Welcome to legacy quest, a dungeon crawling adventure spanning several generations of heroes.
Your protagonists will die, permanently, but fear not! Before each hero embarks on their quest to free the land from evil, they marry and have children, ensuring their bloodline will not die with them, and providing the next intrepid adventurer to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors when they come of age.
Unfortunate and stupid heroes might face insta-kills, unwinnable situations, and general doom. The best and brightest will slowly progress through the dungeon, but will still likely face their inevitable death.
No one hero will beat the dungeon, only by building up a strong family of heroes, investing in your hometown/stronghold to acquire better resources, passing down knowledge, wealth, and loot.
Last time on legacy quest: >>324823
>We met our new hero: Erika, daughter of Aurora
>Erika chose a scoundrel for a husband, advised the town to hoard food for the coming winter, and entered the dungeon.
>Using her mighty berserker strength she pulverised her undead foes, and continued onward, mostly unscathed.
>She emerged into the next room...
>>335193
Whelp, go to desk. Again.
>>335193
Was there a reason to make a new thread? Your old thread is not even in autosage yet
>>335203
He goofed, that happens I guess.
>>335203
He wanted to avoid autosage midsession because of how old the thread was
>>335200
Although I'll wait for three bumps before we kick off, I'll go ahead with this suggestion from the last thread.
You walk over to the desk, and find a note:
Greetings hero, and welcome to this delightful room of mine!
There will be none of those undead minions, pesky goblins, or prickly spindlemen in here, only you and your intellect (or lack thereof).
To leave safely, you must merely reach the exit before your time runs out. Sounds easy? Well, it's not just your standard corridor. Once you head towards the exit, you may find that the corridor grows longer before your very eyes!
If you fail to exit before I grow bored of you, I will drop a large anvil on your head, or something similar.
Best wishes,
- The Trickster
>>335203
>>335208
Yup, just OP making a dumb mistake.
Looking around, you find a small egg timer. The sand within it looks to have recently started pouring...
>>335213
Walk towards the door but don't look at it.
>Once you head towards the exit, you may find that the corridor grows longer before your very eyes!
>grows longer before your very eyes!
>before your very eyes!
>EYES
>>335213
Write on the parchment
>HA changed your name I see.. Tired of being mocked? :^)
>Turn around and moonwalk to the door on the other side of the room
>>335219
Agreed
>>335242
well then close the eyes
and do the writing on the paper
>>335219
>>335231
>>335237
With the egg timer in hand, you start towards the exit, eyes closed. A few seconds later, you bump into something... The door out of the room. Guess that corridor wasn't so long after all...
You look around the room, and see a small wooden chest, as well as the door.
What do?
>>335242
Love it.
>>335255
Loot
>>335255
Loot
also did we write it on the note? or can we do that quickly now?
>>335260
Second
>>335260
This
>>335261
Oh I forgot to mention your snide comment on the note. Of course you did it. What descendent of Svard would miss an opportunity to insult the Trickster?
You open the chest, and find 5 GP and 3 throwing knives , along with a note.
"That puzzle was incredibly easy!" you say? True. That makes it twice as funny that your dim witted mother nearly died trying to solve it.
Perhaps that phenomenal sort of stupidity skips a generation... You've just got the normal kind.
Enjoy your reward,
- T
Move onward?
>>335283
Thats better

Move onward

You won Op
Supporting votes? If it stays quiet I'll just go with >>335298 this.
>>335320

>>335341
Forgot about that. Take a good sippy.
We still in rage mode? I vote to calm down.
>>335341
Drink up.
>>335341
We can decide on the next room. She dont know if enemies will be there.
>>335341

