Animation in the US is almost entirely for children, and people are strongly conditioned to think (to the point of brainwashing) that's all animation can or should be, with the exception of sitcoms. Normalfags are very neurotic about age appropriate behavior, and think they have to police other people. Doing so probably makes them feel more secure and grown up.
There's also other factors like anti-Japanese sentiment, bitterness and jealousy over anime beating the US at its own game, reliance on stereotypes and ignorance of what anime is like, cultural differences, and whatever else.
Anime really is to normalfags what kryptonite is to Superman.
