On a far off planet lay you: a being that is able to evolve any creature!
The planet you inhabit is a swamp land, covered in muddy, feet deep water. As far as the eye can see, mangrove-like trees dot the land. Any land there is is basically just small muddy islands. On this quest, you will evolve the four creatures in the picture.
RULES:
>Take an existing creature and add a small and semi-realistic mutation to it (spikes, feathers, longer tail, etc.) using whatever program you have. Post it in the thread and give a small description about what you changed.
>To make things interesting, there will be extinction events taking place. Take a creature and add a mutation that will make them survive the event. Example: higher waters, make them better swimmers.
>Modify a creature that wasn't last modified by you. This can be excused if the creature is about to go extinct, someone else mutated it, or it hasn't been updated in 3-4 hours.
>Don't add complex features; work up to them. If you want to add wings, make an extra appendage, then add feathers, and so on.
>Make it somewhat realistic. Don't add telepathy or laser eyes, add feet or jaws.
>Don't take away mutations.
Have fun!
Added eyes so it can actually see.
>>223475
Some sladema, encouraged by the pressure of predation by the jark, develop hearing through two ears at the front / top of their skull.
>>223547
two appedages to climb trees
>>223490
Squad develops some horns to help defend itself.
>>223888
more arms for gripping bugs
>>224248
I suppose I'll make more changes. The yellow bands have turned green to blend in with the leaves in branches, and the sladema itself has grown to about the length from your pinky tip to your wrist.
>>224288
forgot pic
Flobs- Added extra long dangle bit used for absorbing nutrients
>>224303
Meant to say "Absorbing nutients in the murky bottom of the swap waters"
Squab develops poison, bright colors alert other animals to this.
>>224356
What's wrong with your pics? They're tiny as fuck.
I honestly don't know, just copied the above guy's Squab, made some changes, and it turned out tiny.
>>224367
Well, since I can't enlarge it, I'll just try to replicate it to the best of my abilities.
>>224303
You as well.
Squads develop poison, and as a result also develop bright pigments in skin to show and warn other animals.
>>224383
Try enlarging the pic before you copy it
Squads now develop poison, and as a result bright patches of color adorn them, warning other animals.
>>224402
Alright. Glad we solved that. (also the rules stated that you can't evolve a creature last made by you. I appreciate the enthusiasm, though)
Added a longer tail to assist in maneuvering in the air and the water.
Some Sladema grow a bright, glowing spot around their head, the purpose of which is to attract light-obsessed bugs and insects, which it feasts on.
>>224402
The squad loses the side horns and grows eye stalks allowing it to look where its horn is and also look around easily.
The Squad evolves two long "feeler" tentacles, which they let drift away from the main body to catch unwary prey.
>>224376
Evolve longer tenacles.
First timeline's done. You all did good
>>224497
The Jark improves on it's echolocation to better navigate between the mangroove trees when gliding.
>>224813
Remove hard shell, so we can fit into tighter spaces.
kids need drugs not hugs
>>224813
The Squad develops suction cups on its tentacles to better capture prey.
>>225255
The naked squad develops an air breathing tube so it can move outside the water. It starts climbing the mangroove trees to feast on fruits and insects there.
>>225092
The Jark's tail becomes more flexible to assist in climbing trees.
>>224291
>>224288
Some Sladema, instead of developing this bright spot, instead grow long tongues to catch unwitting bugs.
the squad develops skin between its tentacles for better swimming capabilities and for trapping smaller prey.
The Jarks have now developed a lengthy tongue in order to swoop up small insects nearby
>>224291
These develope sacks that contain a substance that taste horrible to avoid being eaten by predators. And longer jaws to eat insects more easily.
>>226035
Aren't Jark's herbivores? Or are they carnivores now?
>>223475
The sladema evolves a row of armour plates along its back to protect it from predators, making it harder to grab or cut.
>>226077
I think most of them are herbivores but that particular species is an omnivore, maybe.
>>226104
I think you're supposed to evolve the most recent iteration of a creature.
>>226112
This would be the first ever evogame I've played in over the years that worked like that. I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea for an evolution rule, just that I've never come across it before.
>>225255
The naked squad evolved more streamlined shape.
Also it can live even deeper.
>>226132
Fair enough. I'll add it to the chart.
Chart V. 2. Loving the squads line. Flobs are a little neglected.
>>226162
I will do Flobs soon, but I'm taking a shit
>POO IN LOO
Tree squad develops two additional tentacles to assist with climbing.
>>227074
Whoops
>>224382
In an attempt to dissuade predators, the Flob turns brighter and gives off smelly purple pollen.
>>227110
Still not right. The tongue sladema branches off of the standard green one. All three (glowing/tongue/bulb) are separate.
>>227148
im 4 dont make fun of my inability to follow directions
>>227191
There we go. Thanks!
