I listen to Honey Badger Radio, Sargon of Akkad, Vernaculis and a bunch of other intelligent anti-SJW youtube commentators.
They take in the news and academia and interpret in their own way, mostly in ways with which I agree.
Would highly recommend them if you're mostly left-wing but hate third-wave feminism and think social justice is stupid.
Yes, I pretty much taught myself drug chemistry through erowid archives, I am more interested in how to make cheap cancer drugs and WHO "essential medicines" in a clandestine setting, I look up patents and it's pretty straightforward reductions making a few kilograms or more of a drug thats worth like $6000 for one bottle of pills.
But because only one company actually does this, no person on the planet besides them and universities know that you can just google the patent and cook it up in a decent home lab but then you hear about the government talking about making drugs "cheaper"..
no you aren't.. you are making big pharmacutical companies richer.
I do watch a lot of porn and abuse drugs though too so I think it all ties in together

the problem isn't so much the difficulty in producing the drugs, it's the cost
if you're suffering from cancer and require a patent-protected drug, it's probably cheaper to buy some from the patent-holder than to set up your own lab and synthesize it at home
if you're trying to make money from your ability to synthesize a patent-protected drug in a clandestine lab, then you're almost certainly going to run into problems with the legal system

Yeah I realize it's completely uneconomical but I like the science aspect of it. That home brew morphine thing is also very cool.
I am thinking the most useful purpose for being able to make this stuff "at home" would be on a space station.
