You are Isolde of the Gwenn family, a little seven years old with a talent for magic. You have started your venture into spirit magic, befriending a ghost girl named Ilse that haunts the castle where you live.
However, that friendship is now threatened by the fact that she is telling you to leave her, most likely urged by the other ghost she just met.
You decide to comply for the time being. You have a hunch that there is some history being all of this.
"Okay, Ilse. Take care of yourself, all right?"
Ilse nods. "Don't worry about us. We aren't going anywhere anytime soon."
"Go away and leave us, you wretched human!" the older ghost hisses while hugging Ilse protectively.
You leave the maze, heading back to the castle and to your library.
Elves. You need to research about elves.
Your knowledge of them is only as far as that they are an extinct race, being gone for a millennium. They used to rule over the land, until the Hero rose up and overthrew them. making way for the humans. They are a haughty, powerful people, enslaving the humans with their magic powers. You see, back then, humans weren't able to cast magic at all. Only until the Hero shared the magic of the elves to all humans, human mages became a thing.
Nothing. You go through the books but you can't find anything specific. No history books that tell the details of those times. Only myths.
You know the ghost has a grudge against the humans that killed her, and as a human, she's not going to let you anywhere near Ilse, who may be her daughter or something, judging by how similar they look.
You have no idea how to proceed from this.

Someone must tell stories and old legends. Like a nan or veteran something. Chase up the story with them.

Ditch the ghost and find allies who are alive. We want to make all the land kneel to us, so we need supporters for our claims.

Maybe she's more mature than her age implies. Or she had a rolemodel she emulates - conquer everything, what does it mean? hm...
Or we can have a time skip - 10 years later and our power-hungry princess is all there, assassinating her rivals and gathering subjects.
You decide to let this matter go for the moment. You don't have enough options to go on. And Ilse seems happy, you think, if that was really her mother.
It's a shame you wouldn't be able to show her off to your father when he comes back tomorrow.
"Hmm, fascinating. I never knew we have any ghosts residing here, and elven ghosts at that."
It is his reaction after hearing your story at dinner tomorrow night.
Your father looks, and is, a middle-aged man, with black hair that you inherit, since your mother is blonde. He has a youthful quality to him that obviously attracted your younger mother to him. You don't know much about his work other than he often goes out of the country.
"If only your mother were here, you could've asked her about this. She was always the one fascinated with tales of the long past. Quite similar to you, dear."
Your mother is a person of immense beauty, and power. She may be the strongest mage in the entire kingdom, and she would have become the king's right hand magician if not for her wish to spend her days with her family instead. Unfortunately, she is still bound to the king's orders, and she is now currently away on his will.
"Did you meet Mama, Papa?" you ask.
"Yes, don't worry, my little. She is just fine. She still cannot go home though, not with how the Feridans are acting."
"What do you mean, Papa?"
"Oh, nothing you should concern yourself, dear."
You never like it when your father conceals something from you like that, just because you are a little girl.
"Oh, I nearly forgot," he continues, ignoring your pouting face. "Dear, do you want to go to school?"
"School, papa?" you reply, your bad mood overridden by your curiosity.
"Yes, school. Not just any school. I'm intending to enroll you to Starchild Academy, the best magic academy in Gaelia. With that level of spirit magic, I believe you will be able to fit just fine with the eleven years old there. It's your choice of course. If you prefer staying here, in this quiet castle, then I would not mind. I just think it's time you get some friends, and you seem to have an interest in learning magic."
A school, huh? You never think of yourself as an extrovert who would love making friends. And think of the age gap. They may belittle you just because they're four years older.
But you indeed have an interest in learning magic. And you shouldn't let anyone stop you from doing what you want.
>Attend the school. If you don't like it, you can just quit. A change of scenery may be nice too.
>Stay here, and ask your father to buy you more magic books instead. You prefer studying magic by yourself.