>>224382
Some flobs evolve flowers in order to attract pollinating insects.
>>227078
Squads develop two appendages on the top of their head to sense vibrations in the air to warn of predators.
>>223475
The sladema evolves longer arms for grappling onto prey and the trees that it climbs on.
Alright, we have 12 lines going on here. I think it's time for an EXTINCTION EVENT MOTHERFUCKERS.
The planet starts to grow warmer and warmer. This throws the weather way out of balance. Monsoons and hurricanes are more frequent, more destructive, and more unpredictable. Unless you want your species to go extinct, think of a mutation that will save them from doom!
Basically, think of a mutation that will make them survive frequent hurricanes.
>>227419
You also have 90 minutes until your species goes extinct.
>>227419
Squads' tentacles split in two to be able to grip the ground.
The Armored Sladema gets a fancy new side-view image and even more armor, as well as scales to protect from attacks. The extra armor keeps it heavy enough to not be tossed around by the wind.
>>227127
The Bright Flob becomes rooted to the ground, anchoring it against rough wind and waves.
>>227419
the fork-tongued sladema develops claws to latch onto trees and burrow into the ground. If anyone feels like it they can make better claws, I just wanted to get it in before the time.
>>226035
the jark develops cryptobiosis in order to survive hurricanes, although it relies on being left in a survivable environment. I can't really think of a way to illustrate this.
>>227462
Shit man, i gave you all 90 minutes. The event started five minutes ago. (also, I accept you submission. Feel free to improve the design)
>>227433
Squads also develop suction cups to stick onto the ground.
(If anyone can draw suction cups better, be my guest)
The Jark develops a super sticky blob at the end of it's tongue. Whenever it feels threatened to get blown away by storms, it can anchor itself to a solid surface with the tongue.
>>225975
The Suction Squad's tentacles shrink and its shell gets bigger, allowing it to hide inside the sturdy shell whenever strong winds blow and escape safely.
The long-armed sladema evolves stronger arms and a bulkier build, and becomes terrestrial. It can latch onto the ground when there's strong wind, and it can store energy (similar to fat, but more dense) in the bulkier areas.
>>227600
Forgot image
>>223547
This species of sladema evolves a longer, more muscular tail which it uses to anchor itself to trees in times of high wind.
The hermit squad develops suction cups (super unique) to latch onto larger fauna for a parasitic lifestyle, and is safe as the animal it attaches itself to.
>>227451
Rooted flob develops thicker stem and roots and lifts itself out of the water. It's dangly bits reach below the water surface. Those are the mangrove trees maybe?
>>227870
Nah, there were already mangrove-like trees everywhere. Still this is fucking rad.
Alright! Time's up! Introducing the new denizens of the Cyclocene Epoch!
Of the twelve lines, 4 died off and 1 new one emerged.
>>227910
So from now on, you must only use the creatures featured in the Cyclocene chart.
>>227910
The fit sladema has lost its tail as a result of its newfound terrestrial lifestyle. Perhaps it will develop strong legs in the future?
>>227975
yeah or it could like build its delts and stuff
>>228023
Yeah I was thinking this sladema could support itself on its hands when not hunting n sheit
>>227606
Sladema becomes spookier in order to adapt to its environment.
>>228092
pants status: shat
>>227865
Hermit squad changes its shell shape, making it able to glide in water. It becomes a predator and hunts in schools.
>>229142
Some hermit squads grow a proboscis in order to suck the fluids out of their prey.
>>229214
shit wtf
>>227910
Flobs (thin rooted) Lose their roots and grow large green petals whose insides are hydrophobic and close to protect the flower during storms, and they resist salt. I'm on mobile so no pic. Sorry.
>>229142
Some Squad changes its colors to differentiate itself from other schools. This communal living development makes the species to be succesful, and gain additional red colored in its body, that it used to store fat
>>227509
The land squad stops climbing trees in favor of eating the animals on the ground. They develop a mouth to swallow any organism in one bite. Hey, at least its cute!
>>226138
>>227419
The naked squad evolved high pressure resistanc it can live even deeper.
>>230245
You're a bit late, jimbo.
>>227451
Some of the rooted flobs start to grow on the small muddy islands that are found in some places. Their stems shortens and the dangly bits are now underground, getting moisture from the soil.
>>230225
The land squad loses its middle tentacle, but develops the lower two into rudimentary legs. Giving it the ability to chase after prey
Land squats body gets bigger
i feel like at some point the flop will just go through massive amounts of evolution and become this.
*flob
>>230376
The Rooted Flobs grow out their Flowery bits, allowing them able to secrete even more noxious pollen. This makes their surrounding areas nearly unbearable for other creatures aside from pollinating insects and other flobs.
>>230245
Evolve more tenacles, now we have 8.