>>335357

>>335352
>>335353
>>335354
You down another flask of ale, to ease the pounding in your head, and emerge into the next room.
You enter the next room... You haven't ever seen such a stereotypically dungeon-like, dank and decrepit place... The space around you is small, musty, and dark. The only light comes through chinks in the wall in front of you, and from some strange looking luminous fungi.
They light the room up just enough that you can see an abundance of spiderwebs across the walls, a long-dead rat in a cluster of the glowing plants, a human skeleton, and an old wooden door ahead of you.
What do you do?
>>335367
Check the light cracks in the wall to see if yiu can see the other side
>>335367
Search momma.
Search the rat.
>>335367
Examine skeleton
>>335367
Listen to the door.
>>335385
Just roll OP
>>335385
To defend my point, I don't want to be surprised by anything that could be behind that door while doing something else.
>>335367
Just do all of them.
>>335385
first look through door cracks
Second quietly check body
>>335367
Check the skeleton.
>>335399
Well, starting with the non-committal options then:
Briefly inspecting the rat, you find nothing more than an old skeleton and a slightly gnawed mushroom.
You walk across to the human skeleton. A few strands of copper hair cling to the mostly decayed head, and suddenly it hits you. This is your mother.
Slowly and carefully, you search her body.
Roll a d20 to see how much of her gear you're able to recover!
Rolled 12 (1d20)
>>335411
We'll make you proud mom.
Rolled 7 (1d20)
>>335411
>>335411
Can we set the body on fire ? She deserves that.
>>335434
You could do if you so desired. Svard II sent Svard I's remains back to the village, by taking them to the next portal. I'll let you guys decide.
>>335417
Some of your mother's items have been destroyed by hungry critters, or taken by scavengers, but you find some useful items, notably the spindle flail held protectively in her arms.
You also find unused parchment, a stick of charcoal, and a full metal helmet which unfortunately berserkers can't use.
What next?
>>335448
Listen closely to the door. Maybe try to peek inside through the cracks.
Also, if anybody wants to switch weapons:
>Sleepyfire - 1d3+1 damage, +1 to hit
>Spindle mace - 1d5 damage, 19-20 crit range
No dual wielding thoughyet.
>>335448
Compare weapon stats.
>>335450
Change to mace
>>335455
I'm starting to regret having brought sleepyfire
>>335457
It saved us on the 1st room.
>>335449
>>335404
>>335373
Seeing as there have been a few votes for this now:
You creep to the chinks in the wall, and peer through...
You see three large orcs, huddled around a campfire. They're talking quietly, and drinking wine from a large barrel.
>>335461
I see 2 options
>knock on door, one of them is bound to come open, take him down by surprise so only 2 left
>Enrage, kick door down, wreck shit
What do you guys think? We also have the throwing daggers, dont forget.
>>335461
Pluck some poisonous mushrooms and drop them in the wine barrel while no one is looking.
>>335468
THIS
>>335482
We are not stealthy
>>335468
>>335482
>>335483
That's three!
You have an idea... The mushroom seems a little dangerous, and you might just be able to slip some into that wine barrel. As much as you hate to miss a chance to charge in screaming, you feel that it might help even the odds.
Before we attempt anything:
>Sleepyfire or Spindleflail?
>Rage or Calm?
>>335499
flail, rage
>>335499
Spindleflail, Calm
>>335499
Flail and calm. Cant sneak while pissy
>>335501
This
>>335448
Burn the body, but keep the helmet as a souvenir that you'll send to the village.
(I might be a bit late)
>>335499
Just realised if we poison the wine we cant drink it after
>>335501
>>335503
>>335507
Majority gets it, seeing as it's a little slow...
You heft your mother's flail, and calm your mind. Cautiously you break off a piece of the mushroom, reach through the largest crack in the wall, and crumble it into the barrel of wine.
Roll a d20 to see what happens. Results are hidden!
>>335499
No poison, flail, rage.
Rolled 19 (1d20)
>>335517
Let's pray
>>335522
We almost killed them
>>335522
Fuck yes
>>335522
Amen.
>>335522
Triple dubs and a 19. Svard II is watching over you it seems.
Moments after you drop the glowing fungus into the barrel, one of the orcs gathers up his comrades tankards, and fills them all up. He returns to the campfire and hands them out.
"A toast," he growls, "to the Shadow! Long may his reign last!" The other orcs cheer, and they all drink.
A few tense minutes later, you hear more chatter:
"My belly feels funny..." The armoured one mumbles.
"Stop complaining. You're probably just hungry... You've got your rations, although I grant you they taste like shit. I'd kill for another of those delicious pinkskins! You remember that?! Hell, I'd even settle for one of those scrawny gob-" he's cut off half way through by a jet of vomit erupting from his mouth.
A couple of messy minutes later, two orcs lie dead on the floor, with the last one gibbering incoherently about the flying mice which are apparently going to eat him.
What do you do?
>>335543
Finish it.
>>335543
FINISH HIM
>>335547
This
>>335543
Kill it
>>335543
Hahaha feels bad, Greenskin scum :^)
Stab him in side of his chest and hit his kidneys so he bleeds out and dies really painfully.
THEN LOOT TIME
>>335543
I feel so dumb not realising the obvious choice OP gave us the first time we got to this room...
The orc moves clumsily, and you're ready for combat seconds before him:
8 AP (no rage)
What do?
>>335610
Hit,Hit,Block
>>335610
Triple hit, block
>>335620
I mean with 8 AP you can move closer, hit three times, and block. I'll assume that's what you meant, unless there are other options suggested.
>>335624
No this is good
>>335624
Oh, I assumed block took 2AP, well, approach, triple then block.
Rolled 14, 11, 14 = 39 (3d20)
>>335636
>>335639
Nice.
>>335639
Sweet, roll 3d5 for damage. You'd have to be supremely unlucky to leave this poisoned orc alive now...
>>335652
dice+3d5
Rolled 1, 5, 4 = 10 (3d5)
>>335656
Shit I can't even do that properly. Doing it properly now.
>>335660
Good job
>>335640
Damn, these are great anon! At this rate we'll have a comic strip documenting Erika's adventures!
>>335656
>>335660
Well, you made up for it with some nice rolls!
You knock the orc off balance with your first blow. As he falls to one knee, you whirl your flail overhead, until it's a humming blur of orange spikes. Finally, you end his life, beating him to a bloody pulp with two savage strikes...
What now?
>Loot orcs
>Take mother's bones
>Burn mother's bones (as much as you can make bones burn...)
>Other? Write in with ideas!
You have time, so multiple options is fine.
>>335666
Loot ores
Carry mothers bones
Check unopened barrel
Maybe carefully bring some mushrooms for the trip
>>335666
Loot orcs, pack bones so we can bring them to sanctuary. Gramps would want this
>>335669
This
Loot barrels as well.
>>335668
>>335669
>>335675
You loot the orcs, and find 7 GP, two orcish cleavers, a mace, metal scraps (3), and leather scraps . You carefully wrap your mother's remains in some of the leather scraps.
The second barrel has been drained of wine, and is empty. You carefully pick a little more of the fungus, and store it in one of your empty flasks.
>Anything else?
>Journey onwards?
Next room will be last room for today guys!
>>335690
Awe. We cant loot the orc pauldrin?
>>335690
Let's get a move on
>>335690
>Journey onwards
>>335696
Orc armour doesn't fit you, so it ends up as metal scraps, I'm afraid! On the bright side, you can make interesting things with it!
>>335698
>>335701
You leave the room behind you, somewhat proud that you've surpassed your mother, but sad nonetheless that she ended up as lunch for some thuggish orcs.
After nearly an hour of walking, you reach the door to the next room. Before you enter:
>Sober/Drink last ale
>Rage/Stay calm
>>335707
Sober/Calm
>>335707
Sober, no rage
>>335707
Sober calm
>>335711
>>335712
>>335714
>>335715
Remarkably restrained of you!
You walk into the next room with a slight headache, but feeling determined.
With a puff of red smoke, a scroll appears and unfurls in front of you:
Seeing as you've done so well on the last puzzle, and you have a habit of defacing my scrolls, I will refrain from leaving you any clues here. Find your own way across, but be careful! Mistakes may be costly!
- T
The scroll disappears as soon as you've read it. Apparently the Trickster doesn't like being called names...
>>335731
Spoilered for those wanting to figure out themselves.
>>335739
What gave you this conclusion?
>>335752Squares before each number
>>335739
I'm for this, I found the same thing.
>>335731
Boy i feel dumb. 3 people seem to get it, but i dont understand
>>335739
Found that aswell.
>>335768
Sure. Simce everyone is confident. Still dont get it
>>335768
There's 2 paths from 3---8 assuming my guess is correct. Dunno if flaw or if we gonna get burned.
Also this would be my proposition for the puzzle. The Trickster would leave an extra phrase on the message
>Look ahead before you start your journey.
>>335786
Follow the yellow line. Count the number of squares until you reach each number.
Ooooh. I get it now :) wow im a doof
Wait one sec
>>335731

