There are two ways to deviate from normal, to be exceptionally great or exceptionally terrible. "Normalfag" is a word used by the exceptionally terrible to associate themselves with the exceptionally great. At least "riajuu" is honest.

If you go with the idea that normalfag = normal+fag then sure.

But a lot of people like to take a different definition of normalfag which I think can be even more useful than リア充 in some ways.
There's probably no 1 perfect definition, since it's really just a slang word that evolved over time, but the funny thing is I've never seen people argue over this definition, everyone just seems to accept it, where "normalfag" is defined as "someone who strives for social success".

Especially if we just consider that definition in an online context only and not necessarily how people approach their life in the real world, then that's a pretty accurate account of how "normalfag" is mostly used on 4chan.

>/r9k/

Hahahaha. /r9k/ is where teenagers blog about relationships and jobs or school. They are obsessed with real life and strive to be as normal as possible.
Their obsession with traditional success is what makes them the most normal people on these boards.
>>
>>540970
Not him but I never understood why people get legitimately annoyed with them.
I agree with what you've said mostly, but they still aren't exactly "normal". I just think they're still young enough where they haven't become dead inside yet. I would wager most are still in highschool where it's hard to really get a grip on what the real world is like.

They're basically the larval form of your average 4chan shut-in who doesn't even care about getting a gf or friends anymore. For many people it just takes a lot of pain and failure to get there.

Have you ever liked something, and then somebody else didn't like it, and you felt like the reason they didn't like it was because they didn't understand it, so you tried to explain, but they just wouldn't listen, and kept repeating tired points that you've already refuted as if they're new ideas, because you are just talking past each other?

That's /r9k/.

It's amazing how well it fits to interpret "normie"/"normalfag" as white and "robot" as black. Especially given the etymology of the latter.

Why do I get annoyed by them?
Because they bring real life shit into threads and boards where it is not wanted. They like to rail against "normies", although some are now using normalfag - incorrectly of course - completely unaware that only people with such spirited dramatics about the real world are normal themselves.
They talk about not being invited to parties or a discussion they had on facebook, when the thread or board they're posting in has nothing to do with either of those.
If they weren't so normal and functional they could actually better blend into the boards instead of making posts about themselves as if I have a duty to care.

>Let's have a A thread
>A is good, but B is blah blah
>I think A is worse than C
>fucking normies in my reddit group said A was awful and blog blog blog

Is there anything wrong with them talking about that stuff on their own board?

As for leaking, how do you know those are actually /r9k/ users? Because they use a frog image?

This is one of the things I fucking hate about 4chan as a whole these days. Images and memes get associated with a particular group.
I would wager that most of that sort of thing isn't cross boarders at all, they're just regular users of your own board who feel like talking about that sort of thing.

I mean, the meme behind those images is literally to post them along with "feels". So you have people on your own board who wanted to bring up their "feels" and so which image do you think they're going to post? The one that was designed for it.
Then you go on thinking they're just an /r9k/ user because nobody from your own board would ever want talk about such things right?

>This is one of the things I fucking hate about 4chan as a whole these days. Images and memes get associated with a particular group.
/r9k/ tried to make Pepe part of their identity and threw an enormous hissyfit when it started spreading to Reddit.
>>
>>543779
Ok sure, but do you know how many people on 4chan aren't aware of that sort of thing?

There's tons of people that don't follow drama crap like that. They just see a meme like that and post it. Why did everyone assume it was nothing but /r9k/fags doing it on every board?

It's the same with the anti-anime fags we have now:
There's tons of people that don't follow that drama, they come to 4chan and see reaction images all over the place, thinks it's funny or cute, see that anime has some great reaction images and they save them and repost them.

I wonder if it's really all the social media babies who do this. They're so used to being able to pin blame on certain identifiable people that they're out of their element on an anonymous community, so they have to try and see patterns and groups to blame for things that happen where often none exists.
>>
>>543797
That happens. On the saner boards (i.e. not /a/) it usually gets ignored. There are also people who post frogs accompanied by greentext blogs, whining about women, and general self-pity. For example:
https://warosu.org/lit/thread/S8089456
https://warosu.org/sci/thread/S8094671
>>
>>543814
But my whole point is you don't know if those people ever even browse /r9k/ at all.

Those could just be normal /lit/ or /sci/ users.

That brings me to another point, though, and that is that is that /r9k/ is not "their" board and never was.
I still go there from time to time to see if there's any good discussion that doesn't belong on a hobbyist board (and there is sometimes, surprisingly enough) but its reputation keeps people away from it.
Here is a pic I just took from the catalog. There could be some decent discussion in these threads for those interested in their subjects, but some anons can't get past the shitposting rants that have become emblematic of the place. Obviously some of the threads are blatant trolling, but that's to be expected.
>>
>>543816
All I'm saying though is people could be spending more time calling anons out for just acting like faggots rather than playing some dumb game of implying their from some other cancerous place.

Mostly because there's about a 50% chance you're completely wrong about what boards they browse in the first place.
Honestly, who hasn't been told to fuck off back to some board you never use?
I don't know if what I was trying to say here >>543797 was so clear, but I was trying to say that not everyone who posts anime even watches anime. Just like not everyone who posts frog images ever uses /r9k/.
Same can be said about pretty much every topic or meme people try to isolate to a single group. It just doesn't work that way.
>>
>>543815
They would have to be coincidentally emulating multiple behaviors common on /r9k/.

>>543816
>That brings me to another point, though, and that is that is that /r9k/ is not "their" board and never was.
On this you are right.

>I still go there from time to time to see if there's any good discussion that doesn't belong on a hobbyist board (and there is sometimes, surprisingly enough) but its reputation keeps people away from it.
It's not just its reputation but also the fact that 4chan now has so many topical boards that there's little need to venture on /r9k/. It wasn't a coincidence that /r9k/ took a steep turn for the worse after /lit/ and /sci/ were created.

And those threads look pretty awful to me:
>good looking guys never have social anxiety
>i proposed to my waifu
>my dad died
self-pity
>rejected by a cute nerdy girl because she's a SJW
self-pity / misogyny
>what's your ideal girlfriend like
>do you like female musicians
>5'6" is the perfect height for a girl
will be full of self-pity and/or misogyny because it's /r9k/
>i just want to marry and have kids with a guy
given it's on /r9k/, a probable attention whore troll
>itt: overrated shit
deliberately ambiguous whether it's the headphones or the girl
>how do I get better at manipulating people?
crap thread from kid who thinks he's bateman/dexter, how have you not seen this 1000 times before?
>milo, normies, reeee
enough said
>tfw no gf feels about my gf
shitty bait unless this is some reference I'm missing
>>
>>543828
Yeah, many of the threads are probably shit but they could be interesting if it didn't contain rants and spiels from angsty anons. I didn't enter the threads myself so I'm not going to judge them.
