I used an app for editing photos that gave a "blemish fixing" option which was the best blending tool I could find. Other than that I just cut the image to fit the face.

Yeah I get that but just saying "PICTURE IS TOO BIG" makes you sound like you're pretty far on the spectrum. You could just say "its too big so it looks like shit" that gets your point across a lot better, but thanks for the input!

That was a bad picture to use, next time pay attention to the color and shade of the shadows in both pictures.
That doesn't mean you can't reconstruct the colors.
Which might be complicated for a beginner, but, here.
Always remember when reconstructing color use 50/100 feather edges selection, then cut-paste and blend in with low opacity eraser afterwards.
Also, work on double/triple the resolution, then bring it back down to something close to 1000x1000, it hides minor flaws pretty well.

I would do all that if I could but I'm on mobile so I'm attempting to do best with what I have which is decidedly not much, in my opinion I feel I did better than some faceswaps that I've that make no attempt to try and make it look decent.