This was quite the abrupt stop to the quest. Weird.
>>335910
Op is a busy guy.
>>335799
We are still waiting for this faggot.
>>335923
Yep. I trust this anon.
No worries Op you put alot of time into your quest and it shows.
>>335934
Cheers dude.
You cautiously begin across your chosen path, confidence building as lightning bolts fail to rain down upon your head.
At last, you reach the other side of the room, and smile to yourself.
What now?God damn it anons, can't you at least pretend to find it hard! Seriously, well done though.
I think I'll struggle to get a puzzle with a difficulty as well balanced as the very first one.
>>335982

>>335982
Loot chestDifficulty was actually fine, but we can't help if we have the sparkle that makes everything clear
>>335991
Nah, it was a good suggestion. Unfortunately it's viewable to all anons now! I was thinking if I get really stuck for puzzles in the future I might ask a few puzzley anons like yourself for suggestions via direct messaging the @LegacyQuestOP twitter.
>>335991
>>336013
>>336030
You open the old chest, and find inside an inferno flask , a kind of throwable explosive device. Very rare, and very dangerous, the art of making these has supposedly been lost to the ages.Single use AoE grenade
You also find 6 GP , and a note:
Congratulations hero,
You're certainly much more fun than your mother was. I hope you'll go on to entertain me as much as your grandfather did! Give him my regards, should you ever speak to him again.
Please enjoy this most amusing toy. A word of advice, throw it at things that aren't standing next to you. This might not be obvious to one of your (severely) limited intellect.
- T
Anything else before continuing onwards (and ending today's journey)?
>>336086
Since the message didn't disappear, write "urd" after the "T".
Then, continue onward.
>>336092

I think defacing the note wins! But for once, some people wanted to be polite. What the hell is going on?!
You write yet another insult on the note, and chuckle at the absurdity of this particular family tradition.
Once again, you delve deeper into the dungeon...
TO BE CONTINUED...
Thanks for playing guys, hope you had a good time. Sorry it got a bit fragmented at the end, I had to do a few other things, and QMing this requires a surprising amount of effort, it's pretty tricky to multitask it. Thanks to all you loyal anons, I should be back tomorrow. Same thread this time.
>>336242
Looking forward to it.
In my mind, the Trickster hates his brother Shadow. So we might find a valuable ally in the long term. Like this time he gave us something nice!
>>336242
Cya then~
Where dat Op at
>>337772
There isn't a specific hour. Just be patient.
>>337772
>>337815
Thanks for waiting anons, OP is here! I don't give a specific hour at the moment, as it can be hard to keep to with other things going on in my life. @LegacyQuestOP twitter usually announces when we're about to kick off though if you're interested.
Waiting for 3 bumps to try to finish this level of the dungeon.
>>337827
Don't be forced to set up a schedule.
I usually have an alert on my phone for the threads on /qst/ anyway.
>>337827
yay, i'm here
>>337833
Yeah, fortunately a lot of people use thread watcher apps now. I don't think I'd be able to set up (and keep to) a schedule anyway. For me it can be pretty difficult to balance seeing friends, doing exercise, and actual chill time with QMing something that requires drawing. God knows how I'll manage when I start my PhD. Welp.
No regrets though, it's quite fun running a quest.

Wahoo, we're alive.
You descend down the seemingly endless stairs, once again. "I wonder how far down this dungeon goes?" you ponder.
Finally, you reach the door to the fifth room of this level. Before you open it:
>Drink final ale/Stay sober
>Induce rage/Stay calm
For anybody who's relatively new, Erika is a berserker character who can enrage herself for a meaty attack and health boost, at the cost of defence. She also has an alcohol problem, and suffers reduced action points if she's sober, but gets a slight defence and crit bonus if drunk.

That's three for calm then (kind of).
You savour the last of your ale, but remain calm as you enter the fifth room of this level of the dungeon.
Before you, the majority of the room is filled with a thick black mist. It defies explanation. You can't see anything contained within it, but you get a sense of the size of the area it covers and you can see the exit beyond it.
As you attempt to focus on the vision obscuring smoke, your head swims, and you feel dizzy. You never had much of a knack for magic, but you feel that this is some pretty powerful stuff.
>What do?

