I try to encourage cross-boarders and I actually post nice things without emoticons. Just wanna bring back the old mentality of this site.

Doing my part for the community :^)
>>
I'm trying to stop mindlessly clicking into threads I know will anger me, instead going in threads that I think I'll enjoy.

I've started to realize that too often I'll continue to read shit even while it's pissing me off. And in turn then I go be a bitter asshole to others.
>>
>>60103
Holy shit this. I think a lot of people on here want to get pissed off.
>>
I try to take it easy a lot more than I have been before.
>>
>>60103
Look at pretty much every other website that's grown in the last few years. This is what the Internet is converging to. You're right to fight it.
>>
>>58696
I'm trying to not take things so seriously now. If somebody is blatantly trying to aggravate me, I'll just respond in a joking manner or just not respond at all. Getting into shit-flinging contests on 4chan is a nightmare.
>>
>>60195
Maybe we, as a site, can be the first to get out of that instigation? I mean, if we were one of the sites that started it, it's only fitting,
>>
>>60196
Please tell me you don't use emoticons when you do respond.
>>
>>60213

4chan is fueled by it. Where many sites have fizzled out and died, 4chan has so much variety that some people doing that are easily weighed out against the ones who aren't. I don't think shitflinging or fights on 4chan are inherently bad. It's part of the variety in this carnival on the net.
>>
>>60218
No. I have a decent reaction image folder.
>>
I really really like moot but I'm not on board with the whole crossboarding idea yet.

It's like we would be openly accepting change to one's board because the new people can't seem to get with the program on how the board works.

So I'll say, I promote cross-lurking.

Unless you're going to /b/ for your first time, you need to lurk a shitton. Just because you understand how an imageboard works, doesn't mean you know how each board does.
>>
>>60232
My take on what moot was saying on crossboarding is that lurk moar is still a thing regardless.
>>
I am posting nice things and not participating in the angry argumentative threads. Moot wanted us to have a positive outlook on life, and to love each other.
>>
>>60240
Though he and rapeape both said that we shouldn't get mad at others for being from other boards.

The thing is, if a board can tell you're not from that board, are you not lurking moar?
>>
>>60246
If you can tell someone's from another board (or a crossboarder in other words) it means they need to lurk moar
>>
>>60242
>Moot wanted us to have a positive outlook on life, and to love each other
That would be a hugbox.

He said to enjoy ourselves without the expense of enjoyment of others.
We can still disagree with one another.

Just because he doesn't have time to be angry on the internet doesn't mean the other million people don't.

I enjoy arguments, I sometimes like to be angry or learn, as well as teach, from other users.

>>60252
So we're on the same page?
>>
>>60232
>>60240
I think moot was concerned about the small circlejerk communities that are hostile to outsiders mostly. Generals, /a/, etc are really bad for this, and in the end it's a very self destructive ideology.

You can't shut out everyone and become super insular, you will just slowly die, like all these small imageboards you see.
>>
Personally, I'm not instigating conflict, and when confronted I ignore the attack. I've been giving my honest thoughts on things, such as my opinion on what should become of this board and what we as a community should do to turn this dark time into a time of revolution. I am not pushing for things like manners and maturity on any board but /qa/, as I feel this board represents us coming together not as seperate boards but as one big community. I'm also replying with my honest feelings and emotions. If someone says something nice but corny instead of calling them a fag I reply with a nice tone.
>>
I just don't want to have to act like my personality changes from board to board. I wanna embrace board topics, but still be myself.

Like /mu/. I can't post about stuff there because I'd get shit on 100x over for the music I like.

Like /a/. Can't post on there because I like anime they hate.

Like /tv/. Can't post there because I like capeshit and Pacific Rim.

Like /b/. I don't have any porn to dump.

Etc.
>>
>>60268
Amen.
>>
>>60260
I think the hostility should be reserved for complete outsiders, I.E nonchan posters/newfags. We should be less hostile to our own boards, but we should still be hostile toward other sites. Not obsessively hostile, but just a more LURK SOME MORE OR GET OUT hostility.
>>
>>60260
>/a/, etc are really bad for this, and in the end it's a very self destructive ideology.
>moot calls /a/ the best board on 4chan
Wut.

/a/ is the 3rd(or 4th) largest board on 4chan, getting 857,000 unique IPs a month.
We're far from it.
Just because we have plenty of implicit rules, and hostility toward outsiders doesn't mean we're a bad board.
It means, lurk moar, see how we do this, once you can post like this, join us toward being bitter angry manchildren.

In a sense, it's almost a hivemind, but one that thrives and keeps out people who are trying to change the board into "a friendly place for others to come and ask for recommendations on our favorite animes!"

There are plenty of communities that can be friendly and helpful, don't make /a/ another one.
>>
>>60268
>I'd get shit on 100x over for the music I like.
Go somewhere else or start listening and hopefully liking their music.

