It's a fallacy. Whatever you're calling out is bad and/or wrong entirely because "it's 2016" and whatever it is that you're opposed to is outdated and obsolete for self evident reasons.

The fact that it's 2016 means there are certain expectations.
It's abhorrent that:

It's amazing that, in spite of our technological advancements, that people as a whole are still so insular and vicious. Just think about what we have: The modern smartphone is something that could have only been seen in science fiction tv shows in the '70s. The internet is something that allows us to communicate with anyone all over world. In spite of this, people have grown even more antagonistic.
