The time is December 12, 1942. The place is a hellish city known to most as Stalingrad. You are a German soldier.
You patrol a wide city street strewn with carnage. It smells like rot and the near-constant 88 fire is deafening, but you don't care because your mind is in a small German town called Kusel. You wonder if your girlfriend thinks about you as much as you think about her. You wonder if your friends have been shipped off like you have. In fact, you do so much wondering that you do not notice the flash 400 meters away that sends a bullet through your squadmate's heart.
The combination of your friend's scream, the rifle's crack, and your commanding officer yelling to get down snap you out of your whimsical daydreams and invite you back to the situation at hand. You quickly throw yourself into the cover of a collapsed store and attempt to return fire. Your efforts to suppress the unseen enemy are ineffective and you are forced to watch as your friends are cut down one by one. You realize you have been out of ammunition for quite some time. You throw down your gun and walk out to accept death.
Nothing happens.
You realize the sniper must have forgot about you while trying to keep track of the others.

You decide to:
>run back to base like a little bitch
>wait for the sniper to come collect tags
>go to the sniper instead
>off yourself
>have a mental breakdown

As well as:
>collect ammunition off the other MG42 guy who is dead
>ditch your MG42 for a K98
>ditch your MG42 for an MP40

Also you're a cute anime grill

As you cry at the loss of your friends, you find yourself suddenly filled with a sudden resolve and determination to kill the bastard who killed the only people you've known for the past year. After retrieving ammunition off of your fallen comrade Eva, who taught you how to survive the cruel Russian winter, you pick up the heavy weapon and begin to walk to the building you believe the sniper was in.
About halfway there you hear shouting from the road that runs parallel to yours. Upon closer inspection, you realize the voices are most certainly not German and they are heading to where you were. You are about to walk away when you realize the sniper might have joined up with that group of men.
Do you:
>investigate the voices
>rush back to the scene of the battle and set up your gun in case they come back
>ignore the voices and trudge on towards the building

You decide you want to see if the sniper is with this group of soldiers. You slip through a side alley and come upon a group of Reds marching along very slowly and singing some unintelligible rant, probably what they call "music". It sounds awful. You're glad you won't have to listen to their braying for very long. You manage to sneak up to a third story window only about 50 feet behind the slowest one. However, as you examine the group more thoroughly, you realize that there is not an enemy sniper present.
Fuck! Do you:
>mow down the commie bastards anyway

Filled with a burning desire to even the score, you shout, "Deutschland über alles!" When they all turn around, startled, you mercilessly cut them down one by one. The smoke drifting off your barrel makes it hard to see their screaming faces, a small comfort. Not a single soldier gets away. You fall back into the mansion and count your remaining ammunition. You only have 37 rounds left after this encounter, meaning you spent 82. That's one downside to your raifu's monstrous fire rate, but it doesn't matter because those bullets kill commies.
You realize you have probably attracted more attention than you already had. The sniper may be coming down on you at any moment.

You decide to:
>hide out in case Ivan is near
>risk being detected by leaving the building and retrieving ammo

If the latter, you may also:
>switch out your MG42 for a PPSh42
>switch out your MG42 for a nugget

Although you love it in a more than friends way, you decide it is time to ditch your MG42 and pick up a cooler ride. As you dig in the pockets of the soldiers you killed for food, tags, whatever, you pick up a PPSh42. You like the look of it and it's better than a Mosin at any rate. You are able to recover one 75-round drum magazine and two 20-round stick magazines.
Just as you lean over to search the last man's pocket a crack rings out and you see sparks fly on the pavement behind you. With no time to think, you dive behind the nearest cover, which happens to be a pile of concrete in the middle of the street.

How do you find your way out of this sticky situation?

You decide to grab a Mosin that you conviently find at your feet, just in case you need it later. You then toss one of your potato mashers and fire off a twenty round magazine in the sniper's general direction. He is suppressed sufficiently enough for you to make a mad dash into a nearby alleyway. You avoid a bullet to the foot by mere millimeters.

You think about tossing the other grenade, but you realize that you only have one left and you might need it later. You scan the alley again in hopes that something useful might magically appear, and lo and behold, there is a door leading to the building closest to the sniper. You say a quiet thank-you prayer and head inside. You sneak up to one of the windows facing the street and put the Mosin to use and make quick work of the sniper. You walk over to his body, filled with hate. To take out your anger, you kick his dead body a few times, but you aren't satisfied.
Hmm, you think about what would be the best way to desecrate his body...
>>
>>55330
strip it of any identifying things like tags or photos and letters and burn them

and then fuck up the face

>>
>>55330
Don't, as angry as you are this is war, it was his job to kill your friends as it was yours to kill him, wasting ammo or time on him wouldn't be a sensible choice, leave his body alone.