>>230737
That's an invalid evo, the squad you started with died in the extinction event.
>>230737
Evolve better eyes.
>>230538
Please, never put your images in jpegs. They are very hard to add onto. Use png instead.
>>230538
Land squad mouth-beak type thing gets bigger. The face makes room as a result.
>>227910
Some Sladema find their organs and body fat shifted towards their tails. although not much benefit is currently seen, some vital organs become positioned further inwards, creating some sort of barrier in the event of injury. In addition, this causes a reduction in weight at the front of their bodies.
>>227910
Jarks begin to produce a slimy sticky fluid from their skin, which helps them cling to plants/trees, as well as keeping still. This assists them in not alerting insects to their presence.
>>227910
Other Jarks however, unable to catch as many insects, find their mouths thinner. They are now able to reach further into dips into trees, ground, etc to find insects.
>>230785
The Land Squad (Now known as the Laquad) develops sharp teeth to assist in taking down larger prey and digestion.
>>231218
Develops sight
>>230800
Some sladema also develop camouflage
Thin mouth jark gets even longer mouth and larger "wingspan"
>>231309
The Laquads develop a hump that helps them balance while running. It also stores fat and nutrients that can be used in need a time of need
>>230858
Some jarks develop a more flexible tongue which they can use as a whip against predators, catching insects is also easier
>>230714
The Rooted Flobs now secrete a pollen that instead of repulsing animals, it puts them to sleep. Allowing the flobs to grow without fear of animals eating them.
an offshoot of the same species located in the more ashy swamp. The wide claws allow for them to fan away ash.
>>230769
grow bigger
Some flob's "dangly bits" can turn into runners creating new plants.
giving it the ability to reproduce asexually in a similar style to strawberry plants.
Pollen becomes less potent, to compensate for the increase in plants and flowers in the area.
>>233703
added extra appendages for later
>>233052
fuck it.
added lasers
>>233285
The naked squad evolved into kraken and it's much much bigger...
>>233831
>make an organism larger without changing anything else
>don't provide a scale
???
>>229533
Pack squabs' tentacles develop into a robust tail to aid with pack traveling
>>233831
Kraken develop a mouth with hundreds of teeth to swallow any organism in one bite.
Wow, you guys did a lot while I was gone.
I'll compile another chart. Another extinction event is coming.
Alright, time for another apocolypse!
A meteor strikes the planet. Part of the land is a fiery hell hole, the rest is covered in ash. The sky is clouded with half as much sunlight coming through as it did before.
If you want your species to survive, mutate it so that it can survive in a cold, dark, wasteland.
>>233950
The squid thing gets warmer blood to warm it's body up from the inside, turning it a bit more reddish.
>>233969
I thought it went extinct in the previous extinction?
>>233971
I don't know, the others were updating it. Also, it looks like the image you posted is a bit cut off at the bottom, maybe?
>>233973
Naw, that pink line is part of a creature. I think this one guy was just upset that his creature went extinct so he kept trying to update it in hopes that it'll catch on. Ignore the blue squid thing,
Also, you guys have 90 minutes.
>>233987
Ah, yeah. you're correct. I'll try doing one of the other things. That's kind of pathetic, in all honesty.
>>233950
The Laquad develops infrared sight to see in the dark better and find heat sources, which they crowd near.
>>234015
Laquad also develops underbelly that acts as insulator. Keeping their organs warm
>>234035
What happened to the air tube?
>>233950
It gets dark spot to attract more heat.
The armoured sladema evolves to be able to hibernate through the coldest parts of the year in a leaf-insulated burrow which it digs into a tree trunk.
>>234042
Oh yeah, I forgot about that
Laquad also evolves a filter in its airtube to filter out airborne ash
>>233050
Rooted flobs roots go deeper into the ground with theri roots, using the planet's thermal energy to warm them up
>>233052
The Ash Sladema, in addition to its pre-existing attributes, find that the ones with more spread out fat seem to survive better.
Not only this, but their organs continue further back along the tail, resting about halfway through. Benefits of this include their heart being protected, as well as insulation meaning warmer blood is being pumped around their bodies. Secondly, all their organs are able to insulate eachother and keep warm. Not only that, but in the case of any species using infrared to hunt, they instead target the back of the creature. Whilst this still kills them, some do last somewhat longer when this occurs, whereas others seem to regerate faster even if it is futile.
Their ash colouring will also help them camouflage in the ash in the near future.
>>227748
Some of these Sladema, in wake of the decreasing temerature retreat to caves. These Sladema develop larger scales, which grip to the stalagmites and stalactites easier. Not only this, but they adopt a browner colour.
meteor strikes will hopefully increase the amount of hydrothermal vents.
Land flob has sunk underwater, roots attached to rock instead of soil.
