The Eastmount: Named for its geographical location east of mountains, it boasts lush jungles filled with horrible monsters, plains regions filled with the tribal and violent fhey, bands of Avicated bandits murdering people horribly and loose settlements called Freeholds which function as small principalities filled with scheming murderous assholes.

People wouldn't even bother with the region at all, except for the great city of Merkantus! Located in the aptly named Trader's Bay, the city is massive by medieval standards. Over a million people reside there, and its massive walls, constantly vigilant guardsmen and wealthy populace all gather there for one reason: The Magic Trade. Details to outsiders are extremely sparse, but it is the only known area in the whole world where one can get tattooed with the special magical symbols. These function as spells, and disappear from the body as soon as they're used, so the need is to always return. But who is giving the tattoos, and what are they asking for in return? You want some of that power....and here you are!

Well, soon enough anyway. It's a great day, and the caravan trundles along at a good place. You're excited. In your early adulthood, you've been wanting to make it to Merkantus since you were a little __________.

Cypher System Rulebook, 70: You are quite certain that your fate is leading you, inextricably, toward a terrible end. This fate might be yours alone, or you might be dragging along the others closest to you.

Why the fuck did I even include this as an option?

Nevermind all that doom and gloom. You look around the wagon you're riding in currently. There's around six people, one of which is chained to the bottom of the wagon. A woman. Near her, a smallish man sits looking at her nervously and constantly ruffling and then smoothing a feather he found. The rest are humans, but you know the woman is an Avicated.

>The Avicated are strong. Much stronger than the average human, and even though they used to be humans, some foul process has boosted their intellect, strength and more to ridiculous levels. They live for thousands of years, they say, but they have grey, splotchy skin that looks like years of alchemical burns have worn away the beauty they used to possess. They are shunned and hated all over the world, and especially so in the Eastmount.
Pick avicated if you:

The man sitting next to her with the feather is a Fhey.
The Fhey are short, tawny skinned people that seem to uniformly have long raven hair. Typically they don't go anywhere without some kind of leather armor on, but this man is wearing a green cloak and tough but non-armorlike clothes. The fhey are almost exactly like humans but they possess a necklace strung full of gemstones they claim allow them to communicate with their ancestors. Nobody knows if it's true, but the Fhey will scream bloody murder if you dare attempt to remove them. Nobody who has ever tried to take one from a living Fhey has ever lived to tell the tale. A current trend which horrifies most in the Eastmount is the tendency to mutilate their children's ears. Depending on the generation, Fhey may have long pointed ears, small tiny nubs, odd star-shaped patterns and more.

Well, that's three!

>You're an Avicated. You're hated by most people, and you share a history with every other member of your people. Sadly, you were never in the eastmount before, part of the diaspora up north. You have long silvery hair, grey splotchy skin, and grey eyes. In the least awesome way possible. You look like a sickly old man, but you are not, in any way shape or form, a sickly old man. Your muscles ripple under your skin, and your mind feels always switched on, and you move with a catlike grace.

Sadly, it doesn't feel that way. You always feel like you're this way artificially. You're tired, and sleep only makes you feel worse when you wake up. But despite the feeling, you know you're not, actually. You can stay awake for a week with no ill effects, you barely need to eat. You're good at the ways of war. But what are you?

>A Warrior. A person who fights with the skill and prowess of a trained soldier, or a raging barbarian. You live by the sword, the bow, the axe. You were hired as a caravan Guard.
>A Bard. You are a speaker, and due to a strange circumstance of your birth, you've traded strength for guile, your silver tongue is able to get you to any destination, hell, you didn't even pay for this trip. You just talked your way on.
>An Explorer: Some out there might say that a massive city is hardly a place for an exploring academic like yourself, but you don't really give a shit what they think. Cities are rife with secrets, crumbling ruins and nobody's ever mapped Merkantus. The sheer size, the private districts. The home of one of the merchant-kings could have the discovery of a lifetime. You paid to get on this caravan.

Alrighty then, boys, we have our character. In the interest of actually getting this two day old quest going, I'm going to fill out the rest of the character. The game uses a trunicated version of the Cypher System, which is a rules-lite system that you'll be rolling d20's to hit a target number. It's simple enough. I can answer any questions about the system out of character, please post in spoilers or brackets.)

You are Doravin. You are a Doomed Avicated Explorer who Entertains. All your life you've been looking forward to returning to your homeland, the Great City of Magic, Merkantus. All Avicated hail from this city, and in ages past, a time you still remember, many of your kind worshiped your leadership, the Mothers, special Avicated who could, at will, "Avicate" other peoples from any race, granting the long life, the instant boost in intelligence, the impossible grace of your people.

That was long ago, and they were all exterminated by The Rangers.
That is in the past, though. The Rangers are all gone, vanishing from the pages of history like so many empires, brotherhoods of knights and more. There is only the now, and there is only you. You've come to Merkantus to learn more about your own people's history, to explore its miles of catacombs, to sneak into mansions belonging to the great Merchant-Kings and more.

Unfortunately you're still at least a few days away, and this caravan's master feels the need to trundle along at a slow pace. You gaze about the wagon again. There is the Avicated woman gained to the bottom of your wagon. She doesn't give you a second look, while the Fhey darts his glance from the floor, to his fingernails, to her, and back again with such rapidity that it almost looks like he's bobbing his head. He has the black hair of his people, but his necklace is tucked into his shirt - odd, the Fhey are very proud of their religion and never seek to hide it. The others on the caravan are three humans. A woman and her child, and a man with them, though by the indifferent demeanor the man has to the child's increasingly severe cough doesn't mark him as family member. He carries with him a large amount of weapons - mostly staves. The Fhey is seemingly unarmed. The woman and child are unarmed.

You call out to the other Avicated. She looks up at you, hair cascading down either side of her face. Strange that she managed to keep her hair so intact after so long. She's got an anger to her that you've seen in a lot more of your kind. She doesn't respond to your call, nor does she reply when you ask her name, or her reason for imprisonment. The Fhey chuckles softly to himself.

You dance a small jig, but unfortunately, the moving wagon causes you to fall backwards into the wagon. You stand back off, brush yourself off, and you ask the Fhey if he knows anything about the Avicated. The man regards you oddly, then smirks, crosses his arms and shakes his head. It doesn't seem you will be getting much out of him now.