Hmm, yeah, only way to avoid that would be to either make the old elf ghost with so many years of resentment change her mind, or take our familliar away from that ghost. Both would be difficult to pull off.
Then it is decided. You're going to go to the academy. And you're going next week. You don't have to wait for the next term as your father can full some strings with the administration.
You go to tell this plan of yours to Ilse but when you go back to the maze, you can't find any trace of her or the older ghost. You guess Ilse lied about them staying there for a while.
The day of your departure comes. To your surprise, your maid Mary is coming too. Apparently, you will be staying in the comfiest boarding room in the academy, complete with a place for a live-in maid to stay.
"Isn't it wonderful, miss? We can be together as always!"
You suppose it will be handy to have her around.
The academy is located quite far south from where your castle is, in another territory in fact. It will take a full day to go there in a carriage.
The journey is quite tiresome. You can feel your butt hurting for sitting all the way through the bumpy ride. It is interesting though to see all the things you see on the road. All those houses and carriages. You have never been out from your castle after all.
"Umm, sir, can we please stop at the next resting house? I need... I mean, we need to take a little brick," Mary says softly to the carriage driver; a soft blush on her face.
Oh, Mary. It is so obvious what you want to do.
You're still thankful for that yourself though since you too have a need to relieve yourself.
As asked, the driver stops at the next resting house. In your estimation, you're about halfway to your destination.
Mary quickly goes off to take care of her business. You can still hold for a while though so you decide to go look around the place first.
The bar is pretty empty with only three people in it, one being the bartender himself.
>Ask for some info, though you doubt the bartender will take a child like you seriously.
>Grab a drink and attempt to eavesdrop on the two people having a conversation

You decide to eavesdrop on the conversation. Apparently, in Ferida, a revolution of sorts had just occurred. The commoners rebelled against their noble masters, executing all of them including their king and queen. And now, there are rumors they’re spreading discontent in Gaelia so that this kingdom will follow the same route.
A worrying rumor indeed. Maybe this is why your mother hasn’t been able to return home.
“Ah, there you are, miss. Enjoying a nice cup of milk, I see.”
Mary approaches from upstairs where she had done her business. You now remember that you too want to go there.
“Wait here, Mary,” you command her coolly, finishing off your drink before rising from your seat, walking towards the stairs.
“Oh, Miss needs to go too? I-I’m so sorry, Miss. You must be bursting. If a grown up almost didn’t make it, then you must have been leaking under that dress!”
You blush in anger hearing that. You refuse to be thought of as a little girl who can’t hold her bladder. And she just has to say it out loud like that.
“Don’t worry, Miss! I brought a change of underwear, just in case something like this happens!”
Your face can’t be redder as you walk upstairs.
The rest of your journey is relatively uneventful. You arrive at the last town before the academy at night, and Mary decides you will stay here until tomorrow morning. The academy is closed now after all.
After dinner, you wonder if you should take a little night stroll around or just go straight to bed.
>Take a stroll. The air seems nice tonight and it can be interesting to see how a town is at nighttime.
>Go straight to bed. You’re tired and you’ll need your full stamina for tomorrow.

>Go straight to bed. You’re tired and you’ll need your full stamina for tomorrow.

>Go straight to bed. You’re tired and you’ll need your full stamina for tomorrow.
You decide to go to sleep right away. You’re quite tired from the long trip and it’s more prudent to rest right away so that you will be at your peak tomorrow.
--------------
The first sight that greets you when you arrive is the tall white walls that surround the academy. It stretches to as far as the eyes can see. It is true then that Starchild Academy is as huge as a small town.
The carriage arrives at the massive wooden front gate. The gate is closed and you don’t see any guards. You don’t know how you’re supposed to-
“I-it opens! The gate opens by itself!” Mary proclaims.
She’s right. The gate just slides upwards as your carriage approaches.
“I’ve been here many times and I still can’t keep being awed by that,” the coachman remarks.
What lies beyond the gate is a huge plain that stretches as far as the eyes can see. You see a bunch of people in a crowd ahead.
“Well, this is as far as I’m going. You see those people? Those are your fellow mages, girl. And I reckon’ they’re doing something magicky there, and I don’t wanna get hurt.”
You and Mary leave the coach as instructed. You suppose normal people would be afraid of magic.
The coachman hurries back, and the gate slides back down after he leaves the premise.
“Well, miss, I suppose we’ll have to walk now,” Mary says. You can see that she’s quite uncomfortable by this situation, seeing how she has no idea what to do next.
You, on the other hand, are curious about “your fellow mages” as the coachman puts it.
“Mary, why don’t we go there for the time being?” you point at the crowd.
“Umm, I don’t know, miss. I think they’re doing their magic training now. You can get hurt if you get too close.”
>Do what Mary said. Observe them from a distance.
>Go in there and ask what they are doing.

