any others?

I have a bonus one:

>attaching images to my post makes me look like a faggot

If you will notice most of the posters with a "hard" and belligerent demeanor almost exclusively text post. They probably have a self-loathing nature to being on 4chan and refuse to have a reaction image folder, or feel like using them makes them seem kiddy. Any way about it, they don't post images on image boards.

I think if you can you should always try to include an image with your post, even if it isn't specifically related.

There is literally nothing wrong with being on 4chan. It's just another discussion site on the internet.

4chan is not only for trolling and being an asshole to people. That's okay in moderation because it can be fun, but when it is the sole focus for so many users it becomes lame and repetitive. It's hard to meet friends in regular life, why go to place where you will find people with similar interests and then be a jerk to them?
>>

it just is what is. this is what happens when you give people the freedom of anonymity.
this is what happens you give them any freedom.

I come here to talk about my hobbies and interests with people. I can't do that with my family, and I don't get to see my friends too often. And some of the subjects I discuss here are things I would not say to people I know in regular life.

I also like the anonymity of 4chan compared to other sites. There's no sign up. No profile. None of my posts relate to one another in any way outside of single threads. I can say whatever I want and not have to worry about it reflecting on me. I can read opinions from others doing the same thing.

4chan is very fast. I could go on /tv/ right now and make a Mad Max thread and have a number of thoughtful replies in a matter of minutes. There are few other places on the internet you can do that.

This is all pretty obvious, but I will knock down this one strawman for the sake of the question being asked on /qa/.
>>
>>588713
>>4chan is a place for losers and you're a loser if you come here
This is true, redditurds and normalfags from Facebook.

If you are a normalfag, you must go.
>>
>>588756
and which strawman is that?
I'll admit that once in a rare while 4chan is good for talking about niche things like weird fetishes or unpopular media. But even then you have to hope the moon and the planets line up properly for it to happen otherwise king samefag and his squadron of shitposters will come storming in to stamp out people having fun. And man do I get sick of all of the politics. Unfortunately, that's a reflection of society as a whole instead of 4chan. Here's to hoping people in the 2020's are less stupid.

Not entirely. 4chan can be sincere too.
>>
>>588759
>king samefag and his squadron of shitposters will come storming in to stamp out people having fun.

Young'uns have forgotten the golden rule. Don't give the attention and they will get bored and stop. Don't reply. Don't do anything at all. Don't reply to people who reply to them.
>>
>>588757
4chan was originally (not that it matters in the long run) supposed to a "secret" club that people who led otherwise normal lives came to to act like weebs and faggots. Hence the "You DON'T talk about 4chan / b" idea.
>>
>>588765
>Hence the "You DON'T talk about 4chan / b" idea.
No, that was to prevent undesirables (normalfags) from coming to the website because it was unlikely to be found unless someone mentioned it.
>>
>>588753
I come here to see how do basement neckbeards react to my everyday stories
>>
>>588766
Yes. Those original people who came here knew they would not be able to speak as freely if 4chan became mainstream. Knew the quality of discussion would plummet. And that is exactly what happened. It had happened before too. 4chan is not so original as it thinks it is.
>>
>I use reddit to talk about movies
>I only come to /tv/ to shitpost
>>
>>4chan is right wing
It is though.
>inb4 muh /pol/
It is way before /pol/ existed. Even moot used to joke on communists. He once made a CSS hack on /b/ mocking socialism.

>>4chan is an addiction you need to kick
It is also an addiction.

>>4chan is a place for losers
This is also true, or at least used to be.

Honestly, OP, how many hours have you been here? 10?
>>
>>588777
It's so much easier to shitpost. I think that's an issue. If you take the time to write out a thoughtful post you will likely only get shitpost replies, or none at all.

We're all too short of attention span these days to read the good posts, or reply to them in kind.

Reddit is not much better. There's always that lengthy "top post" that may be interesting to read but scroll down and it's all circlejerk from there on out.
>>
>>588781
Mocking the USSR is about as ideological as mocking the Third Reich. Anybody who's not on the far left or far right can do both.
>>
>>588781
4chan is not, and has never been right wing. If you think otherwise you are not seeing the forest for the trees.