>>337915

>>337924
You tie some scraps of leather around your mouth, wary of the mist, and head over to the desk. You find a note:
Hero, I must apologise for this room. Whilst I have a fine sense of sportsmanship, my sibling does not. He does not appreciate tests and challenges, preferring to "make them suffer", "end them", "make them rue their very existence", and other trite nonsense like that.
In short, the philistine has no sense of fun, and just wants to see you dead. However, as much as I'd prefer a test of wits rather than this need for copious amounts of blind luck, I can't interfere too much in his business.
I would advise you to watch where you tread, and have left you this rather fun enchanted parchment that will map your steps. You'll likely still die in here, but I wish you the best.
It would be much more fun to watch you fall through a trapdoor into molten lava after failing to grasp the solution to a trivial puzzle, after all.
- The Trickster
>What now?
>>337927
The cloak has no stat boosts, it's just a plain old cloak at this point. Perhaps a bit of crafting could help with that. I guess it can be equipped now, but there's not much point.
>>337939
Pick up parchment, shout some insults about trickster's brother's insecurities and try to feel with your weapon what's in the mist
>>337939
Push the table into the mist to see what happens.
>>337939
Examine scroll. If nothing relevant, approach the mist.
>>337950
>>337953
You take the parchment, and notice two little footprints standing in one corner of what must be a bird's eye view of the room. They seem to move as you do. The parchment offers you no clue as to what's in the fog though.
>>337952
You attempt to shift the table, but it's extremely heavy. It's a big table.
>>337950
>>337953
You approach the mist, and wave your flail about in front of you. It meets no resistance, and feels as if it were in any other part of the room. You get the sense that the mist is some kind of extremely potent illusion, but still, you can't see through it.
>>337960
Well walk in the wist waving the flail in all direction including towards the floor because who the fuck knows if there's a floor here ?
Step into the mist. 5th tile from the top.
>>337979
Seconding this because we gotta take the first step no matter what.
I guess inside the mist we can only see our own square and the adjacent ones or something.
>>337979

Atleat we dont need to roll for damage, the crit does the job.
>>338074
With a crit range of 19-20 on that flail, the spindleman is dead without any further need to roll. Next level of the dungeon is going to have some big mean bastard's to counter all this bullshit luck. :^)
You shatter the carapace of the spindleman, and loot it for two spindles and a strip of spiked carapace .

You stumble upon two spindlemen chittering to each other. Seeing as you didn't alert them with your flail, roll to see if they notice you immediately!

D-did I just kill Erika with a 1 HP spindleman? I actually feel bad.
In a burst of unstoppable fury, the spindleman you thought would give up and die leaps towards you and obliterates your defences. You look down, and see blood... So much blood.
Final Action
>Throw map towards entrance of the room
>Shield one item from scavengers/critters
>Other?
Originally when Erika died she was going to have a rage based "Last Stand" where she'd get a chance to complete the room with her final +2 HP... But she'd still be dead with +2 HP.
Fuck, really sorry guys. I liked this character.
>>338249
This.
So I'm gonna vote to save our spindleflail. Since sleepyfire has a higher chance to turn up again.
Also, this nearly dead Spindleman has just earned a Shadow of Mordor style promotion. Expect to see him in the future.
>>338255
I think unique weapons are generally more inclined to turn up eventually, but no guarantees it will be as soon as you hope.

>Shield one item from scavengers/critters
>Last stand, attempt to complete the room with (-1 +2 = 1) 1 HP. You will die at the end of the room, with no chance for a further final action (unless you find some powerful healing gear).

I'm gonna need a day just to swallow this shit.
>>338284
We lose the flail if we use last stand... but at this point it might be cursed
It looked so good too. Geez. Farewell Erica!
Looks like people are pretty shell-shocked at that sudden turnaround. I'll go andd grab lunch while you guys debate how whether we should try to save our child from the dangerous route across the room we took, or whether we should try and save them a magic/useful item. Bear in mind that you'll still get a chance to roll for how much of Erika's inventory is lost if/when her descendants find her body.
>>338284
Last stand.
>>338295
Soo if we last stand...
I'd say either.
Whirl (instakill weak spindle) then att twice and def.
Or try to outrun them. Then use throwing knives and aoe grenade to try and take em out.
>>338307
Outrun them into the mist? Terrible idea.
>>338314
I am partial to the first option, but unless the room is magick'd to be bigger we should be able to run west without encountering anything. Since the only enemy we saw in that direction was the spindleman we killed.
>>338293
Last stand. I vote for moving around the mist and checking what the black thing from before was.
If we are dying anyway better know what to expect for next time.
>>338330
If we cant transmit the info to the next generation we are never assured to find the same thing again.
>>338330
I have a feeling it's the boss...
Im worried about our good weapons. If we fuck up a roll by doing this Last Stand stuff we are fucked
>>338284
Shield flail.
Last stand is useless, Even if by a miracle we clean the room we die before reaching the sanctuary.
Last stand would leave you with 1 HP to kill these guys. Assuming you got to the end of the room alive I'd let you throw the map and shield a weapon before dying, but with 1 HP this is pretty risky. If you died from further injury you would get no further final actions whatsoever.
As >>338335 said, the room will probably be different unless you communicate what you've found to the next generation, so you won't gain any advantages by using last stand to metagame.
Last stand is really much more useful in a situation where healing is an option, but you are still free to use it if you like.
If we don't see some consensus soon I'll have to roll, which could end horribly.
>>338366
No to last stand
>>338366
I can't even decide, I'm too much let down by those events
>>338366
Last Stand is gonna fuck us over like barging through the door with Aurora did. No. No last stand
>>338366
Last stand. I want revenge.
Right from the looks of it, the conservative option of shielding the flail takes it by a whisker. Cmon anons, don't be too down! You can always avenge Erika with her child! As I said, this badly injured spindleman will be making another appearance. I was originally going to call an end to it today after completing this room, but just to cheer you all up I'll stay long enough to roll up our new hero.
You drop to your knees, your life draining from you, and spilling onto the floor. You clutch your flail to your chest tightly, as your mother did before you, and feel a moment of kinship, almost peaceful, as the fire that burned within you flickers, and fades...I'm sorry for your loss anons.
Much like Svard I, she was a bold hero, fated to die in battle against enemies she couldn't be ready for.
>>338430
>fated to die in battle against enemies she couldn't be ready for
That's a fancy way to spell RNG.I like it, from the start the quest was about dying a fuckton of times.
>>338430
I went for a run outside, now I'm dying from heat.
Consider >>338262
as fanart I guess, that death was really unfair.
Anyway it wasn't done to piss you off, it's more a reference to the "Fuck You OP" difficulty, but "OP" couldn't fit.
I'd rather roll a new hero tomorrow, it'd suck to roll one, and not to go to adventure.
>>338440
Yeah, to be honest several of the rooms are designed to be a real challenge to get through alive, and strongly encourage working to give your descendants a better chance than you had. The spirit tomb and this one being strong examples.
I'll wait for bumps from three different anons before rolling up the new hero, just in case everybody has ragequit.
Just updated and saw we have three bumps, but one of you doesn't want to roll up new guy now. What's the majority opinion.
>>338447

Right now I dont see a single hero going through these 3 fight rooms without healing or a miracle. Even if they bypass the orc room like we did.
Sure, let's roll a new hero. We can start next session by diving right into the dungeon.