>>231357
No love for the jark? I'm
On the phone so can't draw, don't know if just text counts. Jark grows fur over it's body to withstand the cold.
the large shelled squad evolves to replace its poison glands with heat storing pockets in its shell, turning its body a more red colour.
>>233854
The pack squab's "helmet" is hollowed and gains a mirrorlike inner coating that both traps heat and light, allowing its new eye tentacle to see better in darkness
>>234196
Its evolved a hat.
Time's up! I'll go and make the new chart.
>>231357
The Thin Mouthed Jark, finding itself colder retreats to the trees, more specifically inside. With longer, more adapted mouths they are able to knock holes into these trees, and sometimes even the ground. They proceed to crawl into these little hidouts to hibernate with the assistance of claws, which currently aren't very effective, even if they do assist in travel.
Finally, a smaller membrane connecting the legs of the creature allows it to avoid getting tangled in its miniature burrow, although it does sacrifice a little heat in the process.
>>234229
Ouch. So close and yet so far.
>>234235
I know. If only I hadn't gone to eat a biscuit, I would've finished it in time!
Wow, a lot of creatures died! Well, I wouldn't imagine a lot of species surviving after a meteor hits the planet.
Also, if someone could draw the Jark with fur that'd be great.
>>234035
Unfortunately for the Laquad, a colder enviroment meant that longer tentacles couldn't be sustained. Laquad who had shorter tentacles preserved more body heat, and thus bred more, leading to shortened tentacles.
Additionally, the species recieved a small membrane around their feet. While not much, it certainly prevents ash damaging their feet, giving the membrane a gray colour.
the squads shell goes grey to camouflage with the ash covered seabed.
>>234256
Here you go OPee - fur-jark (furk) emerges from the ashes!
>>234480
The Furks eyes gradually become larger, enabling them to see better not only in the ash filled air, but at night time too.
Also, the cream stripe along their backs becomes a lighter gray colour.
>>233969
>>233867
Evolve unique swivelling hooks at tentacles
>>234326
grey shell squad elongates its shell to accomodate a special heat producing and heat storing organ. It retains its three venomous spikes.
>>234561
nigga your squid waifu went extinct TWO extinction events ago. play by the rules and give it up dude
>>234631
Kek :3
Currently on mobile so if somond could draw this, much appreciation.
The enlongated shell squad grows its tentacles outwards away from its shell to provide better movement backwards. Also moving its eyes to its sides for wider vision.
*Someone
>>234081
Flobs with larger leaves outlast those with smaller leaves.
>>234069
Some armored sladema grow more armor that is spikier. They've also learned to curl up into a ball when attacked.
>>234116
Due to the lack of a stable food source in the caves, it was either run or die for these Sladema.
After developing slit-nostrils that are thin enough filter the Flob's sleep-inducing spores, it's species made their burrows under the Flob plant. The Sladema eat the tubers of the Flob plant, and their droppings help to keep the soil around the Flob plant fertile.
The Sladema is now mostly safe from predators, and the Flob constantly has fresh fertilizer for it's soil. Through this symbiosis, both creatures thrive.
(Not a huge change but we need some species lore in this thread)
>>235091
never mind I've got on my computer again
>>236309
>>236238
The Big leaf flob's Symbiosis with the Sladema grants them more nutrients, causing their flowers to grow bigger
Elongation of tentacles continue and it gains little flaps for better steering at high speed
the squad grows more streamlined fins and bigger horns to ram into prey.
Dark spot squad evolves two tentacles into big fins and elongates its remaining tentacles. this allows it to swim faster and grasp food more easily.
>>234123
Underwater Flob's pollen mixes with water to become a mucus membrane that surrounds the plants. The membrane snares plankton which the roots begin to absorb.
>>234085
Ash Sledema (Sledasha) birth defect from ash-filled environment causes it to grow three arms in place of two. The extra arm proves useful for picking through ash piles for food, as well as added mobility. The mutation breeds true.
>>237101
The Ramming Squad, finding great success with its new hunting method, develops elongated horns to spear rammed targets.
>>237923
Artist's Recreation of a Three-Armed Sledasha.
(No photo, on Mobile)
The ramming squad grows to fit the amount of food it collects, now roughly the size of a person with two pointed "claws" in on the end of its tentacles to pick the food off its spears.
This charging at you now is like a boulder with knives attached to it being thrown at you.
>>234516
Furks develop protective lashes around their eyes to help protect them from freefloating ash. Prey at the tops of the mangroves has become scarce, sending many Furks to walk along the roots. Stronger arm musculature results.
>>238202
that's pretty sick.
>>239029
Thanks, it ended up pretty spoopy. 2spoopy at least, maybe 3.
>>238203
Drawing evo from Anon above. (Also impaled dark spot squad included for size comparision.)
Damn, got back from a week long trip and my poison Squad died.