Instead try to restore contact with the rest of the 6th army.
>>
Strip him of his tags, pick up his sniper rifle and find a good vantage point.
>>
>>55351
>>55361
>>55388
>>55405
>>55477
Although your common sense and humanity tell you otherwise, you simply cannot let him go.
You decide the best way to torment him in the afterlife would be to strip his body of all identifying markings so that his family will never know what happened to him. As an added bonus you get to ruin his face until it's mush. You start by basting the meat with 5 rounds of 7.62x54mmR, then gently tenderizing it with your shoe until it has a gooey texture. You then pick up his Mosin with a shiny PSO scope and start to make your way back.
Due to the recent events, you haven't been paying much attention to the distant, but constant roar of war. Now, though, in the quiet streets of Stalingrad, you realize the cannons and guns are booming a few extra miles away. The front lines have definitely shifted. You realize you are trapped behind enemy lines. Low on rations and water, how do you plan to leave this godforsaken city?
>>
>>55479
try to circle back around the front line to get back on the German side of it
>>
>>55479
Find a proper tall structure from which you can easily escape, climb up and start picking off soldiers, and then attempt a desperate run in the opposite direction of the Russian guns.
>>
>>55479
Try to go in the opposite direction of the Volga, to the West or the South(although the West would be preferable), avoid the East and the North at all costs.
>>
>>55506
>>55507
>>55508
You climb to the top of a very tall building to get an eye on your surroundings, and have some very suicidal thoughts. You push these away, however, and locate your front lines as well as the Volga. You climb back down and begin trudging towards your lines.
Thirty minutes later, you realize it is beginning to get very dark. You worry about the possibility of stumbling onto a Red position without noticing or being ambushed in the darkness.

Do you push on or find a good hiding place to rest?
>>
>>55561
Push, sleeping in the middle of the battlefield would be asking for death.
>>
>>55561
Push on, push on!
>>
>>55567
>>55568
Worried about what might happen if you fall asleep, you keep going. You walk forever, but it seems like you aren't getting any closer. You feel your eyelids begin to close every once in a while without your permission. But you are determined to get back, as well as frighte- ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
You wake up and find yourself bound with rope and stripped of your weapons. You are in a cramped room, covered by a blanket, at least that's one positive point. Across from you sits a Red Army soldier, he is asleep and does not appear to be of special rank. At least he does not smell of rotting dog like the other Ruskies do. Your weapons as well as his are in a wrapped bundle that he is using as a pillow.

How do you escape this predicament?
>>
>>55678
Look for something to cut the rope on
>>
>>55678

Look for glass, sharp rocks, anything to cut the rope.
>>
>>55684
>>55744
You attempt to use the broken window above his sleeping corpse to slice the ropes in half, but you accidentally kick and wake him. "Get out of the window," he says in heavy English, "they may see!" You look up and realize that there is a large concentration of Reds barely two blocks away. You quickly lower yourself to your original position beneath the windowsill. "I am Yuri," the most likely retarded Slav says. Yuri explains that he is a librarian from Kiev who was conscripted. He claims that he is educated and not evil, unlike the others. He noticed you staggering along drunkely and he knew that if his comrades found you, horrible things would be done. So he knocked you out and tied you up so you could not kill him when you woke up. He says he can not let you go unless you help him escape the city so he can go back to his home in Kiev.

Do you believe him?
>>
>>55772
Agree to help him
>>
>>55789
He sounds honest enough, so you agree to help him. He suggests, however, that you only move after nightfall to make sneaking past rapists easier. You look out the window, it appears to be roughly 7:00 A.M. You have an entire day to pass. The two of you talk to pass the time. He reveals that he enjoys card games, which is convenient, considering you happen to have a deck you brought from home. You play for a while before getting bored. Then you clean your weapons for a while. Then you talk some more. Then you eat and talk some more. You glance back up at the sun, only 5 hours have passed.

What do the two of you talk about to pass time?

That was supposed to be before I turned her into a cute mango but whatever
You bring up your girlfriend back home and how she's so cute and adorable and she's so smart and well she's practically your girlfriend but you haven't really technically asked her out but when you get back you are going to and you know she'll say yes because you're a brave war hero and at this point you're pretty much just babbling anyway so you shut up and let the other guy talk. Oh wait, he's half asleep. You feel offended that be didn't listen to your onslaught and kick him in his shin. He doesn't pay attention to you as he's too busy staring out over the window. You ask him what he's looking at. He turns back to your with a pale face and gestures for you to look out as well. You do and there in the street is a line of Heer soldiers marching to the front lines. You realize due to the more organized nature of the Wehrmacht sneaking out will be much harder. You then also realize you are no longer obligated to help him go back to his home, as you are behind your lines.

Do you decide to:
>abandon him and let him try to escape on his own
>turn him in and tell the commanders about his situation, they might be sympathetic and let him go

You decide that you want to help him escape anyways. After all, he seems really nice and he saved you from an encounter with drunk smelly Russians. As night approaches, you find a K98 and ditch the Russian guns. It'd be less suspicious if they could a random soldier wandering about with German guns than commie guns, right? Anyway, you both sneak out of the building and begin walking. You only make it a few miles before an armored convoy comes rumbling up the road. You are forced to hide in the shadow of a concrete barrier. It's a tight fit, but it works, and you go unnoticed. Also, you think he squeezed your boob. The rest of the way out of the city is monotonous walking. Eventually, though, you make it out. You forgot how good it felt to breath something other than gunpowder. You are kinda tempted to go back home, but you could be tried for treason.