Ready to begin?
The child of Erika the Furious, you grew up in a time known as The Long Winter. On your mother's word, food was prioritised over everything else, so you never went hungry, and grew up a strong young thing. The damaged buildings offered your people little in the way of shelter though, and many townsfolk got sick and died over the course of your childhood... But now you've come of age, a grown:
>1 - Man
>2 - Woman
More than this, those living in the worst affected areas have sunk to crime as their way of dealing with their anguish. Thanks to your father's reputation as a thief, and your grandfather's position as the head of the militia, you've been able to blend in with most social circles in Angorvil.

Your name is Willow, known affectionately by your family as "Wisp", for your habit of appearing unnoticed and causing mischief. Your shadier of friends know you as "Dubs", for reasons you can't quite remember, although it might have been something to do with the number of females in your family doubling the damned female population of the village!
You've always been a sneaky one, but what's your specialty?
>Assassin - You arrive in the shadows, and hope to kill your opponents in one deadly strike.
>Scoundrel - Although sneaky, you're also at home in a brawl, you fight dirty, and use nasty tricks to blind, cripple, and injure your enemies.
>Enigma - Confusion is your main weapon. Magic that lay dormant in your mother has come to life in your blood, and you channel it into illusion and confusion. There are rumours you pay tribute to The Trickster as well as the Light, but who knows whether they're true...

Don't worry anon, they're probably just rumours!
You're up early today, wandering aimlessly around the town as the sun rises.
Eventually, you bump into Old Man Svard by the river. He's ancient now, but still radiates authority, to the extent that even at your most mischievous you listen carefully and act politely when he talks.
"Ah, my child..." he sighs, "I remember this day dawning on me, so many years ago. I can only pray that you will be as fortunate as myself and dear old Kazgrub."
He recounts his experiences to you, and you find yourself lost in his words, until hours later, he cuts off:
"Come, it is time to meet your suitors."
Ready to choose anons?
>>338729
I'll try it out. A girl like this probably has a whole bunch of disguises anyway.
>>338740
He also doesn't give a hoot what happens to you, and just wants to entertain himself. You'd have to be very careful when dealing with him...
>>338751
Of course
>>338751
Yeah man.
>>338740
Oh, I'm fine with The Shadow. At least with him you know where you stand, he wants us dead and to bring chaos to the world.
The Trickster on the other hand, he doesn't want anything, he isn't good he isn't evil he just sits in the middle making fools of everyone. Man, what an asshole what gives him the right to judge other people? Acting like some pompous know it all looking down on everyone. I wish I could put the guy in his place, knock him down a peg or two. But that's the worst of it he's a god there is nothing we can do. I swear he makes me so angry.
>>338755
>>338759
Svard leads you to the suitors, and you meet your father there. You are introduced to the three young men in front of you:
>Perryk - A bold warrior whose family joined your village a little before you were born. Rumour has it they were knights in some far off kingdom.
>Jerrod - The youngest member of the fletcher/hunter family. Said to have an uncanny knack with animals.
>Hakron - A mage who spends much of his time with the spiritual leader of the Brotherhood of the Raised Chalice. Dabbles in magic unfamiliar to the instructors at the academy.
[spoilers] Apologies for any re-used or commbined old tropes. I'm trying my best to vary them at least a little.
Goodnight anons, see you tomorrow. Sorry about Erika...
>>339262
It's fine, we steamrolled every other room.

>>339801
Jeez, I feel awful. People really loved Erika, huh? It's almost crueller now that you know it's possible to survive. I liked her a lot too if I'm honest. The combination of ale chugging berserker and Sir Anon's pictures really endeared me to our brave warrior lass.
I don't want to give too much away, but I'll say this. She is dead. No gimmicks, actually dead. No cheese resurrection sleek will undo the permanence of this state, and even if such a spell did exist, it would be way outside of your current scope of power. You might see her again though, in a fashion which doesn't undermine permadeath.

You share a cool ale with Old Svard while the portal preparations are being finished, and give him a long hug as you head off.

Ready to leave at last, you look back to the assembled villagers, and offer some advice with your final farewell :
>Rebuild, together! (The village needs community and safety more than anything).
>We must begin taxation of the town! This quest needs funding! (The rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer, but as long as you're one of the former, right?)
>Bring new blood to our town! (More townsfolk and more variation can only be good for us, surely?)

