Can mods just make cyclical stickies for big game releases on /v/?
Like, for Overwatch for example, just make one general thread and sticky it to prevent all the duplicate Overwatch threads in the catalog
They'd stay up just for a day or two until the "hype" dies down, as it always does with flavor of the month casualfests
/tv/ did it for Star Wars and GoT too.
There is a general dedicated to Overwatch already, anon.

And yet /v/ is full of Overwatch threads anyway.
It's about keeping the /v/ clean, not /vg/.

I agree with this. It gets dangerously close to being "generals", but it really did keep /v/ clean and able to be posted in when generals existed anyway. (until /v/ got too big, of course, but still.)
Alternatively, could mods actually enforce a "Check the catalog!" rule like /soc/ has? No more than one thread per topic at a time.

The mods are fine with the way it is.
If they make it too obvious they are paid off it will cause the children to think, and as a result, revolt.
Nintendo threads are the exception because kids love Nintendo too much to care