>Like /a/. Can't post on there because I like anime they hate.
Go somewhere else or start liking the anime /a/ likes.

>Like /tv/. Can't post there because I like capeshit and Pacific Rim.
Go somewhere else or get better tastes.

>Like /b/. I don't have any porn to dump.
Unneeded.

This all seems like problems that can be changed by lurking and adapting to the board or going somewhere else.

Your personality should change from board to board. That means you know how to cross-board effectively. These are different communities, you don't go to your grandma's house talking and acting like you would going over your friends house.
>>
>>60288
>start liking what the boards like
This is the elitism I'm talking about. If I wanna dicuss the anime I like, why can't I do it on /a/ without getting shat on? I'm sure there are plenty of anons that would go to /a/ if they could discuss the anime that they enjoyed.
>>
>>60271
>We should be less hostile to our own boards, but we should still be hostile toward other sites
Where do you think newfags come from? The gateway boards.
>>
>>60271
I agree with this. Nonchan posters need to lurk more or fuck off. However, interboard hostility is pretty silly. We're all 4channers.
>>
>>60302
I'm just going to go ahead and say, newfags suck but they're necessary to the functioning of the site. Older users leave, they grow up, they fuck off eventually. New people keep the site stable and alive. If they are introduced to the site through gateway boards that's not a bad thing.

We were all newfags at one point.
>>
>>60103
If you're from /v/ you need to bring back the anger. I can't remember the exact time but /v/ really went down once it went from rage to >tfw no gf
>>
>>60300
>why can't I do it on /a/ without getting shat on?
Because that's not the environment for that.
/a/ talks about certain things.
If you came in talking about Hetalia, go ahead. But then you get mad because no one wants to talk about Hetalia? Or is it because on top of no one talking about the show, they tell you that you have shit taste and leave?

It's like going to a magic the gathering tournament and wanting to play YuGiOh. Same shit would happen.

It's not elitism, it's just you're trying to establish something you want to talk about with a crowd that doesn't want to talk about it.

>I'm sure there are plenty of anons that would go to /a/ if they could discuss the anime that they enjoyed.
And that destroys the board's quality. Because those threads happen more frequently while other outsiders want to discuss it. Suddenly, we have a general, we have ourselves a circlejerk.

That is why you get shat on. This is what we call self-moderation.

You are more than welcome to come over to /a/ and discuss (insert title here) but it's not /a/'s fault for what they say about the series and not wanting to discuss something they don't like.

Instead, lurk, and watch what /a/ likes, because you'll like what we watch (though please watch at least 10 series before posting).
/a/ is not here for you entertainment, you are here to be entertained by /a/.
>>
>>60335
No, what I'm saying is, why shit on it? Just let the thread die, and if someone starts spamming threads about something for attention, report them.

I just want to understand everyone's desire to push their own tastes and agendas on to others, you know? I understand what you're saying, and I'm sure the quality of discussion for /a/'s anime is great, but I'm just asking for the opportunity to widen the scope a little.
>>
>>60317
Newfags are necessary when they are brought up correctly and understand their place of lurking.

Older users would leave far less if newfags weren't being newfags, and we all know it.

>New people keep the site stable and alive.
We honestly could benefit from making a small hockey stick in population.

>We were all newfags at one point.
And we were awful when we started (I know I was). But did we get better by people being nice to us?
>>
>>60321
I'm mainly from /co/ and /vp/.

Also I didn't know that /v/ has become >tfw no gf. Are they going the way of /r9k/?
>>
>>60357
It's kinda just depression and people complaining that they don't know how to get back into playing games anymore, so everyone just kinda argues and shitposts for the sake of arguing and shitposting.
>>
>>60351
>why shit on it?
Self-moderation

Make, what clearly is a newfag (to the board) feel unwelcome.

Take your lumps. You'll either leave or catch on to how we do things around here.

>agendas
There are no agendas. We only want to spread animu we find to be enjoyable because it helps you.

>asking for the opportunity to widen the scope a little.
Out of curiosity.
Please tell me what you watch and why /a/ doesn't want it on /a/.

We don't widen the scope for entry-level garbage as it's shitty and taints our board. As well as brings in more than a handful of users that essentially can effect and change our board.
>>
>>60351
For the good anime that gets shat on, their threads have often been discussed to death over the years, devolving into waifu wars or brainless discussion.

Nothing personal,You're just late to the party, that's that. Search the archives at archive.moe.
>>
>>60368
>and why /a/ doesn't want it on /a/.
and I'll tell you why*
>>
I constantly made like twenty shitposting threads under the Hola VPN per day. I discovered it and went wild with the newfound power, like I discovered I was immortal and made of steel so the police couldn't gun me down.

