It's on the X-chromosome which men have 1 of and women have 2. This means that when men have 1 deficient x-chromosome they are colourblind while women need 2.

Problem with the test is allowing all of the color spectrum to slap your face at once. It was really disorienting trying to organize turqoise/blue when there's brown/red and green/orange nearby.
If the organization method was showing only one band of color, it would be more effective.