I'll give you a hint that might help you: no site with a pictures of giant black dicks on the catalog of every board is going to be considered "conservative" or right wing in any manner.
>>
>>588783
>We're all too short of attention span these days to read the good posts, or reply to them in kind.
Speak for yourself faggot. I actually read the threads I go into unless it's 99% shitposting which most of them are. Usually good posts are ignored because they already said it best. Or the shitflingers have no way to respond because they've been called out for the disingenuous frauds that they are.

pro-tip: 4chan is whatever you want it to be so long as you aren't breaking any rules (even then you can get a lot of leeway due to mods and janitors being lazy faggots)
>>
>>588793
saying "this" or "good point" is always appreciated. Sage if it bothers you.
>>
>>588837
That's what OP is getting at. People have too much of a notion that 4chan is supposed to be one thing or another.
>>
>>588781
Why do newfags think 4chan cared about politics back then?
They did racist shit for the laughs, how the fuck does that tie in with what political party you support? 4chan isn't one fucking person and not everyone went to /b/. Hell, 4chan was even called a left-wing terrorist site or some crap by the media.

4chan as a singular unified community hasn't been a thing for over a decade.
Any observations or presumptions about its users site-wide seems silly and futile to me.

Agreed. I think this is currently the site's biggest issue.

It's like everybody on a board has to think a certain way. This is happening on /v/, /pol/, and many others, even here on /qa/. It's most blatantly obvious when you see threads like "How do we fix x" or "We are sick and tired of y", but it's much more prevalent than that if you just spend a bit of time on certain boards.

There's a very big Us vs. Them movement on 4chan currently and the entire website is suffering from it. If people could realize and accept that their point of view is not the only valid one in many cases (or moderation could clamp down on special cases hindering discussion), it would do wonders for the quality of posts here. Instead, most boards have a very vocal "Old Guard" (many of which haven't actually been there all that long) that will jump down your throat the second you post a topic that they don't approve of instead of just hiding the thread or at least using sage. This is also commonplace if you try to give a dissenting opinion, no matter how well thought-out or reasonable it might be. Discussion takes a nosedive, people are left talking about the same old pre-approved shit over and over, and there's nothing left to do but post reaction images, bicker through greentext, or otherwise attempt to creatively shitpost.

>4chan was originally (not that it matters in the long run) supposed to a "secret" club that people who led otherwise normal lives came to to act like weebs and faggots
No.
It.
Fucking.
Wasn't.
m00t was trying to drum up support from the site before it was even online.
>Hence the "You DON'T talk about 4chan / b" idea.
The fuck are you even talking about? We've always been encouraged to spread 4chan around the Internet. m00t was for years desperate for attention and expanding his pet project and has relied on these numbers on multiple occasions for funding drives and latter on to bring in ad revenue.
The idea isn't to not talk about 4chan, it's to understand the divide between online and being AFK. Those who do not understand this concept have never been desirable in online communities in the west, well at least until Facebook conditioned retards to see anonymity and pseudonymous as something wrong.

You don't know what the fuck you're on about.
Were you even online in the late 90s and early 2000s?

>>588777
/tv/ as a board should never have been made. The issue isn't the shitposting, it's the normalscum who are the type to watch TV and make it their primary interest. Absolutely no fucking sympathy for you faggots. At least gingernigger did something right by letting that board become overrun with the worst of your lot.
>>
>>589441
All of moot's drive to get people to 4chan was under the umbrella of only bringing in the kind of people who you would want to see here. People who were members of other online communities. Not the kind of people we now call normalfags.
>>
>>588966
Trolls get no satisfaction from each other. They instinctively know when the person replying is one of their own.
>>
>>588966
The problem with trolls was always the people who replied to them, not the trolls themselves.
>>
>>589354
But this has been a thing for a long time. I remember fights on my home board (/tg/) over what was and was not allowed or agreed apon by. Grumpy and vocal minority about what was related to the board or not since i first came on this site around /tg/s creation
