So, /r9k/, this will be my new apartment (see layout/image), and below is my budget:

>My Salary: ~$40,000/yr
>Apartment: ~$11,500/yr
>Other Expenses: ~$4,000/yr
>Savings Account: ~$12,000/yr
>Money to use on whatever: $5,000/yr (~$400/mo)
>Taxes: $7,500

On one hand, I'm 24 and having grown up in poverty with no father in picture, I'm glad to finally have my own place (thought it would take until I was 30). On the other hand, damn. I wonder if this apartment = no gf.

Don't be a little bitch. In a few months I'll be permanently living in pic related (not exactly, but very similar) and will absolutely love it.
>>

Good point. I did get laid living with my mom, at my mom's place.

>>24069118

Thanks mates. You're right.

>>24069393
Seems adventurous, but dangerous. Why a boat? One of my professors lived in one, back in college. I think she still does.
>>
>>24069081

chad here

i asked girl for directions once at the bus stop. turns out she was a little drunk and 3 hours later i was fucking her in the bar toilet
>>
>>24069059
Girls won't care so much, but depending on where you live it might be unusual.

I live in San Francisco in a studio, 400 sq feet, and it's not unusual here. I pay $2250/month, though...which is actually a good deal.

No greater joy to me than sailing

Plus living in a sailboat is cheap as fuck when you compare mooring + small maintenance cost to actual rent + utilities. Most docks have free internet, water, electricity and waste management.
>>
It's a legitamite one bedroom apt. What's the problem?
>>
>>24069059

Bruv, having your own place makes you 10,000% more likely to get laid.

Boy I remember the shame of having to tell a girl I still lived with my parents. That was bad. Now it's approximately 10,000% better (have gf of 1.5 years).
>>
>>24069474
I pay $2100 for the same in Santa Clara. This place is so fucking dumb.

Since I'm an actual robot, it doesn't matter to me what a girl might think about my place, since none will ever be here.
>>
>>24069474
NYC, man.
>>24069487
Sounds pretty sweet, desu. So like, boat included, how much did you pay? Do you pay much yearly? Would love a breakdown.

>>24069527
I don't know, man. You're right. I'm caring about people with houses and shit, rather than measuring my success by my own story. Thanks for the reality check.

In the Marines you are allowed to grow mustaches while deployed to a combat zone (not an official rule, just more of an unsaid understanding)

>>24069848

We shit into plastic bags and then burned them. The only "bathing" we did was wiping our crotches/underarms with babywipes. We had limited supplies of water and couldn't afford to waste it.
>>
>>24069614
Normal sailboats go for around 20-40k in good conditions. Maintenance is 10%~ sailboat cost per year if you're actually sailing. Mooring ranges from cities obviously, but I'd say it is usually less than 5% per sq. ft to normal housing in the city. Also depends on whether or not utilities are covered.
>>
>>24069803
yeah but you live in tampa

>>24069586 here. I'm originally from South FL (gulf coast, not Miami). I rented a house there for like $800/month and it included everything except electric and cable. Out here they don't even cover water, which totally blew my mind. I thought that was normal everywhere.

>>24069863
I do support/QA'ish type stuff for a large'ish tech company. I assumed NYC was the same price range as out here. i.e., $1100/month gets you, like, a milk crate.

i don't think i could deal with having the toilet in a different room like that.

inconvenient if you're really sick and you have to touch two door handles to wash your hands.

otherwise looks fine, it's a studio, if they were embarrassing there wouldn't be buildings full of them.
>>
>>24069974

Why is that guy in the background staring into the corner wall?

Is he in timeout or something?
>>
>>24070156
I've lived in a studio, doors are always open unless someone's over.

Having said that, OP's layout is weird for a studio. I'm guessing it's easier that way for plumbing reasons but most studios have the bathroom and kitchen behind the main part of the room.
>>
>>24069644
I would be miserable with a roommate.

Just think of all the threads we see here about them. Plus right now I'm living with my mom and paying 40% of rent, while her NEET boyfriend does absolutely nothing. I feel like i'm getting keked and by living alone, I'll never be in this position again.