This is my last post under Hola. In the past, I always believed that I should be the exemplary poster. After trying to be a good poster, I got swept over by the shitposts, so I just started shitposting. I'm going to try to go back to that.
>>
>>60368
Meh, I watch Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill every now and then, and I'm a bit of a DB fan. (All entry-level shit, I know)

I was just mentioning /a/ as an example. Other boards are like that as well, and for some reason /a/ gets all the flak.

None of us like change. It's why we're still here after all this time. But it just seems that everyone's become more hostile over time. In /a/'s case, they've had to become hostile, exiling "entry-level anime", because anime has become more mainstream. /v/ never did that kind of thing, because everything's entry-level in video games (Though they do shit on Call of Duty pretty much collectively).

Is it wrong of me to want to post a metal thread on the music board? Is it wrong of me to want to post about the latest Spiderman movie on /tv/?

I realize that I'm just kinda rambling at this point, so if I've come off pushy, I didn't mean it.

By the way, why are Kill la Kill threads okay on /a/? Isn't that entry-level?

>TTGL
2007 called. It's over with.

>KLK
Discussed sparingly upon completion.

But that's most series.
Once it's done, it's time to move on to the new season. You can only talk about a show so much and when you dissected an episode weekly for 11-26 weeks.
They'll bring it just far less than when it was airing.

>/a/ gets all the flak
We're the best
I love saying that.
, people like to hate us.

>exiling "entry-level anime"
Don't air-quote it. It's entry level because it targets a major audience in the west or globally. In order to target the biggest audience (usually that of children, teens and general anime watching adults), it has to be something that anyone can pick up (there's the entry-level).

>because anime has become more mainstream
More of a reason to be hostile.

>/v/ never did that kind of thing
Because /v/ is dead. It's leddit, it's so leddit it's pathetic.
And to add on, there is far more non-gaming talk that it would be a god-send if they actually talked about a game. (Seriously, they had to split /v/ up and had to make them this fucking chart and sticky it. /v/ is not an example to be used)

>Is it wrong of me to
No, but if they don't want to discuss it and find it threatening to their board is it wrong to lash out at it?
Discuss something else or find a place that wants to discuss it.

>KLK
>okay
Yes, but wait for a thread. It's sparingly because /a/ likes Trigger.

/a/ is mostly current-airing stuff.
And don't stream or buy.

Producers, yes. The studio just wants to make even to make more future series and have people like their stuff.
But the studios rarely care about western money. So they don't necessarily want it to be popular over here.

Meh, I've heard this reasoning before. I'm not against men's rights movements. I'm not against any movement that wants to change society for the best. Too bad 3rd wave feminism didn't get the memo. I blame the American radfems. There's still lots of feminists who aren't insane hatred-spewing machines.

I think the Internet has actually made this sort of shot worse, because now any fucking deluded idiot can post whatever the fuck he/she wants and make it a "movement" or believe it's something significant. Before, the crazies were less resourceful. Now any idiot can open a Tumblr/Facebook/whatever account.

>>
>>60587
No. I see irrational hatred everywhere, from feminists supposedly striving for equality but actually sabotaging it, to guys hating women but also wanting to date them... I just see a lot of people looking for excuses to be angry. And the Internet gives them an outlet for it. I mean, it's much easier to start a thread out of hating something than appreciating it. Maybe it's always been this way though, and people are just more prone to criticizing and shitting on something than discussing it.
>>
>>60621

See: all of human history.
>>
>>60103
So many boards suffer from this.

I want people to at least try and appreciate the thing their board is about, remember what made them like it in the first place and look for more they can like, but many are turning into the opposite of that or have turned already. If we forget how to enjoy something and spend all our time angry, we'll eventually either stop wanting to come here at all or we'll become unable to function anywhere else. Maybe both.

I know they say 4chan is a place for that, but is that all it should be? We could try to improve the situation rather than just going on about how bad it is forever. It can't hurt us to try to be happier here.

>>58696
I try to post threads that have novel observations of a boards meta context for the purposes of creating discussion and original content.

When someone has a specific question about a board I look through the catalogue and point them in the direction of a relevant thread.

Whenever I find myself in an argument 4chan I write down how the argument started so I don't forget what I was arguing about. At that point I try to use outside sources to prove my point and refute their point respectfully. If I realize that I have been beaten I step down and post a small apology for being wrong in the first place.

If I ever feel like I'm taking 4chan to seriously I take a small break to go funpost on [s4s]. That way I won't fun up another board by accident.

I always read the sticky.

I always read any accompanying wikis.

I always check the catalogue.

I sometimes use my mediocre photoshop skills to help Anon's when they make requests. I'm not very good, but with a little effort I find that I can generally accomplish what they were asking for.

Sometimes when I notice a post I'm making is skirting Poe's Law I add in a bit of extra ridiculous context to drive the point home that my post is satirical. Otherwise I comply with the premise of Poe's Law and add a smiley face to the end of it :^)

If someone calls me out for being autistic or stupid, I generally agree with them. I quickly mention that I'm probably bored at that particular moment and move on.
