/vp/-tan is a pair of twins because the Pokémon games are themselves "twins", and because they're themed after the choice of male or female protag in modern games.
Being twins doesn't really embody anything about /qst/. Lots of board-tans have companion characters though, and there'd be grounds for /qst/ having a group of friends who represent different kids of quest-players or something.

I should point out that although I'm not fundamentally opposed to the idea, there's not really much of a reason to do it. I mainly suggested it because I saw PoPnRX/Q saying that our singular board-tan should be female, which I disagreed with.
Sure, there's the concept of players choosing gender, but a lot of Questthreads are fundamentally different from traditional RPGs. That's why we got our own board. If there is a gender choice, as >>85641

I could get behind making the character slightly more gender ambiguous to reflect that such prominent aspect of player choice if the majority of people started seeing the character that way, but when it really comes down to it, I feel as if that takes away from the character.
One of my main jips with Undertale was that Toby felt the need to make the character gender ambiguous in the canon, because he thought that people would have trouble identifying with the character if their genders were different.

-It builds on past story elements in the board-tan setting
-/tg/ being a dad would let him approach moms more easily (we can figure out who /qst/'s mom is later, I'd go with /x/ because then we could have a "raised from the dead" story to explain where he's been)
-The sibling dynamic is rather played out with /v/, it'd give us new story opportunities to have a father/son duo who get along

The relationship between /tg/ and /x/ dates back to 2007 or 2008 I think. Maybe a year sooner, maybe a year later.
/b/ was raiding /x/, so any regulars from /x/ moved to /tg/ while it was happening.
In the board-tan setting this led to the two of them to begin dating.
This went on until 2011 or 2012 I think before /x/ had finally eroded away enough due to /b/ not leaving. The relationship was then depicted as on the rocks until they finally split.
In 2009 there was a plot where /x/ was pregnant with /tg/'s kid, but /b/ aborted that whole plot by ruining /x/.
Then /tg/ and /x/ turned into an annoying soap opera like quagmire where sometimes they were together and sometimes they weren't.
/tg/ started trying to date other people while /pol/ started filling /x/'s head with conspiracy theories, this lead to /tg/ failing to get with /po/ (origami), and then ending up spending a lot of time with /vp/.
Every so often someone will write a smut fic of /tg/ and /x/ getting back together, which in the board-tan setting is depicted as /d/ getting them to have sex.
/tg/ and /x/ were basically the super couple of the board-tans for a few years.
And /tg/-tan is depicted as about the same age as /co/-tan, who already has a kid who looks about the same age as /qst/-tan.

/tg/'s age might be an issue, but isn't it generally agreed /tg/ is about college age? If so, having a kid about 8 or 9 would mean that /qst/ was conceived when /tg/ was 14 or younger? Just saying.

This brings me to my next point: /tg/'s mom probably had him when she was relatively very young. His dad never stuck around. /tg/ grew up knowing hardship and having to make do because his mom was working all the time, so for a while it seemed like he was an only child.
Who's to say that after /tg/'s mom got well grounded in her career and things got stable that she didn't meet someone else and have /qst/? It happens more often than you would think.

Getting back together is cool if you work through your issues; but getting back together with someone just because she's your baby momma? That's a shitty idea. Sure. But so would being the cooler older brother. Growing up without a father, /tg/ could try to provide /qst/ with a role-model he never had -- and doubly so (no dad, no siblings). I think there are some women out there who would find that narrative compelling.
Single dad's who "approach moms easier" can be kind of sleazy sometimes, imo.
So the younger brother idea might be filling in some parts or making up backstory... But really how much do we know about these -tans' parents except maybe /pol/?

Generally /tg/-tan is depicted as being late 20s or older these days. Most board-tans seem to be getting older in their depictions unless their age is just set at "child".
Typically every sibling dynamic in the board-tan setting has them hating or annoying each other unless they're twins representing the same board.
Pretty much all the talk I've seen of /qst/ being /tg/'s brother up until this thread has been about how he will be an "annoying kid brother" type, which is something that's been done more than once already with board-tans.
Aside from board-tans who's parents are also board-tans, their parents have never been explored. It was never relevant since "moot did it" or "they budded off of /b/" was the go to response.
I'm not suggesting that /tg/ and /x/ get back together because of /qst/, the plot I'd follow for that is much more convoluted, but not any less convoluted than many other board-tan stories. I spin it that /qst/ was raised from the dead by /x/ and then dumped on /tg/. That's not any worse than /vp/ being /v/ and /a/'s butt babies that hatched from eggs they crapped out.
/tg/ feels more like a cool uncle type than a cool older brother type.
When talking about /tg/ hitting on moms, this is actually something /tg/ added into a setting /d/ was doing with their daughter character, Deelette (/d/'s the father, /co/lette, a /co/ OC not their board-tan, is the mother), at a monster kid school. /tg/ wanted to be involved and so some of them proposed a bit with /tg/ wanting to hit on the monster moms, but then getting distracted from that because he was having too much fun playing with the kids.
This is one of the nicer looking board tans that I've seen in a bit