Better housing, less people dying. We just gotta be sure we send alot of gold back this time.
>>340816
Ill agree with repairing the town. Because it's logical admittedly
>>340816
Rebuild. No more dying.
>>340822
THE YEAR OP WHAT YEAR IS IT
Also, welcome back, I was to the dentist, and I have to go back later this day.
>>340824
I hope I won't miss too much.FUCK YOU 4CHAN FOR BEING SO BUGGY RIGHT NOW
>>340826
Im getting a lot of post delay myself
>>340826
>>340827
Yep, I've had my post delete itself once, and have been trying to post since a minute or so after my last. God damn it.
You arrive in Sanctuary Citadel and quickly take note of what you're carrying, and your general wellbeing.
Herosheet and capabilities incoming!
HP - 5 base +3 per level
AP - 7 at level 2
Passive/Any time abilities:
>Nimble hands - Willow gains +2 to hit with thrown weapons.
>Finesse - Willow gains +1 to hit with light weapons, but -1 to hit with medium weapons, and -2 to hit with heavy weapons.
>May only use light armour and bucklers.
>Stealth - If enemies are currently unaware of Willow, she may attempt to hide in shadows. Certain actions opening doors, walking very close to enemies, will require a successful roll to stay hidden.
>Backstab - Attacking from stealth gives an automatic hit and x2 damage. Attacks from behind without stealth gains x2 damage, but no automatic hit.
Once per rest abilities:
>Decoy - Willow summons a magical copy of herself which enemies perceive as completely real. It matches Willow's base stats for that level, and while it can engage in combat, it cannot inflict damage on enemies. Lasts for one room, or until slain.
QM's note: This is a slightly more technical character than we've had so far, with lots of abilities, but not much in the way of HP or defence. We'll have to see how well it works.
Ready to descend into the darkness?
>>340834
No pickpocket?
>>340834
>Attacking from stealth gives an automatic hit and x2 damage
Holy shit.
We leveling up after we leave this sanctuary?
>>340834
Also, do we control the clone? Like basic actions?
>>340834
Sell torch, buy throwing knives.
We don't start with a minor health potion anymore?
>>340836
I'd say that that counts as a stealth action that you need to roll for. Depending on what you're attempting, the DC could be a 5+ (key dangling from belt of drunk guard) or a 20 (stealing the greatsword from the hands of an orc captain while he's using it).
>>340837
Yup. I always let you guys have your most recent level up to give you some control.
>>340840
Nice. Check the crafting table for any materials left. Check djinni for potions.
>>340839
That was a gift from a mother I think. Starting gear changes each time apart from clothes and unlit torch.
>>340839
I'm not sure it will sell for much/anything considering it's a bundle of twigs.
>>340838
Yep, much like with Kazgrub way back when, except Kaz xould actually kill things, and didn't disappear after each room.
>>340842
I'll post crafting contents in a sec. Small potion was about 15 GP, so unfortunately not. Might be able to get a few throwing knives like >>340839 wanted though.
Here is a list of the shit that's survived all these years in the crafting table (see pic).
Can't really make anything with it, but let me know if you want to take any of it with you.
>>340847
Just take empty glass vial
>>340847
is all that shit gonna be there next time?
also that looks like it could make a pretty sweet magic staff.
>>340847
Spindles are throwing weapons, right?
Let's use them!
>>340851
Seconding this, pretty sure we can throw them like the knives.
>>340853
Yeah just bring the spindles
You gather up the spindles and an empty vial, as well as some supplies for the journey ahead, and begin the trek to the next level.
Level up!
>HP - 11/11
>AP - 8
>Max attacks - 4 [spolier] Damn, she's quick! Low damage attacks with light weapons though.
Choose one ability:
>A puff of smoke - 2 AP - Enter stealth mode in plain view of enemies, in a brightly lit room, in combat, wherever.
>Confusion - 3 AP -Induce vivid hallucinations in one enemy. You will be able to give basic directions of what they see (their friend has become an enemy, the room is on fire, etc.)
>Tumble - 2 AP - In a dizzying display of acrobatics, confusing flashes, and disorienting noises, you may move to any other square that you can see in the current room, regardless of enemies, attacks of opportunities, etc.
First to three!
I'm getting lunch after the level up.
>>340860
I keep goofing on the text formatting. Oops.
>>340860
>Damn, she's quick! Low damage attacks with light weapons though.
Where's my crit chance buff???
OP, did you think twice about this? We can clear almost any room with tumble.
Abilities are 1 time only between sanctuaries, right?
>>340860
A puff of smoke.
Gotta get that stealth backstab yo.
>>340864
You could insta clear SOME rooms with tumble, but you'd get no loot, and plenty of doors don't open until the room is safe/solved. You might not even realise that until you've tumbled into a locked door, and are now surrounded by orcs.
Still 1 use between sanctuaries yeah.
>>340868
Then a vote a puff of smoke, for sneaky fun stuff.
>>340868
Puff of smoke
>>340860
I think tumble might be broken, not necessarily op but just broken. Let's go with the sneaky smoke.
Where dat cannon fodder l Easter egg
>>340944
I mean she's a gymnastic thief. You can Airways make her flat chested, plus she doesn't have armour, so that's a bonus.
Three bumps and we'll rumble...
>>340999
one
>>340944
Also, Sir Anon, is the filename a reference to the much-changed hair colour of our current hero, or am I missing something?
Shameless self bump.
>>341011
Lurking on phone, can't roll though.
>>340999
Bimboppity
...bump
>>341003
Nah its my hair
>>341030
I sent you a message on twitter op. Did you see it?
>>341030
Whilst we wait for op anyone want a sermon? If so what kind?
>>341038
Light strikes from the shadow
>>340999
3rd bump. Let's go OP
>>341041
Explain please. What do you mean by "light strikes from the shadows"?
Okiedoke guys, ready to roll!
>>341038
Awesome stuff man, seeing as I can imagine it being quite controversial for very the older preachers, so I might write this in as one of a few interpretations/denominations of Light Worship?
>>341048
Do you mean make it so what I wrote is a sect of a church?
>>341047
Our new hero
>>341052
Basically, yeah. If that sounds cool with you? I can imagine a few generations in people have slightly different ways of seeing things.
You enter the first room of the level. It's dark, dirty, and smells awful . You appear to in a small, poorly lit area. Light emanates from chinks in the wall and a few glowing mushrooms. What do?
>>341065
stay stealthy in the dark and scout out the room.
>>341065
We stealth now. Peek into the cracks. Stealthily.
>>341067
>>341073
Light footed, you approach the wall, and peek through...
Some attempt has been made to board the cracks in the wall up, but you can still see chunks of the room.
You see an orc talking to somebody:
"It's not a myth. I heard it. I was just a boy at the time, but I heard it from one of the goblin tunnels in the wall!" he points to a small crevice on one wall.
The boys on watch just started screaming! They threw up everywhere, and started dying out of nowhere! I though one of them was gonna make it, but then he started screaming about a demon! When I peeked out a minute later his head had fuckin' exploded." He shakes his head. "I swear, if I see anything weird I'm out of here fast as anything."
>>341099
Taunting us for not picking confusion...
>>341099
Let's fling the door open without them seeing us and when one goes to check we stealth kill him. That should spook them >:^)
>>341099
can we just continue past the cracks?
>>341114
Google crack in the wall
>>341120
Wait, what?
>>341112
As much as I love this idea, it leaves quite a lot to the stealth dice roll. We'll need to flesh it out. For example we can make some weird noises first while staying hidden. Scare them a bit. Then we knock on the door and remain hidden. Maybe the scaredy one leaves. Finally we go with your plan.
>>341132
If he sees the image of a crack in the wall, he'll understand why we can't go through.
>>341146
One door leads back to sanctuary and the other leads into the orc room
All this discussion for how to do something other than run in and stab it with a knife makes me so proud!
CAPTCHA showed a store called Aurora. RIP.
>>341157
Im apparently blind, nvm that.
How about we knock on the boards to lure them over, and if they don't come out, we keep knocking. Maybe start whispering creepy shit too.
>>341099
Scream then knock on the door slowly. If someone answers throw a mushroom at them
>>341188
THE LIGHT BLESSES THIS ACTION!