Unaware of the Sixth Army's impending doom, you decide to head back to your Kameraden to help fight the good fight. When you get back to the front lines, you search for remnants of your unit, but to no avail. Instead you just hook up with the nearest unit to pass by. Once you get to the front lines, you remember how much you hate this place. You literally cannot breathe, the atmosphere is choked with the stench of gunpowder and blood. You find it ironic that the brass cares so much about a stinking pile of dirt. One day, as you are retreating from an attack, a shooting pain suddenly runs up your leg. A quick glance down reveals a bullet hole in your calf. None of the members of your squad even attempt to help you. You try to run but you cannot. The best you can do is crawl backwards into a foxhole. You lie down and cover yourself with mud, in the hope that they will think you are dead. However, as one walks over you, you realize that this unit is also cute anime grills.

Do you surrender? Since this unit is cute anime grills like you, they probably won't rape you to death and shove a bayonet up your vagina if they find you. On the other hand, you will almost definitely go to gulag.

Nope, the Russkies operated forced labor camps for POWs whose conditions were even worse than those of the Gulags, of the 91,000 German soldiers captured in Stalingrad, only 5,000 survived.

A choatic multitude of opposing thought processes run through your head. By the time you finish processing them all, the grills are long gone. Exhausted and generally done with everything, you doze off.
When you wake, the sky is clear again. The smell of gunpowder is gone, but the stench of rot remains. Once again you manage to get yourself trapped behind enemy lines. Unbeknownst to you, this is a huge blessing in disguise. You are not behind enemy lines, but rather outside of the enemy circle.

You stop in a small bar in some nameless Russian town and you manage to communicate well enough that the bartender understands that you want vodka. You down six shots before the cumulative effect of tiredness and vodka takes in.

You look around and make an assessment of your immediate area. You appear to be in small wooden cottage, no more than 20'x30'. The owner's taste in decor would lead you to believe that he is a poor farmer or possibly a hunter. The cramped shack only has one exit in the form of a scraggly wooden door. You arm yourself with the nearest sharp object, which happens to be a small hunting knife, in case someone decides to come in univited. A sudden shuffling outside the door alerts you to someone's presence. You quickly jump back into bed and pretend to be asleep.
Just as you do, a political commissar of the Red Army steps through the threshold followed by two soldiers. You see the commissar hand the probable owner of this cottage a few coins and shoo him out the door. The commissar approaches the side of the bed, and prods at you with the barrel of his 1895. You turn over, feigning grogginess. He yells at you to get up.

What do?
>>
>>57777
Get up and comply for now.

You decide to do what the commissar says for the time being. You sit up in the bed and begin to pull on your boots. The commissar yells at you to hurry up or he will shoot. You stand up and the commissar walks out of the building, gesturing for you to follow. You do and the guards file in behind you.
After about twenty or so minutes, you find yourself at a train station. The commissar is nowhere to be seen at the moment, and the guards are more relaxed, their weapons shouldered. You figure that is you were going to attempt something, now would be the time.

Try to loose them, either by weaving around any nearby trains, or running into a crowd if there are any around.

You glance back at the guards to make sure they aren't watching, and slip underneath the train currently stopped at the station. From behind you you hear the guards shouting something. They were quicker to respond than you thought they would be. You dash and weave in between trains, trailed by the sound of gunfire.
Eventually you make it out of the train yard and come upon a thicket of woods. You realize it would probably be a good idea to stay away from any towns while you only have your uniform. However, you have no food or weapons to hunt with. Although you are full and rested now, you will not be after walking for a few hours, and you have a long way to go to Kiev or Germany.

What do you do next?

Forage for some food for a long journey and then start trying to make it back to your hometown.

Stealthily return to the train station to look for food or weapons

After the train leaves, you head back to the train station to see if you can scrounge up any supplies. Fortunately, the area is empty of people. On the other hand, you find as many supplies as you do people. You manage to scrounge together enough food for maybe 4 days, if you only ate twice a day.
You begin to head out in a westward direction, towards home. A quick calculation tells you that with some luck, you'll make it back in about two weeks. As you continue to walk, however, you notice the language on the signs changes very slightly. A quick interrogation of a farmer on the road tells you that you are in the Ukraine, which puts you farther north than you thought.
You also know a lot of Ukrainians hate the Russians, and that this is German-occupied territory. However, if you attract too much attention, might be discovered by the police and executed for desertion.

Do you:
>attempt to hitch a ride with a local, you won't know if they are Russian or German sympathetic
>keep walking

Might as well try our luck

Keep walking. Try and make a simple bow with your hunting knife. I can find diagrams if you need it.

Keep walking.

As the option that's least likely to get us killed, lets go with walking.