>>24069719
>>24069856
>>24069877
Yeah. This is rather nice, isn't it? I'm glad for it too.

>>24069967
Thanks, anon. The key thing will be keeping my career. If I ever lost it, I'd be homeless, but at the rate I'm saving, I could afford a few months to find a new job before falling behind on rent.

>>24070007
Sweet. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
>>
>>24070199

It's the fap corner, look at the ground
>>
>>24070050
I'm not concerned about size much at all. I've always wanted to be a more minimalist guy. I have too much shit that I don't give a shit about. It's freaking new york so I wanna spend my time outside enjoying shit.

I also want a good location that I can conveniently bring girls off the street to and bang.

>>24069967
we lurk and don't post because we're too busy living our lives. I just come here for a kek every week or so. There was no "making it" for me because I never doubted myself to begin with.
>>

>Apartment: ~$11,500/yr
Rent or mortgage ?

Looks pretty good for a single person or with a gf but you can't have kids in there.
>>
>>24069081

This anon gets it.

Having "Chad" qualities >>>> "proving yourself" through "life milestones"

I actually know people who post facebook statuses looking for approval and pats on the back for "moving out and proving themselves and contributing to society" and all of that shit.

I also know guys in their mid-20s who not only live with their parents but can't hold jobs for more than a few months at a time and mostly sit around smoking weed and playing video games all day, yet they STILL get laid more than anyone on /r9k/ because they are good-looking "bad boys."
>>
>>24070715
Exactly. It's all about priorities. Like those dudes who would rather stay in college for 8 years than improve their social skills.
>>
>>24070715
I'm not a chad, but it was kinda fun sneaking girls into my place. But I'm too old for that now lol
>>
Is there a stove top? Anyway I use to live in a "junior" studio which was essentially the second room to a two bedroom apartment. So it was the size of a standard bedroom with a little square furnished into the kitchen area which only had a stove top and a small fridge instead of an oven and a decent sized bathroom with a long counter top for the sink. Only had one medium sized window as well.

I say go for it, go for what is affordable.
>>
>>24069059
Damn that looks super cozy desu. Big enough to be not cramped, but not so big that it would feel slightly daunting how much space you aren't using. 11/10 would buy. Where exactly is this if I may ask BTW? I'm almost out of college and want to get as far away from my parents as possible as soon as possible and this looks promising.
>>
The most pressing danger of your plan is not the apartment itself, but rather the dangers lurking outside your apartment. I have seen many mailmen creeping around apartments and you do not want them to catch your scent. When I lived in town, one particularly disgusting little fucker would constantly leave his shit in my Space Box, which I intended to use as a storage space for my literature and my .38 revolver. I even saw FedEx men, who are known associates of the violently radical left-wing pseudo-saviors of the high-brow/low-brow dichotomy. There may be young eagles in the bushes if you live in America. They frequently target the new arrivals, as I learned unexpectedly on my first night in Manhattan. I highly recommend purchasing a tent.

Your bathroom is so close to your front door that anyone passing by will hear you pooing in your loo.
>>
It looks like a nicely laid out starter apartment, but you won't be able to entertain, like at all. In a place like this you have to do all your socialising in public. What's the view like?

As soon as you can afford it you should move into a 1BR, ideally with a study nook and a small balcony.

I've always liked the idea of living in something like that. Small but not too small, can sail out to the middle of a lake and be alone, can swim whenever you want, that sort of thing.

Nah. I just want a place to call home. This works. As an anon pointed out, would-be gf should be content with it. Otherwise, not worth it.
>>
>>24071320

Dude you're on the fast track to normie town, you got a career and your own place.

Soon your coworkers are going to be inviting you over to their place to watch the game or some shit and you're going to feel bad you can't reciprocate.

In a few months not being able to entertain will bother you.
>>
>>24071320

Not like certain things are hard to cook. I can only make a few things right now, but it helps me get some decent meals without leaving my place, like some sort of pasta with beef sauce or making chicken tacos. Eggs are always quick and easy to cook but it is hard to mess them up so anyone can do that.