>>341188
I'll third this for a consensus. Make it a skream of agony and then wait a while before knocking.
>>341188
>>341178
>>341140
>>341112
I'll pile a bunch of ideas together to get things moving...
You start whispering "arcane-sounding" words, and generally try to be audibly spooky. You use a few illusionary cantrips to cause weird visual anomalies inside the room.
One of the orcs seems more concerned than the others, and looks around. You try and bait him further with more spooky tricks. You project a shrill scream into the room, and knock softly on the door.
Roll a d20 to see what happens! Results are hidden. For a bonus chance of success, suggest a creative ways to create spooky mischief!
I'd love to coat our dagger in the mushrooms, but it acts slowly so probably useless.
Write 666 on the floor with glowing mushrooms
>>341229
Suggestion to scribble spooky shit over the walls of the room.
Want to roll for it? (d20)
Rolled 18 (1d20)
>>341241
Sure
>>341250
Incoming heart attack
>>341241
It says "If you're reading this you're already dead."
Damn you, Vanilla Ice!
>>341250
Wew lad!
Using the unlit torch in your pack, you trace anything even resembling an unholy figure (and plenty you just made up) onto the walls and floor of the room you're in, using the glowing mushrooms as ink.
The moment you finish, one of the orcs opens the door to the room you're in. His eyes widen at the glowing mess of a room and he shrieks in horror, bolting for the door you entered by. At the last moment, he catches sight of you, a shadowy figure in the corner of the room (hissing and waving your bone blade for good measure).
The distracted orc runs straight into the wall with a crack, and collapses unconscious and bruised in front of you.
You hear another orc laughing: "Ha. Fool believed his own stories! Ignore him, he'll be back before it's his turn to take watch."
Well, that went better than expected! You've got an unconscious orc, and the door is open. What now?
>>341283
Silently kill the orc, cut his head and throw it inside as a distraction. Stealth attack!
>>341301
Cut his head jagged though, so it looks like something unearthly has torn their friends head off.
>>341306
Agreed.
>>341306
This
>>341301
>>341306
>>341308
And that's three!
You perform a coup de grace on the downed orc, cutting his throat, and letting him bleed out silently. Once that's done, you start sawing his head off. You tear at the flesh, ensuring the final product looks like it's been torn straight from the neck. You daub it in the growing pool of blood for good measure.
You peek around the door, and roll the ghastly thing into the room. Roll a d20 for effect!
Willow switched from cheeky gal to incredibly dark pretty quickly in this room...
Rolled 17 (1d20)
>>341348
Yeah, but it's fun
>>341358
noice.
>>341358
Made the orcs vomit last time, hopefully one will shit themselves this time.
>>341375
In the future, orcs will fear this room, for generations it'll be the scariest place known to orckind, as no orc ever made it out there alive, plus those spoopy glowing runes.
>>341358
Not knocking it at all! It's an interesting way for it to play out. Nice roll.
The severed head comes to a stop at the feet of the armoured orc. He starts muttering, twitching, and finally squealing like a pig. He runs into the corner of the room and sits there gibbering frantically. He's so worked up it almost seems like he's having some sort of seizure! He won't be bothering you for a while.
You hear the last orc cautiously approaching the door... What do?
>>341385
Wait for him to see inscriptions and his dead pal, then stealth attack.
Make more funny noises
>>341396
Agreed
Prop up the dead guy and hide behind him then atack
>>341427
This
>>341396
For this
>>341396
>>341427
>>341438
>>341421
I'll combine these to get through the room before I have to go.
You prop up the corpse, and make it look particularly horrifying. You manage to disappear into the shadows before the orc enters the room.
He's so shocked at the sight that he doesn't even notice you sneaking round behind him.
You can attack 4 times, or attack three times and block. The first attack will be an auto-hit with 2x damage.
No rolls will count until we've decided which you want to go for, to prevent band wagoning. Vote now!
Long dagger does 1d2+1 damage (2-3) per attack.
>3+block
>4
4
Rolled 13, 1, 13 = 27 (3d20)
>>341481
Sure
>>341484
Shite
>>341484
He is a herald of the darkness.
>>341484
Three hits and one crit miss. Hopefully you won't another turn anyway!
Roll 3d2! It's a +1 to each die, and the first one will get doubled (after the +1).
Rolled 1, 2, 1 = 4 (3d2)
>>341490
I'm scared now
>>341493
9 damage aint bad
Rolled 4, 9, 7 = 20 (3d20)
>>341493
Well still a respectable total!
You shove your knife into the side of the orc's neck, and slash at him a few more times as he tries to staunch the flow of blood. He looks up at you, near death and terrified... He swings his blade at you in a panicked fashion, before raising it defensively in front of himself...
>>341518
Well this entire experience has gone better for you than you could reasonably hope...
You've got 6 AP and 3 max attacks to finish this guy, I'd assume in his current state you'll want to use them all and skip blocking, seeing as he's pretty unlikely to live to attack you again.
His frantic blows don't even come close to you. You raise your blade to finish this...
Roll 3d20 anons!
>>341518
Well he's really shitting himself.
Rolled 19, 2, 8 = 29 (3d20)
>>341526
Not giving a fuck on these ones.
Should I ?
Rolled 11, 15, 12 = 38 (3d20)
>>341526
Rolled 2 + 1 (1d2 + 1)
>>341530
rolling damage
When we are done with this room we should put gore and blood all over the place and mark the door with the symbol of Light to scare any creature that might want to enter and to indicate to our descendants that the place is safe to enter.
Rolled 18 (1d20)
Well, he's very dead.
With a final swipe, you put the orc out of his misery.
Two dead orc, and one gibbering madly in the corner. What do?
>Kill him
>Use spooky tricks and tell him to tell his friends what happened
>Other?
>>341575
>>Use spooky tricks and tell him to tell his friends what happened
>>341579
I second this.
Rolled 8 (1d20)
>>341575
Well it has to be spooky tricks, can we cover ourselves in blood and mushroom ink before hand?
>>341583
Ouch, my bad...
>>341589
It wasn't time to roll yet.
>>335193
You got an archive link?
>>341593
All is good then.
>>341583
You wanna cover yourself in poisonous mushroom ink?
>>341575
>Use spooky tricks and tell him to tell his friends what happened
>>341605
Shit, I'm useless at the archive stuff. I've actually saved the threads on my computer somewhere I think, but I don't currently have an available version. Somebody was archiving them, but I don't know if they're still around... Will keep you updates.
>>341579
>>341581
>>341583
You cover yourself in blood (and decide NOT to cover yourself in poisonous mushroom juice), and walk towards the orc, hissing... You use more illusionary cantrips for extra effect.
"RUN, PUNY GREENSKIN. WARN THOSE THAT YOU COME ACROSS. I AM THE WISP, BRINGER OF DEATH, HARBINGER OF TERROR, FEAR INCARNATE, AND I-"
He bolts, screaming. You chuckle to yourself, you're kind of proud of that!
What next?
>>341677
Loot.
>>341677
Yeah what idiot suggested the mushroom juice.
>>341677
Loot time.
>>341677
Pry the wood off the area where the wine barrel is...
:^)
Then write on the door and wall about the story of wisp and how to scare orcs.
THEN LOOT THE DEAD
>>341683
From the orc carcasses you find leather scraps (3), metal scraps (2), orcish cleavers (2), and 5 GP . The barrel contains some questionable smelling wine, and the other is empty.
What now?
>>341694
Next room
>>341718
>>341691
After putting some gory finishing touches to the room, Willow heads onwards, to adventure...
TO BE CONTINUED...
Thanks a lot for playing folks! Had a fun session, new character plus imaginative anons made an old room seem pretty fun again! I'm not sure whether I'm around over the next few days, but I'll try to post updates as to my availability here and on @LegacyQuestOP.
Special mention to Sir Anon and Preacher for their sick extra content, and generally to everybody who was willing to try out our new character in a different playstyle. See ya soon!
Rolled 17 (1d100)
>>341723
Good night dude, today was fun, despite the salt from yesterday.
Have this roll.
>>341723
Actually enjoying willow a bit now
Thanks for the session OP
>>341742
he mentioned us My Sir!
>>341751
New sermon being made for you Sir Anon. Anything you want to add?
A couple great rolls really turned this room around! For a thief, we sure like the finesse our mother had.
>>341754
I'll draw a pic tomorrow
Im tired

