You are ALCHEMIST THEODORE, and this is your LAB. Soon, your newest concoction will be finished, and those FOOLS who called you crazy will eat up their words. This invention will revolutionize the world as we know it, and you will be hailed as the greatest alchemist in the kingdom.

Oh right! It is a POTION OF FLESH, it can grow flesh on ALMOST any surface (glass doesn't count since you need it to carry it)! Sure it is kinda gross, but with FLESH growing pretty much anywhere, you can cure serious injuries from people, and even be able to farm it to solve WORLD HUNGER. You truly are a genious.

Oh, there it is! The POTION is finally coming out from the MIXER. In a few minutes, you will have a flask full of it.

But it seems someone is bothering you during this precious moment! Can't they just wait while you do some GOOD for the world?

You yell for the guard, or anyone near by. Your voice echoes through the corridors. Looking outside the cell, you see that this place is most likely a PRISON, as the only thing you see are many CELLS that go on and on forever.

Your yell is received with strange noises coming from the cells. Whispers, rattling, and disturbing sounds.

No guards seem to be around at all.

This is not what you expected.

You fall back, startled by the weird SNAKE-MOUSE HYBRID.

Suddenly, a bolt of MAGIC rains down on the THING, and kills it.

You look up, and see your CELLMATE. It seems to be a WOMAN, most likely a MAGICIAN by how she killed the monster.

"Who is there?? Show yourself!!"

You ask MARIAH about how she was imprisioned and what she knows about the dungeon.

She says that from what she can hear, the dungeon is probably a tower. She obviously can't see how it looks like, but she has a general idea from things she heard from other prisioners and from noises. She says that once a day, a lone GUARD goes through every cell and leaves a single LOAF OF BREAD to each prisioner in it.

"How I got here... it is a long story, but let's say I oppossed the church.

They took my eyes and locked me in here."

You feel she doesn't want to talk much about it.

You look around the CELL. There isn't much. The matresses have nothing under it, it seems they are made of a really simple cloth and feathers, like huge pillows.

The only thing resembling a toilet is a hole in the wall, which you assume is a SHOWER. Nothing else.

You just look around once more, trying to notice something you missed.

MARIAH says "It's hopeless.", but you can't shake the feeling that you CAN escape somehow.

As you are lost in thought, SOMETHING comes out of the ground. A DEMON! It shrieks and goes down into the hole it made on the floor.

MARIAH asks "What?! What happened?? Roland, are you there?? What is going on?!"

You tell MARIAH that a DEMON appeared and broke through the floor. The GODS have no abandoned you yet. She tells you that it is great news, but that you have to check the hole before jumping down. If the DEMON came out of it, obviously it is still there.

You take a look at the HOLE. The ABYSS stares back at you.

You tell MARIAH that even if you two don't go, you will die in this CELL anyway. So it is worth a try. She seems to think for a bit about the situation, and tells you she knows a SLOWFALL spell. She can use that so you can fall slowly through the hole, but she is still concerned about the DEMON.

You break a PLATE and use one of the pieces as a KNIFE. You tell her that you will protect both of you so you can escape together.

You two jump down the hole.

The DEMON seems to be fighting a KNIGHT. However upon close inspection, the KNIGHT seems to be some sort of WEIRD CREATURE wearing armor.

You could try to fall without them noticing, or aid the KNIGHT kill the demon, but you have heard that DEMONS are really resilient.

You decide to use this opportunity to sneak behind the DEMON and the KNIGHT-THING. You tell MARIAH to turn towards a huge GATE you see near the bottom.

Once you get through, you lock the SMALLER GATE, leaving both creatures trapped. None of them seemed to notice, busy fighting each other.

You ask MARIAH what was that knight, by describing what you saw.

"What? You don't know about the angels?

They are the church's frontlines. They are inhuman creatures specialized in fighting demons.

From what I heard, angels are the wardens in this dungeon. If that truly was an angel, it is a good thing it didn't see us. It would have killed us for leaving our cell."

You are now in a lower floor, the DEMON CELLS.

The PIT seems to be not too far, you could fall there with SLOWFALL. There is a RIVER running through. The issue are the spiked rocks coming out of it, probably put there to prevent people from jumping in.

It seems to be a large HALL. There are ANGELS everywhere. They seem to be sleeping.

There is a HUGE DOOR at the end of the hall. It might be the exit.

You tell MARIAH about the room and ask if she can use any spells that can disguise you, or to make you make no noise.

Unfortunately, she knows no such spells.

You carry her and stand in front of the PIT. You take a deep breath before jumping in.

However, as you are about to jump, that ANGEL that was fighting the DEMON managed to open the cell. He notices you.

"WARNING! WARNING! CODE RED! PRISONERS ARE TRYING TO ESCAPE!!"

You can hear the ANGELS in the hall waking up.

There is no time for tricks! The ANGELS burst through the door behind you, and you jump. MARIAH casts SLOWFALL, not at a too slow speed but enough to survive.

However, it is still too fast and you can't control how well you are going into the spikes.

In a stroke of luck, you manage to drop in a place with no spikes. Holding MARIAH close to you, you both sink into the water.

The ANGELS don't give chase. They just watch as you disappear underwater.

Finally you come back. You lost the SACKS underwater, but no matter.

The RIVER's current is too strong, and it ends up carrying you both away from the PRISON TOWER.

You hold MARIAH next to you, but your relief is short.

A huge FISH MAGGOT jumps out of the water.

You hold MARIAH's wrist, directing her hand to where she should shot the magic.

