don't stock shelves but I work the night shift at a fairly large clothes shop in London, 10pm-7am Monday-Friday

Its pretty cool, I don't have to deal with customers, you work a lot alone and my co workers are okay and we sometimes smoke weed around the back during our breaks.

Only downside is that there's 0 good looking girls who do the night shift
>>
>>24085543
No but we've had a couple incidents with ants, thank goodness no customers noticed

>checking dates on candy bags one night
>notice ants crawling in the payday shelf slot
>look closer, see ants inside the payday bags
>pull the bags and call the manager to discuss ants
>"uh yeah it's fine I put a bug bait in the aisle a few days ago"
>next day, myself and a co-worker go over to look at the shelf
>they lift a bag of kit-kats and find a gigantic mass of ants crawling on the shelf, inside more candy bags and underneath on the floor
>our new assistant manager walks into his shift (our first together) to see us tearing ant-filled shelving from the wall and drowning them to death with raid

Thanks to some kid dropping a lollipop we had to throw out quite a bit of candy

Not in a lot of stores that have no touch / no chase policy. Some stores are lax about it though and you're not even supposed to stop a thief unless you're 100% sure. One wrong stop and you risk losing your job. Also depends on the store and area.
>>
>>24085386
I do this for the lazy assholes that call asking if we have every detailed item on their shopping list in stock
or just leave them on hold until they hang up

I used to be a shelf monkey on nights.

I sleep 9 hours a day and get 10 dollars an hour for doing so

Tesco and the pay must've been about either 8 or 9 pound an hour. Then you got your unsociable hours pay and then working through sunday 12am - 7am you got your sunday premium pay
>>
>>24094827
Primark, and the pay is around 10 pounds
