I did a search of 4chan's boards (checking for board 404s from /a/ to /zzzzz/).
It returned this
http://pastebin.com/rshbGytW
So we definitely aren't having any new boards popping up anytime soon.
Thanks for reading!

So you're saying if there was a mysterious board called /xxxx/ then your search would have found it?
>>528271
yes
like /film/, when it was being built
it's very simple code, just creates a server that checks boards.4chan.org/xxxx, grabs the title, and puts it in a file
took a long time actually, even with like 30 checks a second

Shame on you for wasting bandwidth.
I'm not a dev but seems it like if Hiro wanted to make a board called /bb/ or /a2/ or something tomorrow then it wouldn't take but at most an hour or so to add a new entry. I think he can do these things 'on the fly' so to speak.

>/j/ and /test/
those exist on sys.4chan.org and/or they don't supply headers when you open them
also I didn't do non-alphabetical characters because I didn't think there are any boards which use those yet
>>528281
Hiro is far too stupid to be able to do it in an hour anon don't overestimate him.

/3/, [s4s], /r9k/

>those exist on sys.4chan.org and/or they don't supply headers when you open them
They give you a 302 instead of a 404, so you should be able to detect them in a scan done properly.
What about /aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/ ?
Also, it should go a lot faster if you're doing HEAD requests instead of downloading the 404 page every time.
>>528314
well it doesn't technically download a 404 page at all, it just fails outright
>>528275
there already is a .json file available to anyone that list every board, includding hidden ones such as /film/ before (and after) mods opened it to the public.
