Why are traps/futa/trannies/etc so prominent on 4chan both in content and in userbase?
At this point I would honestly guess there are more MtF on 4chan than actual females.

You're probably right, although you need to include traps and not just the hormone-taking trannies.
There have been many discussions about this on various boards and the general consensus has been that it's a combination of a submissive personality - common on imageboards (also the popularity of femdom) - and life just generally being easier for women when it comes to expectations and compassion.