Our MC Isolde isn't that timid and we didn't get here to stand in the background.
We also want to know who's strong and who's not (potential allies worth our time) - the training will get us a glimpse at least.
First chance we get, we will ask for Necromancy - we have ghosts, so that's why.

we're here to learn!
You decide to ignore Mary’s suggestion. No way you’re going to miss on a magic battle.
You run towards the crowds. Descending upon a slight hill, you see that in the middle of the crowd a pair of mages is standing against each other. The first one you see is a boy about your age, with a dirty blonde hair and a cocky smile on his face. The other one is a girl older than you, about 11 years old at your estimation. She has a flaming red hair and she seems really angry at the boy.
Finally reaching the crowd, you ask one of the mages there what is going on here.
“It’s The Royal Princess, Stella! She’s fighting against the new kid!” the hysterical-looking girl says.
The Royal Princess. The direct descendant of the king and queen of Gaelia. You remember your father saying she was a difficult child. So this is her in the flesh.
But her opponent? Who is he, you wonder?
You wade your way through the crowd until you get to the front seat.
“You will pay for humiliating me, you perverted brat!” the princess shouts.
“Heh, it’s not my fault you wear such a short skirt, miss white panties” the boy responds casually with a shrug.
“Y-you!”
You don’t approve of lifting girls’ skirts, but it is true the princess’ black skirt is pretty short, ending mid-tight. You would never wear something as shameful as that. The shortest dress you will wear ends right above your knees, just like the one you’re wearing right now.
“That’s it, I’m going to teach you a lesson, right here, right now! Come to me, my faithful familiar!”
The air suddenly grows in temperature. Flames start bursting out from the ground near where she stands. The other mages are slowly backing away, including yourself.
Then, the flames coalesce into a huge blob, before transforming into a gigantic flame lizard that lands on the ground with a tremor.
“Ruby, eat this little brat whole.”
The lizard roars before charging towards where the boy is standing. But he doesn’t move. He just stands there with a smirk on his face.
And then, just as the lizard is about to reach him, four hands made of water come rushing out from the ground, grabbing the lizard’s legs, immobilizing it completely. Then, the rest of the water envelops the lizard, dousing its flames. And with its flames gone, its power to stay solid vanishes, turning into dust (and mud) as a result.
Before the princess can even fathom on what just happened, a torrent of water comes out from the ground below her, dousing her as well.
“I win, princess. You shouldn’t have the mana to come back from an expensive spell like that.”
Seeing from the princess’ face, you see that she agrees with his assessment.
“Y-you just win because of your element. You too used a similar spell with mine, calling out water from the underground.”
“True, but I still spend less mana since my source is closer to the surface than yours. You should know that, princess. It’s basic stuff, you know. So, I now still have mana to finish you off, just like I did by sending you that torrent of water.”
Hearing that, the princess can only hang her head in shame. Truly, she has been defeated.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going back to my dorm. I’ve had enough fun for today. Tell the old coot I’m not participating in his boring basic lessons.”
Then, a ripple forms in front of him. He walks inside and poof, he’s gone.
You see the princess, still standing there with her wet clothes.
>Comfort her. Tell her you are fascinated with her magic and that you would love to learn from her.
>Leave her be. This is not your problem after all.

"Princess?"
The girl slowly looks towards you. You notice the tears forming in her eyes.
"You should not feel bad. That level of magic is impressive for an eleven year old."
It's true. She must have an insane mana capacity to be able to cast that.
"W-who're you?" she says between her sobbing.
"I'm Isolde of the Gwenn family." You curtsy. "Pleased to meet you, Princess Stella."
"You... I never saw you before. Are you... a new student perhaps?"
"Indeed, Your Highness. I just came here today actually."
"Just like him then... you're even of the same age..."
She averts her gaze from you, throwing it back down to the ground.
“Who is he, if I may ask?”
“I… I do not know, other than he just came here like you and that he came from some minor noble family I don’t even know the name of.”
You judge it’s futile to go further with this conversation. Time to change direction.
“Your Highness, if I may have a request?”
“W-what is it?”
“I want to become your pupil, Your Highness. Please teach me everything you know about magic.”
You then kneel in front of her, like a proper subject would do if she wants to ask for something from her queen.
Her reaction is of bewilderment at first, and then, amusement, until finally, laughter.
“Ahahahaha, oh, apologies. It’s just that you are so serious for such a young girl.”
There it is again.
“Oh, don’t be mad. Yeah, of course. I’ll be happy to teach you anything you want, Isolde-chan.”
...You don’t like being called that.
“Ah, Miss…”
You look behind you to see Mary standing nervously. You have totally forgotten about her.
“Shall we get going, Miss?”
Oh, that’s right. You’re going to meet with the headmaster.
“Your Highness, this is my maid, Mary. Mary, this is the Royal Princess Stella.”
Mary bows to the princess.