There was once a great paladin of our gracious light named Sir Anonymous. He defeated evil and his motto was “The night is darkest before the dawn of light.” This became a powerful prayer used to smite evil and convert those back from the Darkness. A little known fact about our beloved saint
Is that he was an avid painter. He would paint the visions our great light bestowed upon him and used this to destroy the vile and uncouth. He was felled by 100 legions of Darkness. After his death he was brought before the chief angel and given the choice to go to paradise or to serve the light once more. Sir Anonymous became one of the greatest prevailers of light even after to death. Recite this prayer when you enter a realm where Darkness reigns “Great Sir Anonymous grant me the strength to imitate a quarter of what you have done. Allow me to smite this evil in the Light's name.”
>>344809
That was bad. It is very hard to create a context for sermons.
Is Legacy Quest kill?
>>347707
I hope not.
If it is, I'll start my half-assed quest that I'll never end out of spite.
>>347707
>>347733
No dudes. As I said earlier, I wasn't sure if my availability over the next few days. I'm currently staying with a friend in a different city, hence the ID change.
I'll be back home, and picking up weird we left off in not too long. Patience please!
P.S. I'll tweet from @LegacyQuestOP when the new thread starts, to let everyone know, and prove that it is still me.
Hope to see you within a few days!
>>347973
I just tweeted confirmation of my last post. Will be back soon.
OP is not kill.
>>347973
Yeah, nice to hear that.
I don't have twitter and I shit all over social networks so I'll check for your thread the old way.
Looking forward to it.
>>347973
Each session takes several hours, it's understanding that you can't do it often.
