So it's been obvious for some time that there's no acceptable way to show laughter on 4chan. I guess I just felt like making a thread about it today to see if I'm the only one who cares/notices.
Obviously I can't say "haha", you can't say "lol" or its derivatives anymore without someone calling you a newfag or telling you to get lost, "kek" is probably the closest thing we have now but it's pretty lame because you know the only reason someone resorts to saying it is because there's nothing else to use, and 50% of the time someone will still get on your case for using it.
Why is 4chan so uptight? Maybe I'll just start doing it the way they do on japanese boards. ww
I usually use the [s4s] variants like 'geg', 'holy fef', or 'this is a wicked good post and I'm proud of you.'

>Obviously I can't say "haha"
What? Why not? That is actually what I personally like to say when I'm not being ironic. It comes off as genuine and you don't have to use any netspeak. Of course it depends on context, but I haven't run into any problems. I've also enjoyed mild success with "Heh, nice."

the only acceptable is 'LEEE MY SIDES!!!!!!!!!!!'
Lurk more.

A picture is worth over 9000 words.

Where is this?
Lol Kek is actually cringey af newfag tier secret club shit

Did you forget the part where you're on an image board and you can visually portray laughter for everyone?

>being this fucking stupid
Wow
>>475437
>what are images
>HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>475437
You can express the entire range of human emotion through images. Pic related.
I just say lol. I don't care if little faggots who got here in 2012 have cultural cringe issues about it
lol internet

That's because autists have no sense of humour and the autists have been the majority on the site since 2007.

Typical fucking spergs: needing to present rehearsed presentations of other people in order to attempt to express emotion.
Use your words you braindead fucks. Humour is an individual response to something, not human_reactionface_ithinkthisiswhatexperiencinghumourlookslike_359.jpg

Yeah really, I find spergs like reaction images because they are unsure if their tone will be picked up by others if they just use words
not using XD to trigger autists
I have resolved to bring back the lol.
Now that I think about it, it's always the people who are more in touch with the outside world that are the ones telling us to change.
I mean, I just sit here in my little 4chan castle and every so often scouts come back telling me people in the land of so-and-so have started abusing X, and so we should stop using X.
and like a fucking idiot I always listen to them, but now I'm starting to realize that they wouldn't have been saying that in the first place if they were like me and didn't even get involved outside 4chan.
If they're interacting with "the cancer" enough to figure out their patterns of discussion, then they probably are themselves the cancer.
So fuck 'em all.
lol

TL:DR lol

They make a good point though. One thing you can do on 4chan that you can't do anywhere else is use images to express your emotion. So, if you REALLY feel so insecure about saying "lol" or "haha" you can just post a picture of a laughing person and people will understand that you legitimately find their post humorous and that you aren't just being facetious.

>Humour is an individual response to something
What's so individual about a three-letter meme acronym? "lel", "lol", and "kek" aren't even real words...

It's called "the English language".

The reaction image is pretty standard.
(Don't just post a reaction image, though.)

It's better than typing a substitute for genuine spontaneous human reaction. Do you have autism that you type "lol" instinctively or even go as far as to actually say it?