She fires 3 MAGIC SPHERES, 2 of them hit the FISH MAGGOT head on, while one misses. FISH MAGGOTS aren't too strong so it falls down with those 2 hits.

You and MARIAH resume floating on the river for a few more minutes.

Eventually, you reach a low area where you can leave the river. There seems to be an ABANDONED SHACK here as well.

MARIAH asks if there is another room, you say yes after verifying the door and making sure it is a bedroom. She says that while you have saved her, she will sleep there alone. You understand, and nods. You'll just sleep in this room. It's late, and it would be unwise to be around the RIVER as the CHURCH will most likely patrol it. As soon as morning breaks, you two are leaving for the nearest village.

You are now in the MAIN ROOM of the SHACK. What will you do?

You open the drawer nearby, and inside there are a few ingredients:

-A box with frozen magic needles
-A flask with a weird, glowing mushroom

Unfortunately, the FLESH POTION took too long to create, and this equipment is too simple to make it. You'd need to find a BIGGER LAB and MORE INGREDIENTS to be able to create it.

You end up mixing a few things, and end up creating a FREEZEFIRE BOMB, a UNKNOWN POTION and a FREEZING FRAG. GRENADE.

You put them in a BAG you find in the SHACK. You also put SOME INGREDIENTS in the BAG, like the MERCURY, the NEEDLES and the GUNPOWDER. You also find 32 GOLD COINS in the BAG.

Unfortunately, you have no more time to mix stuff. The sun starts to rise, and MARIAH asks if you are there, and urges for you to leave soon. You tell her that you were just preparing some things, and grab two CLOAKS that were hanging on the wall.

You two leave the SHACK, trying to distance yourselves from the RIVER as fast as you can.

Eventually, you see a TOWN in the distance. MARIAH suggests you to try to find new clothes and something to eat, then try to distance yourselves as far as possible.

You and MARIAH end up getting some new CLOTHES, some pieces with enchantments. The SEAMSTRESS is nice, and gives you a generous discount. MARIAH says the clothes hug her body a bit too much, but it is much better than the old rags.

You then immediately visit the GENERAL STORE and the PHARMACY. The ENCHANTMENT OF WEALTH helps you get some discounts, but the money you have left isn't that much so you only buy a few supplies:

3 LOAVES OF BREAD
1 PACKET OF SALTY CRACKERS
1 BOTTLE OF WATER
1 MAP OF THE LAND
1 BOTTLE OF ALCHOOL
1 HEALING POTION
1 FIRST AID KIT

With that, you have no more money left.

You and MARIAH leave the town as soon as you can. The sun is still high up, and you should be able to cover some distance. The farther you are from the PRISON TOWER, the better.

The road ahead splits in 3 paths. What will you do?

You decide to head WEST, but MARIAH tells you that walking around "blindly" will just get you caught, or killed. She suggests to check the MAP.

You open the MAP you bought from the store.

You are at the RED CIRCLE. The ROADS go where the arrows are pointing.

It seems the NORTH AND WEST path go to the RIVER you were before. MARIAH asks you to say where each direction will go.

NORTH will lead to following the RIVER and end up in a town called BELIA. MARIAH sudders slightly after hearing this.

WEST will lead to the town of SAINTEPER, a holy place where priestesses gather to train. Not a good idea.

EAST will lead to a FOREST, and after it to the CAPITAL. The CAPITAL is also a bad idea since the CHURCH's influence is too great.

You could also go back SOUTH, but that's where the PRISON TOWER is.

SOUTH of the CAPITAL is a town called YURUSSA. It is where your old LAB is located.

To EAST of BELIA is a town called ORNOSSA. It is near the BORDER of the KINGDOM.

It's settled then. You shall head to ORNOSSA, and try to leave the country through the BORDER. Hopefully you will make it without getting in the way of the church.

You and MARIAH walk, the roads are uneventful and calm.

Eventually, the sun starts to set. It will still take 2 to 3 days of walking to reach ORNOSSA. MARIAH suggests finding shelter for the night, since creatures may assault you.

You notice some fire in the distance, and some people ahead. It seems to be a CAMP.

You slowly approach the CAMP. It seems to be an ARMY CAMP. This is good, since the ARMY isn't aligned with the CHURCH, as they have their own ARMY of PALADINS, PRIESTESSES AND ANGELS. The kingdom ARMY is only for patrolling areas and fending off invaders.

You remove your BIRD MASK to not scare off/trigger any suspicion on the SOLDIERS.

One of the SOLDIERS notice you.

"Hey there, travellers! it's dangerous to wander around at night.

Are you heading north? Don't you know about the demon hanging around Belia? That place is completely off limits."

MARIAH seems startled once the SOLDIER mentions BELIA. You wonder if she knows what happened there?

"Either way, the road to Ornossa is still open. You can rest on the camps set up along the road. Just be careful not to stray out, there are lots of Wolf Ducks roaming around lately."

You thank the SOLDIER, and look around the CAMP.

There seems to be a few other SOLDIERS around, and more might be inside the CARTS.

You could rest up for tomorrow on the CARTS or ask around for information.

You ask one of the SOLDIERS about any dangers to the roads to ORNOSSA. He says that besides the usual pack of WOLF DUCKS, nothing really is happening. Either way, he tells you to be careful, since DEMONS have been popping out almost everywhere these days.

You and MARIAH enter a vacant CART and lay down to sleep. You both have a long day tomorrow.

You, however, are still curious. MARIAH's reactions to BELIA being mentioned were suspicious, and you ask her what she knows about BELIA.

She shudders, but doesn't respond.
