It is extremely obvious /v/'s problem is simply its massive traffic compared to literally every other board on the site. It makes it unable to be well moderated, it makes it impossible for users to relevantly self moderate, it's directly related to its size. That's why /v/ also has the most spin off boards.
It's impossible to discuss anything beyond whatever 3 or so topics are most relevant because of how quickly the board moves and threads fall off, there's no space for smaller discussion and the board's speed is too fast relative to its size. The board needs a bigger catalog.

I mostly agree with you. Its video game themed /b/ at this point. But a larger catalog isn't going to fix anything because, in my opinion, its just too far gone

I wonder if it would be at all effective to make more than one /v/ (not new offshoots like /vg/, literally additional /v/s).
Make /v/, /v2/, and /v3/, increase the post timer, and make the three boards have a shared post and thread timer. You've now artificially slowed down and reduced /v/'s traffic dramatically without actually reducing the userbase.

A few more /vp/s for other big franchises.
/NeoV/ for new releases. It'd be the worst one.
Then again, I don't use /v/. It's shit.
