Bombass name and dubs confirm it.
You kneel before your liege. You both are still in your full mail and half-plate armor. Mortar and brick serve as ample seating for similarly garbed nobles and courtiers. This ruined keep had just repulsed an attack from the Moors, who grow ever bolder, and during which you had personally slain over thirty Muslim warriors in a bloody rage when they killed your squire. In recognition of your terrifying anger you've been granted this recently de-lorded castle.
Count Hermengildo, the first of House Mariñelarena, what is your action?
>Repair the castle and recruit some footmen from the local villages
>Quickly assemble a board of councilors to effectively administrate your new county
>"Diplomacy" to "negotiate" with the Muslim "neighbors"
>Something elseok seriously i'm actually going to bed so my writing quality isn't as shit, gn

You quickly set out to gather up as many peasants as possible to repair the castle. Riding forward with a host of about fifteen mounted soldiers, you gather a sizable workforce of craftsmen. When you return you start by repairing the southern gate and walls, to restore them to working condition. You spend about five months just fixing the walls, but in the end it looks nearly brand new. With the walls strengthened you and your master-at-arms start to recruit a garrison from the local populace. Returning to the castle with 30 peasant recruits, minor repairs and some cleaning turn the keep and the courtyard into a respectable sight.
You've spent six months recruiting and repairing, and all seems in tip top shape.
Then you get a message from your liege, Duke of Leon.
>Count Mariñelarena, a large Moorish host has been spotted south of Porto, and we assume their goal is to push north towards Leon. Gather an army and meet with our forces in Braga, where we shall fight off these heathen invaders.
You've been called to war and told to call your banners, do you
>Build up your forces a little longer and then march to Porto yourself
>Quickly respond and make your way to Braga
>Ignore it and work on your castle and your army

While your pursuits for a wife do not go unanswered, your position as a lowly count, and a recent one at that, prevent any lord from condoning to a marriage pact.

Meaning: catch some more peasants, tell them to carry at least a stick and food for the journey?
Catch all males over 12 then, we'll have the army our liege wants.
Seems to me that the 15 men-at-arms are our main force and peasants are our cannon fodder.
Our liege will have his men, Gather the town, and promise them all of the loot on whoever they will kill and if we march for their castles, they get to keep their women too!

>>Quickly respond and make your way to Braga
Took months to dredge up 30 peasants, like we are going to accomplish anything grabbing another peasant or two.

We may have to look further if we're in Basque territory. The Umayyads own almost all of Hispania and the Kingdom of Asturias is owned by an old man at this time with I BELIEVE no daughters. Same with The Capetians right now...we may have to look to another Countess in Italy...who knows maybe we'll gain some Italian holdings!

My bad, I am wrong, there IS the Kingdom of Leon, Castile and Pamplona...but still, we should tread lightly.
I would love to these keep going...
